Technology Through The Years!
You wake up, grab your phone to reply to a message from your friend who lives on the other side of the world. You shout instructions to your Google Home to tell you what the weather will be like today. Flip on the television to watch the local news. Once you're done eating breakfast and putting your coffee cup in the dish washer, it's time to head to work. You use your keyfob to start your car while you grab your laptop and charger.
This scene feels very normal for this day and age but if you look back, just a few decades - the picture looked very different! The evolution of technology has allowed the world to become flat and for communities (Like SingSnap!) to form over the virtual realm!
We thought it would be interesting to take a look back over the past 50 years and see how technology has grown.
The 60’s
This era was considered a period of Social Change. People's lifestyles were changing greatly and the technological inventions reflected that. A few notable inventions from this time are as follows;
- Computers became commercialized
- The Computer mouse was invented
- Audio Tape/Cassettes hit the market
Music was suddenly more compact and could be transported much more easily!
The 70’s
This is the period in history where technology really began to soar
- Color Television was released (bringing those shows and eventually music videos to life!)
- The first Laptop was introduced
- Printers and Floppy Disks hit the market
The foundation for everything we know and love today was laid in the 70s.
The 80’s
This moment in time enhanced some of the early technology and broke ground for exciting things such as;
- The CD ROM (Now you could play music on your computer!)
- Digital Cell Phones (1 G)
- 3D Video Games
Say farewell to the flat two-dimension graphics and say hello to making everything on the computer feel a little more realistic.
The 90’s
Life became "Modern" and major advancements in technology occurred.
- The release of the first version of Internet Explorer
- MP3s were developed (Music is much more easily to share/enjoy)
- DVD's and 2G cellphones amped up the need and desire for entertainment
Suddenly the idea of portable entertainment was taking the world by storm!
The 00’s
Technology continued to mold our lives because suddenly;
- Instant Messaging and Text reached North America
- Social networking sites took over the internet
- The first Smart Phone was released
- SingSnap was born!
It is wild to think of how many of these advancements were done in our life time and almost impossible to imagine life today, without them! What memories do YOU have as a child about new technology?
