Every day and every year - history is being made in the wonderful world of music. This installment will take a look back at some interesting tidbits from music history that occurred on the 9th of January!

1963 - Charlie Watts ...

Drummer, Charlie Watts left his job as a graphic designer and joined The Rolling Stones. Sounds like a pretty solid career move!

1973 - Mick Jagger ...

The Rolling Stones had to cancel a tour in Japan due to front liner, Mick Jagger, being denied a Japanese via due to a 1969 drug conviction.

1976 - Queen ...

'Bohemian Rhapsody' hits Number 1 on the UK singles chart. It remained at the top for nine weeks and sold more than one million copies by the end of the month. It went on to be the UK's third best selling single of all time.

1988 - Whitney Houston ...

The incredibly talented Whitney Houston achieved her six consecutive Number One hit in the USA with 'So Emotional"!

1997 - David Bowie ...

David Bowie, born January 8 1947, performed his 50th birthday bash, a day after the big day, at Madison Square Garden! He had a bunch of special guests and all proceeds from the concert went to the Save The Children fund.

2002 - David McWilliams ...

Irish Singer and songwriter, David McWilliams, passed away from a heart attack at his home at the age of 56.

2003 - Elvis Presley ...

A grand piano, once property belonging to the King of Rock N Roll, Elvis Presley, sold for $685,000 to the chairman of the Blue Moon Group, Michael Muzio.

2014 - Rolling Stone Magazine ...

Rolling Stone magazine published the result of their readers pole: The 10 Greatest Double Albums of All Time. The top 5 were: 5. Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti - Bruce Springsteen - The River, 3. The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street 2. Pink Floyd - The Wall, and number one was The Beatles - The White Album.

2015 - Darren Partington ...

Partington, a member of seminal British acid house group 808 State, was thrown in the slammer for 18 months for dealing heroin and cocaine.

2016 - Lemmy ...

Lemmy, front man for Motorhead was laid to rest during his funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.. Stars such as a Dave Grohl, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo paid tribute and spoke at the service.
