Is Halloween over?
The tomato, native to the Americas, was introduced to Europe by the Spanish. An English botanist named John Gerard popularized the notion that they were poisonous. Indeed parts of the stem and leaves contain poisonous glycoalkaloids. As a result the fruit was not eaten in Britain or The American colonies until the 18th century.
Today we know they are not dangerous...or are they????
