As I've done with previous recordings of the song, I did the harmony first, which is available as an open duet (</span><a href="https://www.singsnap.com/#/d/listen/13614175" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.singsnap.com/#/d/listen/13614175</a>) before recording the lead vocal.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><em>"You've Really Got a Hold on Me"</em></strong> is a song written by Smokey Robinson which became a 1962 Top 10 hit single for his group The Miracles. It received a 1998 Grammy Hall of Fame Award. It has also been selected as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.</p><p><br></p><p>The song was covered by the Beatles on their second album, <em>With the Beatles</em>, in 1963. It has been extensively recorded by many artists since its release, among them The Supremes (1964), The Temptations (1965), The Zombies (1965), Jackson 5 (2004), Mickey Gilley (1984), Mike and The Mechanics (1995), Cyndi Lauper (2003), The Small Faces (1967), Eddie Money (1978) and Rod Stewart (2009).</p><p><br></p><p>My recording is based on co<span style="color: rgba(38, 38, 40, 0.9);">untry artist Mickey Gilley's cover version, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 1984. </span>The backing track is from my CS.
