I have the same kind of sense you mention about when you record and save it.
I sometimes try too many takes and lose my mind, but when I can save one as feeling it's the one to be saved, I feel happy. :-) I know it doesn't show much difference to people, I know though. :P

The Theme is American Bandstand and artists who have appeared on...
I don't know this song too well, I have heard it many times but this was the first time of singing it, and I decided to improvise - best way when you really don't know what you are doing. I hope it is bearable :-)
I did try to do it again as, as with everything, I always feel "one more", I can do this better - well I couldn't as improvisation is a bit like Chinese Whispers and the Wall, each take gets more and more disjointed from the original and less "heart", and then my computer completely crashed again. On restart this was still here, so I take that as a good omen to "keep it!" And be satisfied - although, I know there's a whole load of room for improvement.
The current challenge runs to Tuesday 24th March and anyone can join us, no judging - just sharing with all who sing online for enjoyment.
