Scarlett hoping on one leg watering her weeds. one more acre to go!!!!Hey Ellen, I sure know what you are talking about living in the country and being country which I am dang proud of!!!. I did those things you mentioned and you forgot how we killed a hog in the winter for meat for the winter months. You sound awesome. Kids now a days don't know what real work is. I do know we always respected our elders no matter if we liked them or not they were older than us so we respected them. I love to hear a child today say thank you and please. It shows good raising. hugs to you,Scarlett

Thanks, Ya'll for your visit and your comments.. No, I didn't forget, Scarlett, I'll never forget that "chitlin" bread...lol!! Canning vegetables in jars, hanging meat in the smoke house, hanging clothes out on the closeline and getting stung by honey bees, because we always went barefoot in the summer.
Should we mention the "outhouse"?? hehe...actually, since my Dad was a carpenter, we had indoor facilities before most others did in our area.

This is marvelous Ellen! Although I wasn't raised in the country I sure was raised poor and my Dad was a hard working man and his word was final! I was eight years old when we got our first television. We also made our own fun because we sure didn't have many toys to play with. We could do wonders with the big cardboard boxes we would get from the furniture store. We would make a fort out of them or use the boxes to slide down hills in. The kids today spent too much time indoors playing video games, etc .. you couldn't keep me indoors when I was a kid .. we would play outside from dusk to dawn in the Summer time when school was out.
This was a great song, great singing and a great remembrance of our up bringing!

Yeap, when ya' looking at me, you're looking at "Country"!!! This south Mississippi country girl was raised way back in the stix, on home grown fruits & vegetables and raw cow's milk. Kids should be so lucky these days.
No TV or Phone, we entertained ourselves when we weren't picking cotton, shucking corn, or shelling peas. There was always plenty of work to be done areound the farm, and Daddy was never shy about dishing it out. And, when we got out of line he reined us in with a keen switch off a hedge bush or his belt...whichever was handiest...(Oh, yeah, we got to get the switch, too, and it had better be a good one...)
Just having a "coke" and peanuts to put in it was a real treat, and didn't happen very often. This is just a little glimpse into the life of a REAL country girl....;>)
