Each time you replace a meat meal with a vegetarian one, you save at least 2.5 pounds of greenhouse gasses and 238 gallons of water!!! And that is just ONE meal out of the 21 meals you eat each week. That would mean each week you'd save 52.5 pounds of greenhouse gasses and 4998 gallons of water by eating vegetarian meals. This does not include snacks and munchies! And to think just ONE person can save this much!!
You know how you just leave water running while brushing your teeth, wiping the kitchen counter, rinsing sponge, wiping, etc? I put one of those party sized ice cream gallon containers under the faucet to catch the water. In not time the water was spilling over into the sink and down the drain! That excess could water plants, gardens, wash dog bowls, etc.
As far as water goes, two-fifths of the world's people face serious water shortages, a billion have no access to safe drinking water and people in rich countries use 10 times more water than those in poor ones. Keeping your shower under five minutes saves a 1000 gallons of water a month conserving not only H2O but the energy needed to heat it.
$$$$ Take just one less car trip per week and you'll keep about 31 pounds of CO2 out of the atmosphere. Yeah, I miss those Sunday drives, too! At this point, my car costs about $55.00 to fill!! I am EXTREMELY BLESSED to live within 2 miles of most everything!
