The original production of The Fantasticks (yes SSnap spelled it incorrectly) opened in 1960 and ran for 17,162 performances, becoming the world's longest-running musical, for 42 years. This song was sung originally by Jerry Orbach, who later became best known as Detective Lennie Briscoe on NBC's Law and Order. He was also the dad in Dirty Dancing. He died in December of 2004.
