<p>This song seems to represent three points or eras in time....</p><p><br></p><p>The song itself, sung by Kenny Rogers, brings back memories of when the song was playing on the air. (1987) </p><p><br></p><p>The lyrics in the song point even farther back, twenty years prior from when Kenny sang it as he recalled some of the same things many of us experienced in the mid to late 60's; drug store soda fountains, movie theaters, school and friends, small town family-owned businesses, and the grim reality and sadness over the tragic losses in the Vietnam war. I wonder if Mr. Johnson, or any of the Mr. Johnsons across the country at the time, ever recovered from the loss of their child. I sincerely doubt it.</p><p><br></p><p>The third point is a simple equation which I appended late in the song as an 'Update'. It marks how long it has been for me in this time-line; from the time Joe died (approx. 1964 give or take a year or so), to today, not including the age I was at that time. That would be way to easy! You do the math!</p><p><br></p><p>Moving ahead, the days, weeks, months, and years seem much shorter, but I still remember the past while at the same time look forward to the remaining years ahead.
