Guess The Song From The Lyrics - 70s Edition cover

Grab your bell bottoms and flower crowns and let’s take a trip back to the 70s with this music test. Think you know your 70s tunes? Let’s see if you can guess all of these groovy tracks JUST from a few key lyrics and hints. The answers are at the bottom, no cheating allowed!

Song One

Level: Easy

We’re starting off EASY with this mid-seventies hit. It’s rumoured that even Queen Elizabeth was a fan - supposedly stating: “I always try to dance when this song comes on because I am the queen and I like to dance”!

“You're a teaser, you turn 'em on Leave 'em burning and then you're gone Looking out for another Anyone will do You're in the mood for a dance And when you get the chance”

Song Two

Level: Easy

Another easy one to get you warmed up for the REAL challenge; written for a movie, and well-known as being one of this artist’s signature songs.

“Well now, I get low and I get high And if I can't get either, I really try Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes I'm a dancin' man and I just can't lose You know it's alright, it's okay I'll live to see another day.”

Song Three

Level: Medium

We’re shifting genres a little bit here AND showing you less lyrics with a band that became wildly popular in the 70s. When you think rockstar, who do you think of?

“Half my life's in books, written pages Live and learn from fools and from sages You know it's true, oh.”

Song Four

Level: Medium

This song was this artist’s third stand-alone single, after two previous tracks; both in the 70s. In 1977, this artist won the ‘Best Male Vocalist’ American Music Award.

“So don't misunderstand me You put the light in my life Oh, you put the spark to the flame.”

Song Five

Level: Hard

This song emerged at the very beginning of the 70s and was written for an animated TV special that never aired. That’s all you get for this one!

“Jeremiah was a bullfrog Was a good friend of mine I never understood a single word he said But I helped him a-drink his wine.”

Song Six

Level: Hard

Another song from the early 70s, this one is widely considered to be one of the first and earliest disco songs. Do you know it?

“Up to now we sailed through every storm And I've always had your tender lips to keep me warm Oh, I need to have the strength that flows from you Don't let me drift away my dear, when love can see me through.”

That’s all we have for you today; but if you had fun participating in this music test, there will be many more coming your way here on the SingSnap blog. Let us know what era or genre you’d like to test your knowledge in next by contacting us on any of our social media platforms!
