Where Did This Holiday Come From?!

"May the 4th be with you" is a pun-based holiday inspired by the famous Star Wars line, "May the Force be with you." It has evolved into a global celebration of Star Wars culture, observed annually on May 4th. The phrase was first used on May 4, 1979, when Margaret Thatcher's political party placed a congratulatory ad in The London Evening News for her becoming Prime Minister, which read, "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations." The date has since been embraced by Star Wars fans around the world, who celebrate the lore, characters, and community of the Star Wars universe.
