This particular rock number is one of my favorites from that period of time.

"Joy to the World" (also known as “Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog” from the opening line) is a song written by Hoyt Axton and made famous by the band Three Dog Night. They originally released the song in November 1970, and subsequently released an edited version of the song as a single in February 1971.

The song hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1971, ranked by Billboard magazine as the #1 pop single of 1971 and was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo Or Group during the 14th Grammy Awards. It went on to sell 5 million copies worldwide and has since been covered by multiple artists.

A bit of interesting trivia of how the band got its name: The name Three Dog Night comes from a phrase often used by Aboriginal Australian hunters as a barometer for how cold a night in the Outback would be. The hunters would dig a hole in the ground and then use dingos (native species of dog) to keep warm. If it was cold they’d sleep with two dogs. If it was freezing it would be a “three-dog night.”
