Country music has a long history that began in the 1920's with the likes of Vernon Dalhart and Jimmie Rodgers. After the Great Depression, a second generation of country musicians were born, which inevitably developed subgenres such as rockabilly, blue grass, and honkytonk. Eventually country music crossed over with nearly every other genre including rock, pop and even hip hop, making it truly mainstream and widely accepted and supported in North American cultures. Through this, country artists have seen incredible success and are right up there with the bestselling artists of any genre.

5. Alabama
Coming in at number 5, Alabama was founded in 1969 and actually consisted of three cousins; Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook. They saw the bulk of their success in the 1980's and remain one of the world's best selling bands of all time, having sold 75 million records worldwide.
4. Kenny Rogers
Born in Houston, Texas in 1938 Rogers is an American singer, songwriter, musician, actor and record producer. He began his music career in the late 50's but found most of his success when he embarked on a solo career in the mid 1970's. A country music Hall of Famer his most popular song is 'The Gambler" but his biggest commercial success was a duet with another country music superstar, Dolly Parton. "Islands in the Stream" was Roger's best-selling single.
3. George Strait
Arguably the GOAT for some, Strait started his career in the 80's and is considered to have returned the country music genre to its roots. He has 72.8 million in certified sales which put him at towards the top of the list for the most successful recording artists in music history.
2. Shania Twain
This Canadian songbird is the only female on the list thanks to her 77.4 million in global sales. She sold over 100 million records and is the best-selling female country artist of all time. In 2004, Twain entered into a hiatus to deal with some health problems which affected the strength of her singing voice but after rehabilitation and determination, she started touring and also performing in Vegas in 2019.
1. Garth Brooks
With certified sales of over 156 million, Brooks stands with the best selling artists of all time for any genre. He is the only artist in history to have released seven albums that achieved diamond status in the United States. His list of awards and honors is a mile long and includes being in the Country Music Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame.
