Music Is Where It All Began!
It's a strange sensation when you turn on the television and see your favorite singer on the screen. You wait with bated breath to see if they have actual acting ability or if they landed the role simply due to their stardom in the music biz. There have been a ton of performers who made the leap to silver screen but probably shouldn't have. We're going to take a look at a few and we want YOU to weigh in if you think they made the right move!
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga had a few stints on the big screen but her biggest claim to fame was playing opposite of Bradley Cooper in 'A Star Is Born'. She played an up and coming musician who got tangled up in a messy love affair with a successful but alcoholic rock star. She had a solid performance but did her vocals carry her or did she hold her own in the acting department? Share your thoughts below!
Jennifer Hudson'
Hudson, a 7th place finisher on the mega hit talent show "American Idol', actually won an Oscar for her portrayal of Effie in 2006's Dreamgirls. Her acting career didn't stop there though as she was selected by the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin, to lead the biopic "Respect" released in 2021. It's hard to imagine someone would be awarded an Oscar without being super talented but what do YOU think?
Justin Timberlake
Timberlake began his career in the entertainment business on the children's television series "The Micky Mouse Club", so it could be argued he had a knack for the screen from an early age. However, he found his true success as a bandmate for 'N Sync and gained super stardom for his voice and signature dance moves. He gave it another whirl in the acting world and earned two Emmys for his guest work on Saturday Night Live but we're still on the fence if we prefer him in our ears or on our tv sets. Mandy Moore
Moore broke into the music scene in 1999, along side the likes of Brittney Spears and Christina Aguilera, when it was cool to be a pop princess. She very quickly made the leap to Film, appearing in movies such as "The Princess Diaries" and "A Walk To Remember". One of her biggest acting successes was the smash hit tv show "This Is Us" but she was still a songbird at heart because in 2020 she released her seventh studio album. We're on the fence where we think she should focus and can't wait to hear where you think she belongs. Screen, Radio or Both?
Cher
Cher is an absolute icon, dominating the music scene since the mid-1960's. She complimented a stunning music career with a long list of acting credits and even has 'Broadway Performer' on her resume. Some of her notable acting mentions are "Moonstruck", "Mermaids" and "Mask" which she won a Best Actress award for at Cannes Film Festival. It's interesting to wonder if she slowed down on music and put more focus on acting - would her career be totally different? Share your thoughts below!
