On This Day....

We're back with a new installment of 'This Day in Music History'! Take a walk down memory lane with us as we check out what was making waves and headlines in the wonderful world of music back in the day!

1966 - Buffalo Springfield ...

A new band was formed consisting of Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay. Their sound was a combination of Rock, Folk and Country and was considered truly unique. Their song 'For What It's Worth" sold millions and because an anthem on the political scene in the late 1960's!

1972- Elton John ...

Released the still popular 'Rocket Man' as a single. The song was inspired by a short story of the same name and was covered by Kate Bush in 1991.

1973 - Slade...

Slade's monster hit 'Come on Feel The Noize" made it to the No. 1 spot on the ULK Charts. They were the first act to achieve that distinction since The Beatles.

1973 - Roberta Flack ...

1973 was a huge year for Roberta Flack as she won Song of The Year a the Grammy Awards with "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face".

1990 - Paul McCartney ...

McCartney was on a world tour and played 6 sold-out nights at the Tokyo Dome. The final show was broadcast live to venues in 10 other Japanese cities; Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Kumamoto, Matsuyama, Nagoya, Niigata, Osaka, Sapporp, Sendai and Takamatsu.

1994 - Smashing Pumpkins ...

Found themselves banned from appearing on BBC TV due to the nature of their song lyrics.

1995 - Foo Fighters ...

Foo Fighters made their live debut at a benefit show at The Satyricon in Portland, Oregon.

2000 - Derek Longmuir ...

A Former artist from Bar City Roller was released on bail on charges of Child Pornography. The accused was said to have downloaded images from the internet and kept child pornography movies in his residence.

2003 - Rod Stewart ...

Stewart landed himself in court when Ray Jackson claimed he came up with the hit "Maggie May" and lost out on millions due to not being credited with the tracks super distinctive 'hook'. Jackson was paid just £15 for the recording session by Stewart in 1971.

2004 - Elton John ...

Elton John announcement his plans to marry his partner David Furnish if the Civil Partnership Bill was passed through Parliament.

2009 - U2 ...

U2 released their twelfth studio album and appeared every night for a week on The Late Show with David Letterman.
