auroral's Profile
auroral's real name is David Henry. David is 57 years old, is located in United Kingdom and has been a SingSnap member since January 16, 2007. So far he has made a total of 642 recordings.
Well, folks, I recently clocked up my 600th recording on SingSnap, so I reckon we need some changes here on the profile! Like, for instance, I can hardly keep saying I am 'new to online singing'......smile... I CAN say I am enjoying it all more and more, and finding great new songs and people on this amazing music community!
Something about me: I am a 50-something guy who lives in the city of Aberdeen (the original Aberdeen, that is - there are at least 30 other Aberdeens named after it worldwide!) Check out our 24-Hour Webcams at: The Harbour OR Union Street OR The Castlegate)
I just started singing a couple of years ago, and took this up more as therapy than anything else....and I can tell you it works......smile...
My interests are many and varied. I am a published writer - mainly of poems - I am a member of The Spring Tides Poetry Group and also The Poetry Society. I love Nature and Wildlife and Photography. I am a keen Beachcomber and collector of Sea Glass (Mermaid's Tears, we call them). I have a passion for Clouds and Weather - I am a member of The Cloud Appreciation Society! I am also a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, and a member of The Radio Society of Great Britain.
On SingSnap I use a Samson Q7 dynamic microphone (hand-held, plus clip-on pop-guard) fed through an ARTcessories MicroMix Preamp into a Creative Sound Blaster SB-Live 24-Bit External USB sound card. Also a pair of Sennheiser PX 100 headphones. Video capture (when used) is via a Logitech Quickcam Fusion
By the way, I chose the SingSnap screen name of
Auroral
A million billion unseen fingers -
stretch out from our fiery Sun
brushing past the outer margins
on their way to infinity.
Arousing clouds of sleeping atoms,
plucking field-lines into motion
like harp-strings in the sky -
transforming our protective shield
into a wrap-around cinema screen
alive with orchestrations of light.
Chord progressions dance curvaceous,
cavorting with the velvet dark
rainbow pizzicatos tingle
senses into life.
Subtle disturbances of the ordinary
bring about this mysterious beauty
at the celestial artist's touch.

Re-Windings
Rooting around in a dusty attic -
searching for something I once laid down
it seems like just a moment ago.
Flicking through some old cassette-tapes
tossed in a crumpled cardboard box.
You know the one I pushed to the back
but never could quite throw away?
Starting to hum those songs again
from college days - the seventies
that keep going round in my head.
With Walkman on, I'm grazing albums
memory primed by the smudges and scribbles
stains of cigarettes, coffee and wine.
Feeling my way through the miles of music
looking for traces of shoreline walks -
flecks of red wool that were left on wire fences.
The sound seems kind of muffled now
and yet the wounds are strangely fresh -
deep-etched impressions of stubbed-out love.
Those tracks said it all for me
with all my insecurities -
rainbows that shone on monochrome bed-sits
just the right words - I could never find.
