My Profile...

Listening to, and making music, have been life-long pursuits. My interests span most musical genres and my experiences include voice, piano, trumpet, band, jazz band, choir, composing, performing and home studio recording. You may have noticed that Karaoke is not on this list.

Prior to SingSnap I had no interest in Karaoke. Frankly, I don't think of what we do here on SingSnap as Karaoke, which I associate with many unpleasant aspects of the bar scene, especially the smoke, the noise and the poor acoustics. As for home karaoke systems, the last thing I want is yet more audio equipment and another set of CDs to manage. Happily those problems don't exist here.

What does exist here, is a tremendously talented and diverse community of people who share a genuine passion for music. I wish I could do a better job describing how wonderful it is to discover new friends around the world, who share this passion. Even as an active member for more than a year, I still marvel at the encouragement, humor and warmth this community offers.

On a personal level, I'm married a wonderful woman who, while not a singer herself, is also a great source of encouragement and inspiration. Her creative talent lies in making the world a more beautiful place. As an Interior Decoration & Design consultant she has most certainly decorated my life. I also have an awesome 24 year old son who makes me proud every day, and extraordinary family and friends.

Finally, I'd like to share one of my favorite quotes, which comes from Frank Zappa's Packard Goose... "Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST..." Music truly is the best! Thanks for sharing it!

My Recording Environment...

I use a Neumann KMS 105 microphone running through a dbx tube preamp into the microphone jack on my Yamaha PSR 9000 synthesizer. The output of that goes to the line in port on my Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS card in my Dell Dimension 8300. The tube preamp warms and rounds off my voice. The sound balance is managed by recording multiple times and adjusting the Wave and Line In volume sliders in Windows and also the Music and Recording volumes in SingSnap. I may add a standalone mixer at some point. But for now, the only thing special about my setup is that I've got a high quality microphone/tube pre-amp and a good pair of ears.
