The first time I did karaoke, I thought it would be my last time. A co-worker and I were extremely drunk, and she decided to sign us up for a song. The song was Tanya Tucker's "Delta Dawn." I'd never heard the song. Needless to say, there wasn't much singing. We mostly laughed and fell all over each other. I was so embarrassed, I swore I would never do karaoke again.
About three years ago, I was once again with co-workers at a local bar. There just happened to be karaoke. A few of them decided to fill out a slip with my name on it and gave it to the KJ. When my name was called, I refused. Two of them said they would sing with me, but on the way to the stage, one backed out. The other thought she could get away with just lip-syncing. When the music began, and I started singing, her mouth fell open and she exclaimed, "My God, you can sing!" I replied, "Yeah, it surprises me, too. Now, sing bitch." The song was Matchbox 20's "Bright Lights."
Now, not only do I sing karaoke, but I've entered a few singing competitions and run my own karaoke/DJ business -- Karaoke Mojo. I'm known more for singing rock and blues, but have incorporated music from all genres. I love this site, as it gives me the opportunity to display my talent (if that's what you want to call it) and to enjoy the gifted voices of many others. Thanks for getting me involved in this, Vic.
