On This Day....

The great, talented and inspiring Olivia Newton-John left her earthly body yesterday to go sing with the angels. Moments like that, when the world loses such an influential and impactful presence, things tend to slow momentarily and we begin to reflect on highlights of days gone by.

This moment of reflection has inspired the next installment of "On This Day, in Music History!" Join us as we take a look back on some of the musical milestones that took place on August 9th.

1958 - Cliff Richard ...

British superstar Cliff Richard signed his first record deal at the age of 17. EMI records was fortunate enough to capture this up and coming artist, who has been coined as Britain's version of Elvis Presley.

1964 - The Rolling Stones ...

A policeman was rushed to the hospital with broken ribs, while a couple others fainted after trying to control a crowd of over 3,000 screaming teenagers as The Rolling Stones took the stage at the New Elizabeth Ballroom in Belle Vue, Manchester.

1975 - Bee Gees ...

The Bee Gees got comfortable sitting in the No 1 spot on the US Singles chart with this hit song 'Jive Talkin'". This would be the group's section number one hit in the USA.

1980 - AC/DC ...

AC/DC made it big overseas and scored their first No 1 album in the UK. 'Back in Black" was the bands first album without a female lead singer and sold an estimated 49 million copies worldwide, making it the best selling hard rock or heavy metal album in history.

1986 - Queen ...

Queen performed at Knebworth Park, Stevenage, England, for over 120,000 fans in what would become Queen's last live performance.

1994 - Oasis ...

After being hit in the face by a fan in Tyne, England, Noel Gallagher refused to continue the concert and stormed off the stage. This resulted in over 300 fans attacking their tour bus as they left the facility.

1995 - Jerry Garcia ...

Jerry Garcia, a guitarist and singer from Grateful Dead succumbed to a heart attack, at age 53 in San Francisco. One of his claims to fame was being ranked 13th in Rolling Stones "100 Greatest Guitarist's of All Time"!

2007 - Jennifer Lopez ...

Jennifer Lopez won $545,000 in a case against her first husband after he shared his plan of publishing a book claiming she was unfaithful multiple times during their marriage.

2007 - Amy Winehouse...

23-year old Winehouse was admitted into the hospital for "severe exhaustion". As a result she cancelled many shows including the T in the Park festival, Summer Pops Event and more, all across Europe.

2021 - Chucky Thompson ...

Chucky Thompson, an American hip-hop and R&B record producer, passed away from complications of COVID-19. A career highlight was working on materials for artists such as the Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans.
