Hmm..I haven't whined for awhile. I gotta take care of that!
So here goes: There are long stressful, detail-filled days where I just want to come home, change into sweats or jammies (if I was a good girl and did my laundry, that is) log in to snap and find a feature song and sing, losing myself in the words and melodies and putting the harsh day behind me... ....................................................................

ha. If only it was that simple. Today the feature category, like so many other days, is rife with great songs...but I don't know them! So I go to youtube to check out the original version and it's just overwhelming...In most cases: The melody is too complicated with too many subtle variations to it throughout the verse...and then there's the pesky bridge. Just when you get used to the verses and the choruses, they throw in a bridge that strays so far from the melody that it may as well be in another song...If you know me at all, you know it takes me HOURS to rehearse and finally make a recording of a song the way I like...Such challenges are fine for a Saturday afternoon when I've got time and renewed energy...but nights like now, when I'm mentally exhausted but I need to sing...when everything in me cries out for the solace of expression...I regret all those times I had the opportunity to learn a song (when I had the passing thought:"I wanna learn that!") but out of laziness, I took the easy path and did something else. So I sigh. And sign off...postponing the joy and pleasure I could really use right now. Tomorrow IS Saturday, though!

US Flag flying at half-mast

Let us be more vigilant

Humpday, 4 November 2009

Surfacing to sing a little bit and listen a little bit before I submerge in the flood of work 'they' got me doing. But it's flex time! So I get some extra days off...someday.... :-) Hope I didn't sound silly and pretentious down there in previous post. I mean it probably all goes without saying anyway, right?

What draws me in to people's recordings. If you have one or all of the following, I'm your fan :-) (I'll apply html list code later) Technical skill, musicianship, Expressiveness, The ability to stay in tune, Vocal Quality, Spirit...oftentimes indefinable, Fun, Snazzy, snappy, swingin', stylin'; Captures the essence of the song

What turns me off: Too much reverb!!!! For goodness sake, tone it down, because it makes good vocalists sound awful! If you want to make echos, go to an echo canyon. Just sayin. Spamming.

Wish we did stuff like this in my office. It would relieve stress for all the sad news days*

As promised:

Something about me (subject to edits and revisions as the mood strikes me)

I grew up in a houseful of singing people. So it was natural to join choirs and talent shows at school. Consequently, since it was a "just a pastime," none of us ever got praise, direction or support. For a very long time I stopped singing altogether. Too much smoking, too much "other stuff' got in the way. Long story short: Later in life, after quitting smoking I found my voice again, so I tried out for my church's praise and worship team which renewed my love for the gift that God graciously bestowed. Eventually discovered online Karaoke. Ahhhh Technology!

I live: near Puget Sound in WA
I work: at The ALS Association
Other loves besides singing: The Great Outdoors, Photography, Staring at the sky, Reading (mostly online. Books are so 20th century ;-) ) Politics, (I am a fiscal conservative/libertarian)The Movies, Walking...to name a few.
Lately I've been: fixated on television (I don't own a tv, so I watch online)Favorite TV Shows: The Good Wife, Stargate Universe, Castle (to get my Nathan Fillion fix, because I miss Firefly!)Fringe, Breaking Bad...to name a few.
I can't live without: humor, a room with a view.
I can live without: mean people. people who complain about EVERYTHING
I openly admit to having faults three of which I will name: whining about my Singsnap recordings; tending to let my life get out-of-balance; letting my job get to me

Speaking of Nathan Fillion and getting my Firefly fix! This is amusing:
