My personal Karaoke philosophy: (and it's what I try to follow...not saying anyone else has to!!)

1. Listen, leave comments, without expecting reciprocation, but be grateful if someone does take the time.
2. Most singers work hard on their music right up to the end of the song, so pay them the respect of listening to the entire thing.
3. Leave kind, supportive comments. Be sincere as much as possible without...er...exaggerating.
4. Reserve superlative words for superlative recordings.
5. When singing, don't record belching, burping, sneezing, sniffling, and other weird bodily sounds.
6. Sing your best, as if there was no tomorrow. As if it might be the last thing you left behind...
7. Don't complain about people leaving graphics. Some people can't think of things to say or are just better with pictures...
8. UPDATED (23 June) Cut and pasters will be accepted by me if I already know them and like them. If you're a cut and paster and I've hugged you...then you know that I love ya...and believe you to be a sincere person! I give NEW cut & pasters THREE chances to somehow prove their sincerity. After the third cut & paste, I block. WHY? Because I just spent three minutes listening to a song by someone who didn't give me the same respect and who probably didn't even spend the several seconds waiting for the score thingie to drop down. That's why. Have a nice day :-) 9. Try to make all the stars glow orange.

One thought I had, was to check out someone's song that got less listens then the current song...

I guess what these suggestions all boil down to is the golden rule;treat people the way you would like to be treated; with dignity, honesty, respect and encouragement :-)

Some suggestions for #10 from others:

  • Learn the proper lyrics
  • Heck, while you're at it, learn the song!
  • Sing from your heart

My brief bio

(subject to additions, amendments, hasty removal, because after reading it later, I'll feel awkward and embarassed that I posted something overly personal. If you've stopped by here with any sort of frequency, you're probably used to this quirk by now!)

I love to sing...obviously :-)

And I'll sing practically anything. I try not to get stuck in specific genre's and, at least in my non-singing life, I try to keep up with current music...I believe getting stuck in the music of the past turns you into an old-fogey.

I love to be out in and observe nature, therefore I'm a camper and a hiker and a walker and a photographer....Though I haven't done much of that in a long while...
After taking a course in sailing a couple of summers ago, I long to get back out doing that. What an experience! Skimming through the water, with no sound but the wind in the sails (and in your ears) and the changing music of the water :varying from gentle lapping, to the loud whooshing of waves.

I have two grown children whom I believed I raised to be kind-hearted, caring people. My son is the kind of young man who immediately stops to help stranded people. My daughter is a champion of justice for the underdog. And bless their hearts, neither one of them is close to giving me grandchildren. (Knock on wood)

I live in Washington state and though I wasn't born here, I've lived here long enough to be thoroughly naturalized. It would take some mighty powerful incentive to pry me away...

I'm single and except for the occasional and normal bout of self-pity and loneliness, I love my solitude and the ability to come and go and do as I please. I used to be depressed and if I don't take care of myself and do the things I love, I tend to drift that way....Singsnap has been a boon in that regard. Singing is a gift and if we who love to sing, don't express it, it shuts us down in other areas of our lives. I believe this to be true for any talent. Math whizzes need to calculate. Carpenters need to hammer! Farmers need to farm! Politicians need to suck up and make empty speeches! Lawyers need to lie and swindle clients! Kidders need to kid! ;-)
