Guess The Song From The Lyrics - 60s Edition cover

To quote American broadcasting service PBS, “In the ‘60s, radio, film, television and books carried the essence of American pop culture." This decade was both exciting and overwhelming; defined by counterculture protests and the civil rights movement, but also iconic fashion styles, music and pop culture in general! Think you’re an expert when it comes to ‘60s tracks? Take a trip back in time with us today to guess the song using ONLY the lyrics. (P.S. The answers are at the bottom - but no cheating allowed!)

Song One

Level: Easy

We’re starting off easy with this hit from the late 1960s! Originally offered to be recorded by a completely different musical group, this song became a very popular hit worldwide; spending 4 weeks on the US charts, and 8 weeks on the UK charts!

“Ah, honey, honey You are my candy girl And you got me wanting you.”

Song Two

Level: Easy

Another track released in the later years of the ‘60s, this song only reached a peak of No. 10 on the Billboard Top 100! It’s considered to be this artist’s signature song, featuring backup vocals by a well-known R&B group.

“And whatever happened To Tuesday and so slow? Going down the old mine with a Transistor radio.”

Song Three

Level: Medium

Does ‘Motown’ ring a bell at all? This song was recorded by an iconic trio of women produced by Motown’s main production team. This hit was also #38 on Billboard Music’s list of the 100 Greatest Girl Group songs of all time!

“I've known of your Your secluded nights I've even seen her Maybe once or twice.”

Song Four

Level: Medium

Originally performed in a more blues-oriented style, many believe that this song influenced many later generations of rock musicians, specifically in the genres of heavy metal and punk rock!

“See, don't ever set me free I always wanna be by your side Girl, you really got me now.”

Song Five

Level: Hard

This track, written by a team of 3, is a multiple-award winning and high ranking song. Among others, it was ranked as #50 on The Rolling Stone’s list of ‘The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time’!

“People say I'm the life of the party Because I tell a joke or two Although I might be laughing loud and hearty Deep inside I'm blue.”

Song Six

Level: Hard

This song has been covered by many artists since its release in 1960. It’s rumored that the lead singer of this girl group didn’t want to record it because at the time, she found it to be “too country”! She later agreed to record it after the decision to add a string arrangement.

“Tonight you're mine completely You give your love so sweetly Tonight the light of love is in your eyes.”
