Top 5 Iconic Music Videos

MTV launched in 1981, airing the first ever official music video, "Video Killed The Radio Star" and paved the way for decades of visual entertainment in the music industry. By the mid 1980's music videos played an integral role in both development and marketing for an artists career and 24-hour-a-day television programming came to fruition. Some of the greatest recording artists of all time owe their success to carefully created and delivered videos that captured an audience for their music.

There are hundreds of videos that could be considered iconic but we're going to highlight what we consider to the a Fab 5! We would love to hear what YOU consider to be some of the most memorable music videos. Comment below and let us know!

Thriller - Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson's Thriller is arguably one of the greatest music videos of all time. It has a creative plot line, incredible costumes, make up and special effects, killer dance moves (literally) and an amazing backing track! It combines a love story with a classic slasher film and is cinematic gold!

Take On Me - A-Ha

Creativity sored to new heights when A-ha released the second (yes, second) video for their hit song 'Take On Me'. Another love story classic but this time it was illustrated in pencil-sketch animation! They tempted fate by pushing the boundaries and it paid off by delivering unforgettable imagery.

Nothing Compares 2 You - Sinead O'Connor

There's a lot to be said for 'less is more'. With 90% of the video being all black and nothing but a close-up of O'Connor's' expressive face - music lovers will forever remember this emotional video as both enthralling and captivating. She peeled back the layers and exposed genuine vulnerability which was both appreciated and admired.

Like A Prayer - Madonna

Forever testing the limits, Madonna bravely examined sex, race and religion in a cinematically beautiful story of a woman trying to seek justice against all odds. On one hand she was hailed for the stunning symbolic imagery and on the other, she was highly criticized for encroaching on highly controversial subject matters. Regardless of which side of the coin the audience landed on, this video went down in history as one of the most momentous of all time.

Tell Me I Was Dreaming - Travis Tritt

The second video of Tritt's heart-warming trilogy was one of the most devastatingly beautiful music videos of the era. The story picks up after wounded war veteran finally coms to terms with his physical limitations and walks/wheels back into the arms of the love of his life. The audience is soon met with her tragic death and Tritt falls apart on screen. Between the haunting music and impressive acting, this is one of those videos that will grip on heart strings for all eternity.

Growing up in the 90's, I spent many hours glued to the television watching these videos and a ton of other equally memorable masterpieces. There was something magical in simultaneously hearing and seeing a song for the first time! Share your favs below and let's take a walk down memory lane together!
