I'm so close the Midwest flood, but thank God, we've been spared so far, except farmers with bottom ground.

Agreeing with Mike, I don't want to miss your creative performances...
This is all so sort of magestic with the haunting melody, the piano, the youtube!
You can't hide from Mother Nature...lucky to have survived tornadoes, a hurricane and the tropical storms and an earthquake.
I count my blessings every day.
Thank you Adam for this thoughtful presentation. It's going to my playlist for sure.

What a surprise. This is terrific, truly.
I recall a piano piece written by Ralph McTell about the poet Sylvia Plath ....... must go play it.

Thank you for putting this on here... I am in Illinois near Chicago, I know it's bad by the Mississippi, Fox Lake area, and even in my home town near the Fox river. Our prayers are with those that are affected by all this... That their homes and buildings, and lives may be spared, by this yet another catastrophe..

Peter Gabriel - Here Comes the Flood
(cover & photo-montage)
The video file is 16 MB and will take a while to load. The widget below has an audio-only version in case you're having trouble with the montage. Oh, and it's better quality audio as well, if you care about that.
lyrics
Here Comes the Flood
When the night shows,
the signals grow on radios
All the strange things
they come and go, as early warnings.
Stranded starfish have no place to hide
still waiting for the swollen Easter tide
There's no point in direction:
we cannot even choose a side.
Took the old track,
the hollow shoulder across the waters
On the tall cliffs
they were getting older, sons and daughters
The jaded underworld was riding high
Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky
and as the nail sunk in the cloud,
the rain was warm and soaked the crowd.
Lord, here comes the flood!
We will say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive.
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry.
When the flood calls
You have no home, you have no walls
In that thunder-crash,
you're a thousand minds, within a flash.
Don't be afraid to cry at what you see
The actor's gone, there's only you and me
And if we break before the dawn,
they'll use up what we used to be.
Lord, here comes the flood!
We will say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive.
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry.
notes
This is my cover version of Peter Gabriel's "Here Comes the Flood" (the softer piano version off Shaking the Tree, not the more bombastic one from Car.) The piano backing track is by Dutch musician and visual artist Corien Bennink, to whom I promised a link. :-) She does piano-only tracks of pop songs for fun, many of which can be found on YouTube. I'm hoping I can get her to join us here and share more of them.
Always a favorite of mine; this haunting song was brought back to mind by all the disastrous floods, hurricanes, cyclones, tsunamis, etc. we've been experiencing, most recently in my native Midwest. I've set it to a free-association montage of photos off the web. Some are historical; others happened just this week.
If by any chance you feel moved to help out recent flood victims after listening, Network for Good has a useful list of major charity links.
