I'm on the Alabama Gulf Coast where Mobile Bay meets the Ocean. It's the birthplace of Jimmy Buffett and Mardi Gras (yes Mardi Gras was celebrated here for years before New Orleans discovered it and made it into a tourist event). Our primary dietary staple is fresh Gulf Seafood and the average year-round temperature is 72 degrees. Some people call this the "Redneck Riviera". The locals call it Paradise. Call me Phil.
This site is absolutely the best thing to ever happen to karaoke. After years of midis, this is heaven!!! I like the duets but cant seem to start them off. I love to join in and harmonize but find it difficult unless someone has already set the pace. Or, maybe I am just lazy and need to be inspired by someone. You kick it off, however, and I will jump right in there with ya. My musical experience has always consisted of providing background for others to sing. I played snare drums from 5th Grade to graduation. Then went on to join various Rock and Country bands playing drums and occassionally a little piano or bass, if needed. I was limited to playing instruments a left handed person can play. Drums were easiest because you can put them around where you want them, but playing a guitar upside down didn't interest me, because even then your downbeat has to be an upstroke. lol. Played Clubs and Grand Openings, Sound Studios and Baseball Parks from Miami to Los Angeles. Mostly along the Central Gulf Coast though. From Mobile to New Orleans. Played in a Cajun Band for a long time in South Louisiana, probably my favorite gig. I worked with some Great Singers from 1963 till 1983, tried to make them sound as good as I could, never singing a note myself. I knew I couldn't sing in their league, so I just kept my mouth shut and gave them a solid rhythm. People talk about performers abusing drugs and alcohol. Those are just tools they use to help them wind and unwind. The real drug in the music world is the roar of screaming fans calling your name. THAT is an addictive feeling like no other. Now I am retired and since discovering online karaoke, I can sing my heart out and the simple fact that I can't sing a note doesn't get in the way. I started singing karaoke online last year in the Paltalk chatrooms and I still take my music there to share with other singers, many of them from Singsnap too. So if you sing with me, you might hear yourself there also. The two sites are so intertwined now I can hardly remember one without the other anymore. Ok, well I'm gonna try to do some first duets and hope I can find out how to put links to them here. I see others doing that, maybe I will get lucky and find out how they do it. - Update: 11/19/07 - Well, I'm back and I finally figured out how to make those links to my duets on this page. You have to go to someone else's page that has them and then click "view source" and do what is in there. It the little "embed" thingy and you have to be really careful to put links between the "s. LOL Wow this really put a strain on the bear's brain trying to figure it out. Don't try this at home. Ha Ha.
