The Von Flamig Family

The dates and names and places have been changed to protect the not so innocent,,, lmao....

I just love the movie, "The Sound of Music"... Why? you might be asking?.....Its kind of like my family... except for the names and places.. our story would be the same one... I am I said,,, oppss, was thinking of Neil Diamond's song.... lmao

As most of you have gathered by now,, I come from a large family,, never was a dull moment around us.....we played games,, we played sports,, we wrote plays and skits,, and acted them out.. we played house,, but all thats for other stories,,,,

Tonites episode is about music.....

I just love music,, being it listening on the radio,,, or my surround sound system or on the computer,, or in the chat rooms....or particapating in the music by playing an instrument or singing....

My love for music started at a very young age,, Us kids grew us listening to all the old stuff,,, Marty Robbins,,, George Jones,, Jim Reeves.. Hank Snow and Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn,, Tammy Wynette..Elvis ,, of course..Roger Miller,, Johnny Horton,, Herb Albert,.. and countless others...My mother had all the albums and the stereo,, and since tv reception wasnt all that great in the early to mid sixties,, we listened to the records,, over and over and over...lol

Of course, as most young children do,, we all had to take piano lessons...my sister played very well and keep up the lessons,, but us boys,, being boys, soon grew bored with piano,, and found other things to do...lol....Of course that didnt last long.....

My most favorite memories of my youth,, is ,, sis would start playing something on the piano,,, mom would hear and come in and start playing the organ,,, I must add here,, My mother was very good organist,, and she too,, came from a very musical family.. she would always end up being the Church organist,, where ever we ended up going to,, ( we moved around alot).. ( another story hehehe ).. and soon us kids would gather around and start singing,, all 7 of us,, the oldest sister was already off on her own...

Sometimes the sing fest would last for hours,, or until sis ran out of music to play or we would lose our voices....lol..... soon us kids started learning to play instruments to play along with sis on the piano and mom on the organ...be it either,,drums,, guitar,, trumpet, whatever....

Now our house at that time was like grand central station,, kids coming and going constantly.... so naturally even our friends,, would be joining in the music fests we had.. mostly using guitars....and as we grew older, were usually involved with music at school,, I remember my oldest brother singing his first solo. at a PTA meeting,, in front of everyone,,, I always admired him for that,, but I was too chicken to do that...

But I do remember my first solo singing performance,, lmao,,, was in first grade,, I got up in front of the class and sang at the top of my lungs.. a song ( actually a spoof) performed by Homer and Jethro.. ask me sometime to play some of their music in the room,, most are hilarious...lmao I think that kind of set the stage for my future...lmao

Anyway.. back to my story.... whenever the PTA people needed some entertainment for a meeting,, they would call us,, and mom would volunteer either one of us,, or all of us to do something,, sometimes we hated it,, but like in the old days, had no choice in the matter.. we didnt like that evil eye ,, mother would give us..lmao

As time went by,, our playing of music progress to where each of us had our own instrutments to play. and we started jamming out in our basement. with our own band... WE called ourselves,, The Flamig Basement Boogie Band... lmao.. but we were quite good,, had drums.. piano,,, lead guitar,, rhythem guitar,, bass guitar.. trumpet and took turns singing.. Some people wanted us to start performing gigs at local clubs,, etc.... but we never did,, we had more fun... playing in our basement and laughing our heads off.

My brother recently let the rest of know,, that he actually had a old movie clip of us,, playing.... is hilarious,, but I havent seen it yet.. I wasnt in the clip as by then I had already flew the coop,, and was on my own.. But I had done my share of singing and playing before then.

In looking back,, 30 some years later,, I often wonder,, what would have we become, had we decided to "hit the road" with our music... would we have made it? or been one timers?.. or gotten involved in the drug scene and bombed out? would we have become famous,,and be still playing.,.. I guess we will never know,, but in our hearts,.. at the time and even now,, we Had Made it... the memories and laughter and good music we created, will be with us for our life time......

Update of the family,,, most of us are still involved in music... several of us still sing.. one younger brother,, plays the fiddle now, along with his wife,, for a contra dance band,, more on that another time... another brother still plays the guitar,, one sister still plays piano for Church serives,, some sing quite regularly in Church, and I still sing,, some ..lol actually I love to sing,, as the years have went by,, my love of singing as grown..

And here I am on Singsnap !!!!

here is a poem I wrote one dark and dreary day

Darkness

Dark clouds scurrying through my mind
Despairing thoughts of the same kind
Seeking for the love that can bind
No encouraging words I find.

Restless dreams of my sleep
Troubling my soul from within deep
Your laughter I want to keep
Darkness surrounds me does creep.

Buzzing sounds ring through my ears
The worst I have felt in many years
Realizing my greatest fears
Spilling from my face wet tears.

Crawling deep into my cave
Enveloping wings I am slave
All the love and care I gave
Quietly slips far, far away.

Closing my tired wet eyes
My heavy heart does sigh
No longer riding the cosmic high
I give to all, my final goodbye.
