Guess the Songs from the Lyrics - 80s Edition cover

Welcome (back) to the 1980's; the years of conservative politics, the rise of computer technology, as well as of course the funky, well-known fashion and pop culture. Today we're challenging you to travel back in time and to reminisce with us with the help of some favorite tracks from the iconic era! Sing the full version of any of these tracks at the very bottom in our "Answers" section. No peeking though!

Song One

Level: Easy

We’re starting off super easy with this iconic 80s hit that everyone knows. The original version was recorded in 1984, but it took two versions and three releases to really take off; peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart and at the very top of the Billboard Top 100 chart.

"So needless to say I'm odds and ends I'll be stumbling away."

Song Two

Level: Easy

This track was recorded by a unique American musician from their sixth studio album, released in the mid-1980s! The song was the very first belonging to this artist to peak at the very top of the Billboard Hot 100, securing the spot for a grand total of five weeks.

“Touch if you will my stomach Feel how it trembles inside You've got the butterflies all tied up Don't make me chase you.”

Song Three

Level: Medium

Yet another song released at the peak of the 80s in the year 1985, this track was written and produced for a blockbuster film that we can't tell you the name of without giving the answer away! Like the previously featured song, the hit quickly became the artists' very first chart-topping jam. Do these lyrics ring a bell?

“First time you feel it, it might make you sad Next time you feel it, it might make you mad But do be glad baby when you've found.”

Song Four

Level: Medium

This single was released twice and performed by a synth-pop music group. The inspiration for the track came from a poem, speaking of class and the pressures of inner-city life. It also won the title of "Best Single" at the Brit Awards!

“Too many shadows, whispering voices Faces on posters, too many choices If, when, why, what?”

Song Five

Level: Hard

Originally written and released in the mid 70s, this track was first sung by a different artist before another was the one to bring it popularity. It was even named Billboard's top hit of the year! Do you remember it?

“She'll expose you, when she snows you Off your feet with the crumbs, she throws you She's ferocious and she knows just what it.”

Song Six

Level: Hard

This song was recorded by a British new wave band and released in the spring of 1982. As the band's fifth single, it peaked at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart and received a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry.

“Stalked in the forest, too close to hide I'll be upon you by the moonlight side.”

That’s all we have for you today; but if you had fun participating in this music test, there will be many more coming your way here on the SingSnap blog. Let us know what era or genre you’d like to test your knowledge in next by contacting us on any of our social media platforms!
