WELCOME!
Hello Snappers! Welcome once again to Rhythm & News , the newsletter dedicated to the SingSnap community. We hope you all continue to enjoy reading (and contributing to) our humble publication, where we aim to keep you in touch with current events throughout the SingSnap world.
And here we are at issue #6, the May edition. Regular features return such as News-In-Brief, keeping you updated with the latest site events; interviewing the staff as “So What Do You Actually Do Anyway” pins down another “red”; Meet The Team, Horoscopes and Tech Tips are all still here along with a few new bits and pieces. I actually met up with some fellow Snappers last month and lived to tell the tale, so that’s exactly what I did! We’ve also got some hints for Mother’s Day, one of our roving reporters infiltrates the mysterious but very popular world of SingSnap Contests/Challenges and there are even more prize-winning articles for you to enjoy.
I am always extremely proud of the efforts the News Team puts in but I don’t want to burn them out! There’ll be a mutiny if I keep cracking the whip for new ideas, so if YOU have any hidden gems you feel are worthy of inclusion in future editions of Rhythm & News by all means let us know. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you still get the credit; well, some of it anyway. Hey, I have a job to protect!

HOW ORIGINAL
Original Content is finally here!
After months of speculative requests by much of the community SingSnap finally ventured into the realms of original content and raised the bar for its competitors that much higher.
On the 17th of April 2009 the first EVER recording of an officially sanctioned original track, written by SingSnap ’s own B u b b a 1 RECORDING-SUPPORT (Jim), was made by the man himself. Along with the expertise of Staff member j a s o n STAFF the track has been given the necessary lyrics treatment and is available as part of the SingSnap backing track catalogue for all those who have access.
The song, called “Just Who I Am” not only creates yet another landmark in the continuing development of this amazing site but it is also an excellent piece of music! Rhythm & News team member STAT_SUEof_LYRICLY was one of the first to have the pleasure of creating her version and at the time of writing there are 10 pages of recordings available to listen to!
Congratulations to Jim on his wonderful production. This hopefully will be the first of many original recordings available for the SingSnap community. Click here if you want to listen to that historic launch of “Just Who I Am” and then go try it yourself.
LOST & FOUND?
Community Page and Site Map revamped
April 24th marked the arrival of the new-look SingSnap Community introduction page, which incorporates a number of radical changes to the previous version.
Links to private messages, recording comments, message boards etc. all remain but they now have company in the form of:
An easy-access gallery of new members arriving each day.
Lists and links to the most popular message boards.
Direct links to the newsletter (we thought that one was very good).
A running table of the most recently updated status messages.
As usual the community were invited to comment on the revamp and did so. Some were initially a little lost and uncertain about the changes but many are now warming to the new features. Further development of the page, created by Staff member P e r STAFF , will continue based on the feedback he has received so far. Click here to take a look.
In addition to the Community page Per has also been tinkering with the SingSnap Site Map , much to the surprise of many of us since we didn’t even know one existed in the first place! So there you go. If there is anything at all you need to find on SingSnap , the Site Map will take you there.
ALL BETTER NOW?
“Make Me Sound Better” function lives up to its name
April 29 2009; yet another red letter day for SingSnap . This is the date that staff member j a s o n STAFF delivered what promises to be one of the most popular new features ever created for the site; the “Make Me Sound Better” function.
“Make Me Sound Better” or MMSB in its short form (another success for the marketing department with that name!) is a brilliant little tool that does exactly what it says. Following the ongoing begging and pleading for audio enhancements this remarkable device takes your saved recording and basically knocks it into shape. Volume and mixing differentials are tackled; compression and reverb is applied to smooth out those rough edges so you no longer sound like you’re sat in a cupboard under the stairs. All at the touch of a single magic button.
MMSB is still in a purely experimental stage but the early feedback has been so enthusiastic that many of SingSnap ’s more experienced users, including Trevor himself, who were using additional equipment such as external mixers are finding that they are no longer required.
Much of the SingSnap community, while celebrating this latest improvement, were concerned however that the potential backlash of this feature might attract P e r STAFF to sing, but their fears were calmed when he explained that “It would take more than MMSB to smooth out MY rough edges. An industrial strength angle grinder couldn’t even do it!”
More details on MMSB can be found here on the message boards.
Mother’s Day is celebrated in the USA and Canada on the second Sunday every May. The mothers of the UK have already had theirs for this year back in March. I’m sure there’s very good reason for it and sticking my English head into the lion’s mouth the way I’m about to probably doesn’t help my long term survival plans, but if I mentioned lack of patience…
Anyhow, by way of saying Happy Mother’s Day from across the pond Rhythm & News interviewed a British mum for the occasion, partly to maintain our warm and snuggly international community feeling, but mostly because I was too scared to leave them out!

A SINGSNAP MUM STORY
by
b i p o l a r b e t t y
Once upon a time, there was a Mom named M a n d y FORUM-MODERATOR , who lived in the UK, with her four children who call her "Mum", and four grandkids who call her "Nanny". They all sing songs and dance on video with her. It gets pretty crazy, and if you get lucky, you can catch Mandy herself singing in garters and stockings! And you know what they say, a family that sings, dances, puts on crazy costumes and wigs, and plays together, stays together.
M a n d y FORUM-MODERATOR is a very busy Mum, working as a KJ, (Karaoke Jockey), and explains:
"I've been a KJ (Karaoke Jockey/Host) for the past 13 years. It is a lot of fun most of the time, but it's also very hard work, which most people don't see. The obvious, is me presenting at a gig, getting people up to sing, encouraging the shy, praising all for their efforts, most of all ensuring that everyone gets a fair share of the singing, and that they enjoy themselves. Behind the scenes, it's quite different. There are always discs to be bought to keep myself up to date, which often means hours of trawling through retailers to see what they have on offer, books to be updated and re-printed, equipment to be checked to make sure it conforms to standards, the continual loading and unloading of the gear from home to gig (don't even get me started on stairs up to a venue... arrgh!); then there are the various insurances to be kept up, and the books to balance for the dreaded tax man!"
And if all that didn't keep her busy enough, what with the KJ gigs and the singing and dancing with adorable afro-wig-wearing children, she holds a job at SingSnap as a Volunteer Forum Moderator, which is further testament to her patience.
M a n d y FORUM-MODERATOR says, "There are the friendships that I have made with so many people, some that I converse with on a daily basis, some more intermittently. They have become like part of my extended family, and I can't imagine being without them."
The very reason she is able to handle a busy life chasing after all the zanies here on SingSnap , and as a Mother of four, is probably due to her modern and realistic view on life and Motherhood:
"I'll be honest, there are times they all have done or do drive me nuts, but that's part of being a Mum isn't it? I do love watching them grow into the people they are becoming, often wishing they'd go down another route and wishing they'd realize that I was young once and made mistakes as well. I am just trying to stop them from making similar ones but I also brought them up to have minds of their own. So, for the most part, I'm just here for them for whatever happens and they know that when they need me, I will be there for them. I'm their Mum."
Mothers show pride about us rugrats, and in this story M a n d y FORUM-MODERATOR 's pride is ever-present:
"My eldest (Jemma) did a surprise video for my birthday last week, she didn't even tell me she had done it, I just came across it in my faves list. She's a good girl, very loving daughter.
“When my 2nd eldest (Tara) was 3, she got knocked over by my eldest on her bike, and her leg got broken in two places. I remember rushing her to the hospital, and as she lay there crying on the bed as they were splinting it, she looked up at me with her big brown eyes and said 'Mummy, I can't cope, I'm too little for this!' and through my own tears she just made me smile.
“Kiera is 10 and possibly the most sensitive of all my girls, and even though she's a right little madam at times (Can’t imagine where she gets that from. Ed) she'll often pop downstairs with a drawing or a poem that she's been busy doing, to share.
“Shannon is 7, and the one everyone refers to as 'mini-me'. She's very much a law unto herself, and is content with her own company, or the company of others. She doesn't express herself very often in an emotional way, so last week while we were on holiday, when she came up to me unexpectedly, kissed me on the cheek, and said 'I love you Mummy'; it meant more than if she said it every day."
Stories of mothers like this inspire us, and of course they all lived happily ever after, on SingSnap .
Here are a couple videos you MUST see! It looks like so much fun in the Barnett household, I wish I were related! Do you think M a n d y FORUM-MODERATOR would adopt me even if we are the same age? How does Betty Barnett sound? Kind of has a nice ring to it.
Ever said this when you realise that Mother’s Day is upon you and you forgot about it?
“AAAAGGGHHH!”
Yeah, me too. Despite being told every year that “a card will do fine, really” deep down that little voice in your head tells you that you really should know better by now. Fortunately help is here. Although we’re giving you very little notice to organise something, we’re at least providing those who forgot about it more than you had without our intervention! So use the meagre time you have left wisely; read our article on quick and easy (and inexpensive!) presents to put a smile on mother dearest’s happy little face on her special day; at least until she sees your laundry basket and the mess you left your bedroom in.
Mother's Day Madness
by s i n g i n g c o n f e s s i o n GOLD
As we all know, Mother's Day is rapidly approaching. Of course, it's not a requirement, but it usually is appreciated to present your motherly figure with a gift. That means it's time for the dreaded shopping and having to spend a bunch of money on something she probably wouldn't even like... NOT! What a lot of people may not realize is that Mother's Day isn't about the money spent on the gift; it is about the thought put into it. There are many things your mother will love without breaking your pocket book. Here are just a few ideas to get the imagination going.
First of all, moms love pictures. You can give her the gift of memories by either making a scrapbook or a slide show DVD. Include pictures of your mother and all of her children (or just her and yourself if you prefer.) It doesn't have to be fancy. As long as it looks like there was effort put into it, your mom is sure to love it.
Most women have a sweet tooth. Instead of buying her favorite goodies, why not try making them yourself? If you're planning on spending the day with your mom, you can make her favorite goodies together. This idea isn't only limited to sweet treats. You can always cook your moms favorite meal. Possibly make her breakfast in bed if you live with your mom, or invite her over for dinner if you don't.
A lot of stores offer sample (or one time use) packages of spa things such as mud masks and scrubs. Pick out a few of those and put them in a nice gift bag/basket. Mom doesn't always need to go to the spa to feel pampered.
One thing I learned from my mom is the art of gift baskets. Any idea can be used as the theme for a gift basket. If she has a hobby, try to get her a few little objects revolving around that and put them together in a basket. For example, if your mom likes gardening, you could include a few bags of bulbs for her to plant along with some gloves and some small yard tools. If you know her favorite movie, you could include the movie, a couple packages of popcorn, and a box of theater-type candy all together in a basket.
For those whose money tree is really bare, you can make a booklet of “I Owe You” tickets. Each ticket says “I Owe You” and then it finishes with a random act of kindness that you would be willing to do for your mom at any time. A couple examples would be “I owe you a foot massage” or “I owe you a house cleaning.”
Finding a gift for your mother doesn't have to feel like just another thing to knock of the to-do list. Remember, it's not about obligation... Actually, in a way it is considering you're recognizing your mom for honoring her obligations to you your whole life. That's beside the point. The one fool-proof tip to the perfect Mother's Day present is this: Make it thoughtful, personal, and have fun with it!
Gather a few people together for a bit of R&R over a long weekend and you have a party. Include an undisclosed quantity of alcohol and uncertain weather conditions and you most likely have a party in the UK. Add to that a seaside resort venue and a permanent waiting list for the karaoke machine and you have SnapBash; Blackpool 2009. The British SingSnap contingent was very proudly represented at England’s North West coast back in mid April and we flew the logo with pride…
SNAPBASH; BLACKPOOL, UK – APRIL 17–19, 2009
by
R E A L L Y M A D
Whether you refer to it as a meet, gathering, get-together, party or whatever else I’d have to say that “SnapBash”, the term coined by iffypresley, the organiser of the Blackpool SingSnap event 2009, fits like a glove. Because, after two days of alcohol-fuelled frolics and debauchery in Britain’s answer to Las Vegas, I did feel bashed about quite a bit.
And I’d do it all over again tomorrow!
I was fortunate enough to find a room in the same hotel on the seafront as some other SingSnappers who were due to attend. I knew it was the right place when the landlady asked if I was in with “that karaoke lot” and went on to describe this little bloke from Bolton as a “right nutcase on the phone”. Ladies and gentleman, I give you stannyjoe aka Colin. I first saw him as he was walking away from the hotel with a nice blonde lady (saphire59; Gillian) but as I had never met them in person before I wasn’t sure if indeed it WAS stannyjoe. Perhaps the roast chicken shaped balaclava that he wore should have given me a clue. I also thought that the dodgy-looking guy walking next to them wearing a wooly hat and a hoodie was about to nick stannyjoe’s wallet! It turns out that this was iffy. Oops!
The point I am making here is that no matter how accomplished you are on a keyboard, or even on camera or voice, it is very easy to get the wrong impression and there is nothing quite like meeting up face to face to get the real story. Of the 45 or so names that were on the original Events thread just over 20 showed. Anyone who has attempted to gather ANY group of people for such an occasion will tell you that if you get half of them there you’re doing well.
Iffy; you did brilliantly! Back of the net my son! We came from far and wide, we drank, we sang (yes, even me!), we wore our SingSnap badges with pride, we drank some more, we bonded, we made new friends and finally we got completely sozzled! How much better could it possibly get? Not that I’m saying that you NEED alcohol to have a great time but in a place like Blackpool, it helps. It’s a British thing I suppose. How proud we must all be!
I’d like to mention just a few stand-out moments, other than stannyjoe wearing a traffic cone on his head of course. When we all first met up there was that usual initial period of awkwardness (how funny that all seems now) and nobody was volunteering to “get up first” until iffy offered a free pint. Stannyjoe was out of the trap faster than a hare on a dog track.
Iffy still hasn’t paid up by the way.
I myself had always maintained that I wouldn’t be up singing, all that embarrassing public display and everything. After a few bevvies however and the promise from saphire59 that “I’d get up if Mick did” I was too easily conned and didn’t keep my word. Neither did saphire 59! Gillian; you owe me two songs missus! Sneaky. We did sing a duet together so that made up a little for it. Actually I think the only person who managed to avoid the mic was Gaz, unless I missed that. He’s forgiven though since we celebrated his birthday with a nice cake and everything while we were there. Yep, 27; probably just a hard paper round.
I’ll tell you something right now; we have some REAL talent in our ranks. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, gave a fabulous performance, truly. There is one I would like to highlight specifically, that being Xtine (Christine). She completely blew us away; the owner of Crazy Scots Karaoke Bar was so impressed he bought her a drink on the house! This is a place that is open every day; it has karaoke on every every night. Imagine how many have sung there over the years. Imagine just how hard it is to impress the management. Well done Xtine, just fabulous!
Here are just some of the pictures of the Blackpool 2009 SingSnappers in action:
A thread for more of the same next year was started on the message boards the day after we all got home from this one, and plenty of names have been put down already. This alone should tell you just how good it was. Click here if you’re interested in joining us for Blackpool 2010.
My personal and sincere thanks go to the following establishments for their part in making this event an unforgettable success:
The Gaiety Bar
Crazy Scots Karaoke Bar
The Crewes Original Hotel
And finally, to all those who turned up, old friends and new, take a bow!
Iffypresley, Deviless, Kiki-jayne, debsydo, Ace2alf, kaishasmummy05, heart4u2love, dazzler, saphire59, stannyyjoe, bwfcjohn (& Shaz), Debs, sonofdel (& Rebecca + toni), Xtine, mrledzep, armyman1967, Trace, Gaz, karaoke19699
Stars, each and every one of you. Absolute top drawer!
Colin; I’m still laughing over the gag about the tapeworm and the Mars bar. Quality!
I have been asked on occasion about the chain of command and job titles and similar regarding the newsletter. I like to keep it simple but the well practiced chant of “I say; you do!” seems to fall on deaf ears for some reason.
The latest workforce martyrs pushed out through the office door to face the beloved public are employed as writers, which doesn’t do nearly enough justice to the amount of input that they (and in fact all the members of the News Team) give to EVERY aspect of the newsletter. It’s just that I really can’t be bothered to tie anyone down with the hierarchy! And with that ladies and gentlemen, please say hello to Binky- and divinedivauk…

Hey there is this girl trapped in my body.. O' mercy its me "Binky" she is a giggler even in her sleep I am told by my kid's. Mother of 4 & Nana of 4 precious grand babies (3 are two years old) the other just turned one. Aha that explains the scaly skin! Yikes
Wow a few years ago I found this Site & literally it has saved my life, whoops then again perhaps my singing endangered some eardrums (slight giggle). It is a good thing most of my recording are set to private then huh?
Finally I am an Elvis fanatic or lunatic ha ha no, there ain't never too many Elvis songs... So yeah I SingSnap every moment possible I am lurking even now!

Adelle was born chatting... and hasn't stopped! When not chatting to someone she's typing some ramblings, when not doing that she's eating or singing and when not doing that she's probably asleep.
Ah yes, she's a simple creature that one.
Her biggest hobbies (apart from chatting of course) are amateur dramatics, creative writing and chasing haggis round the lovely green fields of Scotland. Och aye the noo!
Random fact: As well as singing in her native English and Glaswegian Adelle can sing in Spanish & Tagalog. Just don't ask her what the lyrics mean though; she doesn't speak the languages, only sings! Bet the Spanish speaking folks and Pinoys are happy otherwise she'd be spending all her time chatting and missing out on food and sleep!
**Note from Editor -We had to edit Adelle’s bio here because she’d have gone on forever**
Rhythm & News continues its quest to get to grips with those mysteriously elusive and frustratingly secretive staff members, who toil and suffer every single day purely for our benefit, and interrogates them! In this daring mission to find the answers you’ve all been dying to know, newsletter Editor REALLYMAD’s (Mick’s) series of probing interviews with the management herds the latest victim into a corner and turns the hose on him...
So what do you actually do anyway?
by
R E A L L Y M A D
Hello Per and thank you for finding time in your hectic schedule for this interview for Rhythm & News.
No problem at all.
I’m sure you must be a very busy man what with all the, er, things you have to do.
I try to make it appear that I'm busy anyway.
That's an occupation in itself I know but doing what, exactly? What’s your actual job in here?
Well, the only thing I'm actually trained to do is programming but I get involved with a lot of other "crap" too, I'm sure Trevor loves me for it hahaha.
If it means less work for him I'm sure he does.
Sadly it usually means more work for him I think.
He must like you then if you're still in a job.
That is the hope I'm clinging to.
How much time does that take up?
The "crap"? Or the programming?
Both.
I have no idea, I work from home and have absolutely no concept of time.
Working from home and being able to slack off without anybody knowing? I’m definitely applying for a job at SingSnap Towers. Can I use you as a character reference on my application?
Yes, but it wouldn't be in your best interest to do so.
And why is that? Didn't I bribe you enough?
[laughing] No, keep trying though. You must be good at it since someone finally made you editor. Persistence pays off I guess.
I guess so. Either that or you were desperate. Anyway, programmer of SingSnap , the player and recorder software. All your own work? Do you have the patent on them?
I'm pretty sure it's all done in-house, yes. j a s o n STAFF does the player work though so I don't know for sure about that part.
So your work is mostly the site layout and facilities?
Most of the layout was done by Tim, a graphic designer who no longer works for us.
Whatever is left, I did haha.
I'm looking through the list to see what that actually is. Just give me a second to delete the last half-dozen questions I had prepared...
To sum up, I work from home and you can't really find much evidence of actual work. Doesn't make me look too good does it? Haha.
Sorry Per, hope it doesn't cost you a job. I'll post my CV tomorrow though just in case.
Sure, post it in "Beliefs".
That much chance huh?
Well, you already work for us for free so you're not in a good spot to start negotiating.
Shrewd. Anyway to continue, as we are regularly introduced to new and improved features on the site, which ones can you put your name to? Just so we know who to blame and everything...
[laughing] Basically if the feature is not flash based I probably made it. The player and recorder are flash based.
The Inner Circle groups were your fault then?
Yup.
And the Beliefs and Politics sections on the message boards?
No, you brought that on yourself. The community I mean. Seems to be a fun and peaceful atmosphere in there though [wink].
Nice back heel. A career in politics awaits you sometime in the future no doubt.
You seem to be a very private man; not much is known about you outside your involvement with SingSnap . I can respect that but since this is an interview I’m going to be nosey. So, Married? Divorced? Co-habiting? Still with your parents? Kids? Girlfriend? Boyfriend?
Yes, to all of that. Or the alternate answer; almost married, 1 kid.
Boy or girl? How old? The kid I mean
Boy; age 5.
Wedding plans - made any?
Not yet, trying to get the important things done first like getting kids, buying a house, dying... all that you know.
I'll just put "not in the immediate future" for that one.
Good call.
You’ve worked with Trevor (President of SingSnap ) for the last ten years, ever since he bought a music business off you. Why did you sell up?
Mostly because it was an adventure to move to Canada.
Has be paid the bill yet?
Yes, he did eventually...
I was wondering if that was part of why you still had a job. What other projects have you worked on together?
A ton of similar music websites. None as good as SingSnap though.
Obviously not. Much like Trevor it seems unusual to have so much involvement in the music business and yet produce none of your own. Why is that? You are constantly pestered and begged by the female contingent of SingSnap to sing something. Will you ever give in?
My fiancee has forbidden me to sing. Last time I sang (at a baptism I think) she said I sounded like I was wounded when I sang. I usually follow her advice and will never sing again.
I can hear broken hearts all over SingSnap , both at the singing and the mention of a fiancee.
Actually, I think they've given up now, and by "they" I mean Jacqui.
Oh she'll LOVE that mention.
[laughing] Don't get her started again!
You mentioned earlier that it was an adventure moving to Canada. I thought you lived in Sweden?
Yeah, I do now. I moved to Canada in '99 though and lived there for a year and a half, just trying to order cable TV with "Per" as my first name was an adventure in itself!
I can imagine. So, right now are you in Canada or Sweden?
Sweden.
Right, I'm keeping up. Does the distance cause any problems running the business?
No, I'm running it just fine from here hahaha.
I'm leaving that in you know.
Haha, yes I thought it looked like an intentional setup.
Here's another one. What is Trevor like as a boss?
Oh, here come the easy questions eh...
I broke you in gently.
I like his style but I don't think it's for everyone, let's just leave it at that [wink].
Ooooo controversial! Ten years you've worked together? I'm amazed!
Haha, not sure if we should publish that.
Have you two ever met up? Have you met up with any of the other staff members?
I go there all the time actually, Like a few times per year. Coinciding in a strange way with the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs usually.
Well fancy that what are the odds? So what are the chances of us volunteers getting invited to the staff Xmas party?
Is that an actual question [laughing]?
Depends on whether or not we like the answer.
Pretty good if you're female I think.
Thanks a bunch!
Hahaha!
This of course isn’t the first time you have been interviewed for the newsletter, having won the “Most Attractive SingSnap Staff Member” poll as announced in issue #3 back in December.
A prestigious award for sure.
Was there a lot of rivalry? Did you rub it in much? Was there any internal fighting that we weren’t told about?
Not really. All the guys agreed with the decision and I'm pretty sure they voted for me as well.
The mind boggles. Strangely having won such an accolade there is no video footage of you anywhere and we struggled to find pictures of you that we could use for this article. Personally I don’t see the problem about showing yourself on the site (ahem) – I do remember one pic though that looked like you had just been arrested. Was I right?
That was key in winning actually, provide as little footage of me as possible and use a very old photoshopped graphic.
Works for me. Nice one! What do you do outside SingSnap ? Any exciting talents or sporting / leisure activities you indulge in?
I play floorball (pause so everyone can wikipedia that) and football.
Any good?
Not really but I compensate the lack of skill with pure aggression.
Seems fair. I've seen Swedish defenders. Ruthless.
Yeah, they carry on the Viking tradition.
Okay Per just a couple more questions. The site has recently been excited over the new features you've given us. Can you give us a sneak preview of
forthcoming attractions?
I've promised myself to not make stupid promises...
(When do you intend to start that one?)
... but as Trevor usually says, we're just getting started. We're still excited about building this site after doing it for 3 years which is a pretty good feeling. How was my sidestepping the question? Did it work?
He'll be proud, trust me. You two must play cards together.
We do, haha!
And finally, how frustrating is it to see complaints about the most trivial of issues when many still get so much for free on SingSnap ?
Oh, a potential HOT question to end with... I can see why you are the Editor.
It's a gift.
That part doesn't frustrate me at all actually, it helps us build the site and make it better. If all we'd get was "awesome" we'd never be able to improve.
Don't get me started on the "awesome".
Hahaha!
And with that Per, I'd like to thank you very much for letting us interrupt whatever it is you do. The SingSnap community are extremely grateful for all your efforts.
No problem, I still have plenty of time left for some feature page spamming. Okay, I took it too far there, haha!
I'm keeping it in unless I get that Xmas party invite. AND I'll tell everyone how old you are!
[laughing]
Our resident astrological oracle (go on then, say that quickly!) bipolarbetty returns once again to tease the universal powers-that-be out of some more of those wonderfully unique and entertaining little titbits that make up the vision of our future.

Where WOULD we be without our busy little nerdy bees to help us make it through the day because we have neither the time, brains, patience, inclination nor a combination of all four to learn about all those vitally important little details that stop us swearing at the screen and seriously consider testing how far our keyboard could fly?

TIPS FROM THE NERD SQUAD
He’s back! Our top tech tipster Spanky is back with the second of three instalments of his own step-by-step guide to ironing out your recording creases, so to speak. Follow his instructions correctly and you won’t go far wrong.
Recording Tips – Part 2 of 3
Hello. My name is S p a n k y RECORDING-SUPPORT . and here is another Tech Tip for you. In last month’s issue of the news letter we discussed how record your song. Now we have some fun tools here for you all to enjoy. This is for both Blue, and Gold Members.
First you want to make sure that your Enable Music has a check mark next to it, and the song is fully loaded. Above the Enable Music the information box will say "Recording Will Be Mono (for Blue Members)" or "Recording Will Be Stereo (for Gold Members)", unless of course you had your stereo disabled since you have that option, in which case you’re back to mono.
Once that you have selected “Enable Music” your music track will be in place. Now as your song is starting you want to listen closely to the music, the background vocals, and your vocals. If your voice is too loud or too soft you will see a mixing tool with a slider called “Mix Volume”. It is located just under “Enable Music”. Now the Mix Volume has a slider tool. One side will say Voice, and the other side will say Music. By moving the slider towards the Voice it will bring your vocals out front making it louder. By moving the slider towards Music it will make the music louder than your voice. If you set your Record Volume correctly as I discussed earlier you should only have to make a minor adjustment if any to the Mix Volume.
Once you have both vocals and music evenly mixed, you will want to make sure your timing is correct. During your preview while you are setting your Voice and Music Mix Volume you might notice that your vocals does not sync up with the music. If this is the case there is an “Adjust Timing” tool located under the Mix Volume on the player. You will want to make sure that your Adjust Timing has a check mark next to it. When you click on it the timing value tool will have a - and a +.
Now these are important. When making changes to the timing you will want to pay attention to the top right of the Mixer it will say “Preview Accuracy”, and a little round ball that will flash from Red to Green . Red meaning that it is not in accurate, and Green meaning that it accurate. Now this ball may flash some during the preview, but make sure that it is not consistently Red. If it is you may not have your settings set correctly on your sound card, and may wish to talk to a Recording Support Team Member to help you with your settings.
When you start to adjust your timing, and your vocal is ahead of the music, you will want to press the + button. I suggest moving it one click at a time. You will see the numeral number 1 come up. Sometimes you may have to move it to+ 2, or more. If you find that your vocal is behind the music you will want to use the - button. Again a number will come up and say -1. You may have to take this number to -2 or more. You can also set the master volume on the recorder as needed. Once that you have your song mixed and you are happy with your preview. At the top right of the page above the mixer it will say “I like it, let's proceed to saving it”. You will want to click on that. This will take you to the “Save and Share It” page.
If you have any questions, comments, or need help. Please feel free to private message me, or come see me or one of my wonderful colleagues in the Live Support Chat located in your Help tab.
Hope this Tip from a Tech helps you all. Have fun and enjoy recording

Have you ever noticed when you open the Message Board Categories page that they are almost always headed up by the following?
Contests – Auditions
Contests – In Progress
Contests – Completed
Challenges & Themes – Active
Practically without fail there is more traffic runs through these categories than any other on the message boards. About time then we thought to investigate this previously untapped source of potential headlines and see what all the fuss was about. Rhythm & News’ very own cheerleader STAT_SUEof_LYRICLY dipped her toe into the hidden depths of the SingSnap C’s - Contests and Challenges that is…
CRUISIN' THE 'C'S
by S T A T _ S U E o f _ L Y R I C L Y NEWS-TEAM
As my very talented editor Mick CLAIMS that I am SingSnap 's News Team CHEERLEADER and roving reporter, for this issue I CONSIDERED doing some CRUISING on my own.
Being a member of SingSnap CHIEFLY since its launch I realized that there are still so many CHOICES on our site that I have yet to CHECK out, so for this month’s Rhythm & News I took part in two CATEGORIES I had previously not ever used before; the first being Singing CHAT, the second a CHALLENGE/CONTEST.
SingSnap CHAT (Click the link)
I CHIMED into SingSnap CHAT on several occasions, different days at different times. There were many members, taking turns and having so much fun CHATTING, CAMMING and of course singing. Everyone CLAPPED with big C's when someone COMPLETED their song. I had the pleasure of speaking to one CHAT Admin in particular, M h e l l CHAT-ADMIN (Michel), who was so CUTE and funny when describing singing CHAT. Michel's own words:
"CHATROOM is for EVERYONE... Good singers, not so good singers. We all sing and have fun together; we all share the same passion... MUSIC!
"We are willing to help new users with Sound CHECKS if they have trouble. Everyone in here becomes CLOSE really fast and we treat each other like family. You see the same names and faces show up every day; I swear some people LIVE there!"
He told me that people have literally fallen asleep only to awake to their turn to sing and told to go to bed, and that weekends are more CROWDED than weekdays. CHAT Admin are there to keep order in the room, maintain a fair rotation of singers and to make sure everyone observes the rules. Sometimes it gets a bit CROCKED but basically it's a pretty COOL place to CHILL.
Well hey Michel I was new and was welcomed with open arms! It was fun I tell you and if I CHOSE to I too COULD be part of the family. Everyone is welcome, definitely worth trying.
SingSnap Subscription Prescription Contests
CONTINUING my journey into the CHALLENGE/CONTEST areas of the site (of which there are so many) I CHOSE to try one where you COULD actually win GOLD . This gave me the opportunity to meet
c i n d e r s 8 3 1 ADMIN (CINDY) and enter her latest SSSP CONTEST which stands for “SingSnap Subscription Prescription”. The venture originally started out as a onetime dry run for prizes and store gift CERTIFICATES (Remember the store?). What almost didn't work out wound up becoming COLOSSAL. CINDY was asked to CONTINUE the fun (SSSP Plus currently into its 15th run) because literally COUNTLESS members participated. CINDY needed help, more judges as this CONTEST grew. Winners get Gold and Special Banners made by her CHARMING S S S P _ C o _ H o s t e s s GOLD Tracy.
Tracy adores her CHORES, as well as CINDY and all of the CREATIVITY, CONTESTANTS and the entire CREW that makes the SSSP idea so successful.
At first the judges started out with CONSERVATIVE screen names but when one CHANGED it to a funny CRITTER type handle, this CHALLENGE really started booming. CINDY explains:
"We have humans, pigs, dogs, CATS, wolfs, puppets, witches, mice etc. as our judges. They are really a great bunch and do keep this CONTEST going! "We have features such as a CRITIQUES CORNER exclusive to SSSP CONTESTANTS and they can PM that account and get a fair CRITIQUE on their songs." (Is Simon COWELL on SingSnap ?)
I had the pleasure of CONVERSING with several of these judges. They all had me literally CRACKING up with laughter. Not only are they funny but they work hard and are CONTINUOUSLY updating each segment of this CONTEST.
There are too many to name and COUNT but way to go Cindy on CHOOSING these wonderful people that help you make this COMPETITION work. I never realized how much time, effort and hard work goes into these events.
I made it through Round 4 of this CONTEST and I honestly can’t wait to see what transpires! To be honest, CHATTING with the judges was just as fun for me as COMPETING.
HOW COULD YOU NOT WANT TO TRY THIS? THE CHANCE TO POSSIBLY WIN GOLD AND BE A PART OF THIS COMEDIC AND COURAGEOUS CAMRADERIE OF COOL, CREDIBLE, COLLABERATING CREATIVE CRITTERS.....and mostly have CABOODLES of fun!
My thanks to go to all of the staff and judges on the SSSP roster, of which there are many. To those I didn’t get around to talk to, I’m sorry that we ran out of time; to those I did, sincere gratitude for all your help:

This week was National Condom Week in the UK – seriously! Who THINKS of this stuff? They have a celebration or an observation for almost anything you can think of these days and yet at the same time the British government is considering a “scaling-down” of the memorials for D-Day; effectively the end of World War II.
A sad state of affairs when important historical landmark dates are considered less important than some made-up campaign for contraception. Does this happen a lot in other places we asked ourselves at News Team HQ? Should something be done to keep the fires burning for those who died for their (and your) freedom? One such example from Mexico in our opinion deserved a mention. Heaven knows, with the Swine Flu causing pandemic panic right now maybe the South American nation could do with being remembered for something different…
CINCO DE MAYO by
m a _ e l e n a GOLD
What is the Cinco de Mayo some of you may wonder? Is it Mexico's Independence Day celebration? No; Mexico began their quest for independence from Spain on September 16, 1810 but the Spanish Crown didn't recognize it until September 27, 1821, a decade after the war had begun.
The Cinco de Mayo (Fifth of May) actually commemorates the Mexican victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, where some 4,000 Mexicans including many poorly equipped Indians armed with nothing more than a machete helped the army defeat the invading French force of 7,000 soldiers. Some historians claim that Napoleon III's desire to occupy Mexico was fueled by his intense dislike for the United States and the Monroe Doctrine. (The Monroe Doctrine stated that the United States would oppose any European invasion into the Americas.) A French stronghold in Mexico would thwart the United States' growing power and strength. Napoleon III shrewdly banked on the fact that the United States, in the midst of its own civil war, would not interfere in the events in Mexico. Some have speculated that the defeat of this battle kept Napoleon III from supplying the confederate rebels for another year, allowing the United States to build the greatest army the world had ever seen. This grand army smashed the Confederates at Gettysburg just 14 months after the battle of Puebla, essentially ending the Civil War.
Could this then perhaps be another reason for Americans to commemorate this historical Mexican event? Cinco de Mayo is not a National Holiday in Mexico, it is commemorated with celebrations such as a re-enactment of the battle at Puebla, parades, also festivals that include food, national dress, music & dancing mostly, definitely in Puebla. In the US there are parades and food festivities also with music & Mexican dancing.
As I have seen the Cinco de Mayo evolve (never heard of it till I was in my 20's) I'd have to say that any action regarding this celebration really picked up steam in the late 1960's. So why not? Other National groups such as the Irish have St Patrick's Day, Chinese have their New Year, Germans Oktoberfest, African Americans have February as their Black History Month. It was more than overdue for Mexican Americans to also have a day to show their pride. The battle at Puebla on the Cinco de Mayo was not only unexpected, but gave the Mexicans a boost & pride that they could defeat a much better equipped French army to save their beloved country.
After Mexico's triumphant win against Spain for their independence, there were a few other battles, such as the Independence from Texas. The civil turmoil amongst their own dictators for power lead Mexico to be heavily indebted to England, Spain & France. In an attempt to collect on their loans, The French, English, & Spanish brought their troops. The Mexican government promised to repay to all, and while the Spanish & English left, Napoleon III, Emperor of France, believed the exiled Mexican conservatives who assured him that the Mexican populace would support a monarchy, and a strong religious state. Napoleon III intended to create an empire on Mexican soil. With his plans — and military — in place, he tapped a European prince, Archduke Maximilian of Austria, to rule his new North American satellite. (The Archduke also happened to be Napoleon's cousin.)
The French occupying forces placed Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico on the throne of Mexico in 1864. The French, under U.S. pressure, eventually withdrew in 1866-1867. Maximilian was deposed by President Benito Juarez and executed, five years after the Battle of Puebla. His wife Carlota went insane.
A little trivia... Archduke Maximilian was the younger brother of both Franz Joseph I of Austria and Archduke Charles Louis of Austria. After the death of his nephew Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria (1858-1889), Archduke Charles Louis became heir presumptive to Austro-Hungarian Empire but renounced his succession rights a few days later in favor of his eldest son Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination June 28, 1914 ignited the start of World War I.
Ever been to a live concert when the singer sounds COMPLETELY different to the album you bought of them? Okay, so studio quality is a different environment and allowances should be made, but where did all those bum notes come from? Fact is, they were probably always there, except in the studio there are gadgets and gizmos to smooth it all with no effort at all, much to the delight of the artist (and no doubt the relief of the singer’s manager and agent and merchandising company and PR officer and touring organisers and global fanbase etc…).
Following the huge success of SingSnap ’s all new “Make Me Sound Better” function Rhythm & News delved further into the clandestine world of audio augmentation…
AUTO-TUNE IMPACT
by
b i p o l a r b e t t y
Who here has ever had those moments when you’re singing away, having a ball, just really letting loose belting out one of your favorite tunes, and you hit that, uh, shall we say "special" note, and you just know somewhere coyotes are baying and cats are howling?
I'll raise my hand, ME! I have those moments all the time! We all want to sing like our favorite recording stars and get that feeling of reliving those musical moments from the original recording, but do you ever wonder if professional recording artists have those oh so special ear bleeding paint peeling moments as often as we do? They sound so perfect on those Grammy winning records, but how do they do it? The answer to that is, they take advantage of a new technology called “Auto Tune”, those rich little fakers!
It is abundantly clear that professional studio musicians and amateurs alike are taking advantage of this new device all the time. Here's the lowdown: It is a proprietary audio processor that uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances; which is all just a fancy-shmancy way of saying a thingamajig that makes your pitchy voice go bye-bye. Unlike a "pitch changer" which alters the key of the music track you’re singing to, the Auto Tune is used to disguise inaccuracies and mistakes coming from the voice itself, and has allowed many artists to produce more precisely tuned recordings. In fact, most singers now presume that when in a recording studio, the recording engineer will just run their voice through the magic Auto Tune box.
Again, I'll say it, what a bunch of fakes. If you want my opinion on this, I must say that using the "pitch changer" on the mixer here on SingSnap , a really handy Gold member feature, is just what you need to help you reach those notes up or down. Not only that, but I find that even if the end result is slightly pitchy, I enjoy the imperfections solely because I value the process of singing just for the joy of it without worrying about sounding pitch-perfect. I don't WANT to sound exactly like the original artist, and let’s be honest, none of us ever will. So sing like a true SingSnap per and go au naturale. That is truly being an "original" and that's why I'm happy to let the pros turn themselves into recording robots, because here at SingSnap , we are still the real deal. They should award a Grammy for that!
Okay so we’re back to that Mother’s Day “AAAAAGGGHHH!” moment. It’s early Sunday morning and you woke yourself up in unbridled panic, aware that toast and tea simply won’t do. If you’re a man it makes matters worse because the oven is just this mystical something you see your mum’s hands in when you’re hungry, but you think you might be able to grasp the concept behind the heated rings on the top. Hopefully this very simple recipe then might just save your bacon…
RECIPE; LAZY CHURROS by
m a _ e l e n a GOLD
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 8 inch flour tortillas
Method:
Cut tortilla into 4 strips, then cross wise, cutting the 2 ends in half.
Add to frying pan with a thin layer of cooking oil, turning over once, lightly brown each chip. Place chips on paper towel for any oil absorption. While still warm I like to place chips in a paper bag with the sugar & cinnamon mixture, then giving it a good shake.
You may enjoy your cinnamon crisps, with a cup of hot Mexican chocolate. I perfer Abuelita brand.
Prepare Abuelita hot chocolate by bringing a saucepan of milk (or water, not my choice) to a boil, add the tablet of chocolate and stir continuously with a whisk, or molinillo until disolved and frothy or creamy.
Enjoy!
I found this other method, but haven't tried it. I believe this might work out better for children.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 8 inch flour tortillas
6 tablespoons butter, melted
Method:
In a small bowl combine sugar and cinnamon, set aside.
Brush tortillas with melted butter. Cut each into 8 wedges.
Arrange in single layer on baking sheet. Lightly sprinkle cinnamon mixture over.
Bake in preheated 400F oven for 4 to 6 minutes.
Can be made ahead and keep in air tight container.
We have quite a few wannabe graphic artists out there in SingSnap by the looks of so many attempts by the community to beautify their profiles and recording pages. I’m not referring to the generic glitter graphic “WTG!” bombs unceremoniously dropped into recording comments, which in turn mess up the code for the rest of the page. No, I mean the profile pages that contain loving care and attention in their production, and the News Team decided that it was about time these virtual artisans were rewarded for their troubles…
PAGE DECORATION
by n o e l s g r a n d p a NEWS-TEAM
Oh WOW, another SingSnap newsletter contest.
Help us to acknowledge those who have worked so hard to beautify their SingSnap homes. Not being content to live in the drab little abodes provided by SingSnap when they moved in many of our fellow Snappers have gone to great lengths to make their profiles uniquely theirs. Some chose to reflect their personality, some their favourite theme and others just an abstract vision. Some are whimsical, some inspirational and some purely abstract. Whatever the logic, whatever the design, these people have manage to make a statement on their profile pages.
The ability to make these changes to the original format of the pages comes from the ability to override the pages existing Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). These sheets provide the code used to place the various components of the page in position, the ability to add graphics and the ability to modify the color, font and size of the text. Next month we will provide a tutorial to open the world of design up to all of those who would like to personalize their pages.
This contest will run for till June 1st, 2009 and the 1st place and 2nd place winners as determined by your votes, will be announced in the June newsletter. Prizes to be awarded are 2 months Gold for the winner and 1 month Gold for runner up
This contest is to determine the most popular SingSnap profile page designs, as determined by you, the SingSnap community. Please vote for your favourite profile page by sending your entries to the News_Team PM box here . Be sure to inclure the URL or link to the page. The winners will be the owners of the profile pages that receive the most votes. You will only be allowed to vote once for any individual page but you may vote again for as many pages as you wish. Members of the news team are ineligible to participate in this contest and any pages designed by news team members that receive votes, will be not be included in this contest.
Good Luck
Here are a few quick screen shots of things you can do modifying the CSS code....
It is said that statistically everyone in the civilized world will meet somebody famous at least once in their life. With the level of media coverage in our everyday existence these days it’s probably harder to avoid bumping into a “celeb”, unless you live up in a cave in Scotland somewhere (just keeping it friendly with our Celtic brethren there).
Statistics of course can be misconstrued, especially when that Diana Ross you keep namedropping happens also to be the name of the checkout girl at your local supermarket, or that guy fixing the telephone lines outside your house might only LOOK like him who used to be on “The Young And The Restless”.
Or is it actually them!?
FAMOUS NAMES
by
d i v i n e d i v a u k GOLD
As Kirsty MacColl once sang..."There's a guy works down the chip shop, swears he's Elvis"...
Have you come across something similar? Maybe not Elvis working in a chip shop, but what about someone with a famous name and less glamorous job?
The News Team discussed this and had some stories to tell...
d i v i n e d i v a u k GOLD met Ricky Martin! Sadly though, instead of the Latin lover, he turned out to be a middle aged psychic medium from Glasgow, Scotland. She also lives across the street from John Barrowman (Scottish pensioner, not camp Scottish/American entertainer)
The editor, R E A L L Y M A D NEWS-TEAM , works in an electrical building design office, and sits directly opposite his workmate, Don Williams. There was a call came through once…
“Hello I’d like to speak to Charlie please”
“Charlie who? We don’t have a Charlie here.”
“Yes you do I spoke to him yesterday. Country singer’s name I think… Charlie Rich! That’s it!”
“No sorry. Nobody here by that name.”
Hmmm… oh I know, heh heh. Silly me. I meant Kenny of course.”
“Kenny?”
“Yeah. Kenny Rogers!”
m a _ e l e n a GOLD went to school with none other than Kenny Rogers... nope, still not that one…
I'm sure you'll all have been in contact with many people with famous names. Did you ever see a real celebrity somewhere that you least expected? What about mistaken identity? Ever accidentally ask the completely wrong person for an autograph? Maybe YOU have a famous name! If so, PM the News_Team and tell us your stories. We might just publish the funniest in the next edition of Rhythm & News and give you a little something for your trouble.
What better way to keep your senses sharp and alert than giving your brain some exercise? A healthy mind is a happy mind so we keep getting told, and happy people are much more inclined to sing than miserable folks, although anyone listening to MY recordings might move from one state to the other in no time at all. Anyway, since SingSnap wants to keep you singing as much as possible here’s a puzzle to keep the creative juices flowing. No cheating!
Sudoku
by S T A T _ S U E o f _ L Y R I C L Y NEWS-TEAM
We’re giving away more Gold this month to the person with the fastest finishing time on this puzzle. To those new to Sudoku, don’t be scared. The rules are simple. This is how it works:
Each game starts with given numbers placed in different boxes.
Complete the puzzle by filling out the rest of the boxes with numbers.
Make sure that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the numbers 1 through 9 without repeating any of them!
Game Controls: Click a box in the grid and select any of the numbers 1-9 or the "x" to clear the box or cancel your input.
Enable the "Pencil Marks" feature to mark numbers that could go in a box. This should help you solve the puzzle!
Contest Rules:
1. For the one month’s Gold subscription prize you must complete a puzzle at NORMAL level in the shortest possible time. The contest will be open until the end of 31st May.
2. The puzzle has hints and pencil marks controls; you are allowed to use these features in the Contest.
3. Once completed you must save a screenshot of the puzzle. This will confirm to us that the level of puzzle you used was NORMAL and the time you achieved. The screenshot must be shown or linked to in a PM to the News_Team account. If you are uncertain how to do this please contact either our SingSnap Nerd Squad representative S p a n k y RECORDING-SUPPORT or n o e l s g r a n d p a NEWS-TEAM .
4. There is ONE winner, who will be announced in the next edition of Rhythm & News. The judge’s decision (News Team) will be final. Good luck!
Congratulations to all you lucky people who took the time and won Gold membership from the competitions we held in Rhythm & News edition #5. Just think, if you try hard enough theoretically you could win something every month and Gold membership wouldn’t cost you a penny!
As usual you are more than welcome to donate your prizes to the person of your choice if you are already paid up yourself, or even include it in the SingSnap donation scheme.
LAST MONTH'S WINNERS
And finally, we’re dishing out the prizes from all the contests featured in the previous edition of Rhythm & News. Yes, that’s right; the long wait is over!
SingSnap is proud of the community it has created, and rightly so. Your continued interest in the newsletter makes the hours we toil over it that much more worthwhile, so thank you to everybody who took part in our little competitions. If you didn’t win this time around please keep trying. Next time it could be you!
ARE YOU A POET AND DIDN’T KNOW IT?
An unbelievable response to our poetry contest; into the hundreds, making this our most successful competition by a long long way! As you can imagine the judging took a lot of time and effort and it was a VERY tough decision. We have included poems that we felt deserve special mention but in the end the three winners came in, all as follows:

3RD PLACE – WINNING 1 MONTH GOLD :

Is This You?
We rush here, and we rush there !
chasing a dream, daring a dare !
This world's got us caught up, running around,
chasing a fantasy, keeping us bound.
Bound up in shackles, of life's luxuries,
making us slaves of things so temporary !
When do we stop to realize,
that life's more than this,
and all we have to do, is look inside!
And begin to work on the things that count,
A loving heart, a warm embrace,
a smile that goes around
So where do we start and with who?
I'd say the time is NOW
and the person is YOU !
2ND PLACE – WINNING 2 MONTHS GOLD :
l i t t l e l e p r e c h a u n GOLD
Growing Old
I often wander in my mind to the place where i was born
And think again with pleasure of a sunny summer morn
Fields of green with daisies white and hedges of blackthorn
Spending time with family i no longer have to mourn.
Returning to the present time, life seems so dark and cold
Those summer days, fading now, i wish that i could hold
Not knowing in those days of youth, for it was never told
That only memories are left, in the years of growing old.
1ST PLACE – WINNING 3 MONTHS GOLD :
w a l k i n g s t i c k GOLD
Untitled Poem
Before that last confusion
and after the first rush of feeling through my core
knowing your desire for me . . .
I stood in the kitchen door way
breathing in the fresh evening air.
A little red-breasted nuthatch flew
right onto the suet feeder
just a foot from my face.
I could see individual brush-strokes of feathers
and the suet in its wee beak
At the point when I thought
how easy it would be to reach out and hold him
it was as if he read my mind
He stopped feeding
warily scanning the area for danger
for what seemed like forever...
I let my thoughts flow kindly
over this soft and wild creature ...
did he sense my intent then?
for he went back to feeding
When finally he flew away,
I could feel a stir of air on my face
the trailing breath
of his retreating wings.
EXTREME SINGSNAP
Running very close behind the poetry contest (ahem) is Extreme SingSnap, where you were invited to send your pics of SingSnap people and events in unusual places. It occurred to us though that perhaps the message didn’t come across clearly enough that the photos had to be REAL and not just photoshopped creations.
Anyway, the winner of the 1 month Gold subscription this time around is C h e e k y l i l v i x e n PATRON who bravely fought off her own fears and snapped herself on the back of a motorbike cruiser doing 85 mph with the SingSnap logo taped to her safety helmet!
We’re thinking of retaining the contest what with the summer coming up so keep sending the photos to the News_Team PM box under the title EXTREME SINGSNAP. Best of luck for next month.
EASTER EGGS
Here sits a slightly disgruntled Editor, who was secure in his own mind that hiding a couple of April Fool’s Day fibs in the newsletter to find like Easter eggs was all jolly clever and would be a big hit with the readers. Unfortunately that proved to be not the case so unfortunately the prize was unclaimed and I was laughed out of the News Team office. Sigh.
Anyway, for those who are interested these were the answers:
1 – News In Brief story (Per invents new colour)
The entire story was of course one big spoof – how on earth can you “invent” a new colour?
2 – News In Brief story (There’s talk around)
The new features towards the end of the article were all made up, although one of them does mention software designed to correct your flat notes. A little like the new MMSB perhaps? Spooky!
3 – The Nursing Notes (The blurb, which is the intro in the left margin)
We mentioned a man in his underwear getting arrested on cam in a recording – to our knowledge no such recording has ever existed.
4 – Extreme SingSnap (Introduction)
We mentioned other activities such as Extreme Ironing, Extreme Cello and Extreme Freefall Pancake Tossing. That last one we made up, but amazingly the other two ARE real!
5 - So What Do You Actually Do Anyway (question on Trev’s interview)
“Per lives in Denmark. Bit of a distance from you. How did you meet?”
Per actually lives in Sweden.
So there you are. I shall now go console myself with a few beers comforted by the knowledge that at least some people DID make the attempt. Ah well. Cheers everyone, have a great May!
