As I listened to this and read your story chills ran through me. The purity of the vocals and the imagery of your words painted a picture on the soul. Beautiful just not seem enough to say .............

I can't imagine all the sacrifice you Brits have done to recover from the hard times you have gone through, even though i have watch it on documentaries on TV .. i think it is quite shocking -in a weird good way- when someone you know relates a story like you just have.
I can only say that this is most beautiful but best of it so GENUINE !
And for now, i say later, wondering how much a human being needs to be 'under the circumstances' to be awarded with a good soul, a good pure soul like yours.
Muah !

:-) Thank you... I do hope that the message I am putting across is not of the gloom of the graft, but more, we have so much to be grateful for in the one thing that costs nothing and everything at the same time, love ...

Thank you for sharing that part of your life with us, I can relate, my parents grew up in Italy in the 30's and 40's not the best of times, but whatever little they had they shared, and they instilled in their four kids the same values. We have much to be thankful for, one of which is having you for a friend. That was a lovely song Janet, thank you for sharing it with us. And while Thanksgiving is not a holiday in England, I hope you have a super wonderful day just the same.

Everyone's A Winner Thanksgiving 2008 Challenge/Showcase Thingy XCI
Theme: Thanksgiving...
Not a competition, no judging, open to all, just sharing of songs amongst friends - come and join us, ends Tuesday 2nd December 6PM EDT.
When I was 13 1/2-15 years old I moved from Hampshire down to Penzance, Cornwall and then back again... it was a strange but very beautiful time of growing up for me, being away from my father was the most difficult thing. He could not get work in Penzance and he struggled greatly all his life on leaving the navy after 24 years of service (active service during WWII) when I was born, and taking on all forms of work including mucking out pigs, riding a bicycle 24 miles each way to work in an Engineering factory in worn out shoes, many sacrifices to keep us going.
He was a Richmond, Yorkshire man... and this song reminds me to be grateful to him for those things...
I digress - In my Secondary School I was introduced to folk music. This was the very first song I sang with a small group of friends and a teacher called Mr Pete Toland, I grew very fond of him, he helped me a lot. And funnily enough he studied under one of my removed cousins who was a lecturer at Essex University, small world!
This was my very first harmony I made up...
I wanted to say too, how grateful I was to these people for introducing me to a fine line of music and singing... :-)
This song is about the hard times of growing and keeping a family and the grotty jobs in life you take on to help them survive. But there is a good ending.
I think this song will live with me forever. I hope you like it.
You know, I've never heard the original of this, until last night when I was trawling youtube - I often do that heheh, you can imagine my delight to find it :D Tim Hart and Maddy Prior...
HappyThanksgiving Everyone... with love ...
:-)
Sorry about the funny faces! And er, all the words!!!! :P
