Frequently Asked Questions
Check out this page for some quick answers to the most common questions we get here at SingSnap. If you can't find what you're looking for you can also visit the message board or send a message to SingSnap Support.
General
- Can I change my screen name?
We will only allow screen names to be changed in the event of a security or abuse problem otherwise people would be quite confused on the site by all the screen names being changed :)
- Can you close my account?
There have been members in the past that have requested to be removed from the site, then days later would come back and ask for their account to be reinstated and their recordings put back up. For this reason we ask that you set all your recordings to private and turn off all email notifications. Then let us know when this has been done and we will disable further logins to your account.
- How do I flag a member/artist/song?
To flag a member, song, or artist you must be viewing a song first. As the song is playing you will see on the right of where it says song, member, and artist a little flag for each heading. This will allow you to set this as your favorite, to uncheck it click again.
- How does the rating system work?
There are many factors used to calculate the rating system. At this time SingSnap has chosen to keep these factors confidential. Even though we are confident that the rating system is fair to all, we are actively working to make it better. The best way to improve your ratings is to comment and rate the songs of other members. When doing so these people will come back and rate and comment on your songs.
- I am being stalked or harassed by another member, what should I do?
If you feel that a person is stalking you, making threats, or any other illegal action, you should take yourself out of danger. You should do this by contacting us to change your passwords, avoid using the site or avoid making public communication on the site (including recordings, comments, chat or PM.) Your safety is the first order of importance, and avoidance is the best defense against Internet crime and bullying. If you feel laws have been broken in your jurisdiction, you should contact your local police force. We will not do this on your behalf.
If we see members abusing the system or other members via direct communication, we will at our discretion, remove them from the site. However, we are not in the business of passing judgment, therefore if you do not remove yourself from danger by avoidance, you are contributing to the problem, and we will have no option but to remove all parties involved. This underscores the importance of avoidance in such cases.
- I can't login to the site, what can I do to fix it?
- You could be getting knocked off because the web browser you're using is set to not allow Internet cookies. In this case, you should reduce the security level to normal in your browser.
- The Internet cookie from SingSnap could be corrupt. In this case you should delete the Internet cookies and log back into the site. You can find out how to delete Internet cookies on this page
- You can also try a different browser. If you don't already use Firefox you can download it from here.
- I deleted my recordings, can I get them back?
Sorry, once a recording is deleted it is gone permanently. Sing it again, I'm sure the second attempt will be even better :)
- What are "Licensing Restrictions" and why are some songs missing?
SingSnap is proud to maintain legal agreements with all parties involved in the music publishing and recording businesses. Regularly, special considerations with regard to a song's availibility must be made to respect the copyright holder's wishes. Also, some producers may have specific requirements concerning their songs' availbility. Each of these issues are unique and quite complex, and typically vary by region. Therefore, at any given time some songs may not be available to play or record in a specific locale. Rest assured that we'll always have tons of great songs available to sing!
- What does "lic" mean in the song listings and catalog?
This means that the song has licensing restrictions in certain regions. While you can record and play it, people in some other regions will not be able to. This is provided so that you may consider this aspect if you're involving the community in a record process, such as a challenge or a duet request, etc. Also, people from the affected region won't be able to play or comment on your recording, therefore, you will get less exposure recording a song with restrictions.
- Why is my listed name still small even though I have lots of recordings?
The font size of your name is relative to the number of recordings that the other members listed on the same page have. This means that the member with the greater number of recordings on the page will have the largest name.
Gold Membership
- Can I get a refund?
No, all sales are final and no refunds will be given regardless of any technical problems and/or service downtime you may experience. No exceptions to this rule will be made.
- Can I share my Gold membership with anyone?
Immediate family members are the only people who can share a gold account. Family members can use the gold account simultaneously as long as they are at the same location, for example, two computers at the same house. Technically, each machine logged in simultaneously must be on the same IP address.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
Log in to your PayPal account and go to the "History" subtab of the "My Account" tab. Choose "Subscriptions" from the pull-down "Show" menu and press the "Submit" button. Choose the SingSnap Gold membership subscription and click on its "Details" link. You will be taken to a transaction details page from which you may cancel your subscription. Cancelling your subscription will immediately stop all future scheduled payments. If you cancel your subscription your membership will still be valid until what would have been your renewal date, which is one month / year from your last payment.
- How do I update my credit card information?
Log in to your PayPal account and click on the "edit profile" link on the "My Account Overview" page. Choose "Credit/Debit Cards" under the "Financial Information" heading. From this page you can change the expiration date on your current card (just click on the "edit" link for the card you use for SingSnap payments) or add new credit cards.
- How much does it cost?
$7 (USD) per month or $70 (USD) per year.
- My payment's verification is taking too long, what do I do?
When paying with a credit card on Payment, the payment is usually cleared in a matter of seconds, but may take up to 15 minutes. Click here to see if your payment has cleared.
IMPORTANT: If you paid with an eCheck, it will take from 3 to 8 days for the payment to clear from your bank, depending on your country. We cannot speed up this process, unfortunately, we must wait to ensure the eCheck clears.
If you are still experiencing issues, contact us and we'll help you.
- What do I get as a Gold member?
You get a completely advertising free website and the ability to change the key of songs during record. More features are in the plans.
- What forms of payment do you accept?
We use PayPal for all payment processing. PayPal accepts all major credit cards including VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Debit cards (also called check cards, ATM cards or banking cards) are accepted if they have a Visa or MasterCard logo. If you have problems paying with a credit or debit card we can make other arrangements too but in that case we ask that you sign up for an annual subscription instead of a monthly. Contact support@singsnap.com for further details.
- Why am I receiving multiple charges from you?
The SingSnap Gold membership is a service you subscribe to on a monthly or annual basis. As such, we automatically charge your credit card at the end of each term unless the subscription has been cancelled.
- Why do I still see advertisements in the chat room?
The chat room service is not operated by us and we have limited control over advertisements displayed in the chat. In the future we hope to be able to remove the ads for Gold members in the chat room as well.
- Will this make me funny like Austin Powers?
Yesh, just like his fashah. I like gooooooooold!
Hall Of Fame
Songs
- Are these the original music tracks?
No, our Karaoke songs are not the original artist's recordings. Artists and publishers generally will not allow their original recordings to be distributed in Karaoke format. Instead, each song has been arranged and recorded by a Professional Karaoke Producer using studio musicians to duplicate the original hit recordings you love so much! We have several Karaoke Producers to choose from. Each Producer uses a slightly different song arrangement than the others, so be sure to preview songs available from multiple producers.
- Can I make a song request?
Absolutely, please post the song titles in the request section of the message board found here. Please keep in mind that due to license restrictions some songs may take a while and others may be impossible to acquire.
- Do you have a catalog of all songs that I can download?
We most certainly do. You can find it on this page.
- How do I import the song catalog to Excel?
After you have downloaded/unzipped the catalog you can follow these steps to import it to Excel:
- Open Excel.
- Choose "File" and then "Open..." in the menu.
- Choose "All Files (*.*)" under "Files of type" in the window that comes up.
- Find catalog.txt, select it and then click "Open" to bring up the text import wizard.
- Click on "Finish" directly on the first screen of the wizard.
- Choose "File" and then "Save As..." in the menu.
- Click "Yes" in the prompt that comes up.
- Choose "Microsoft office Excel Workbook (*.xls)" under "Save as type" in the window that comes up.
- Click on "Save" and you're done!
- How many songs are in your library?
We currently have over 15,000 songs on this site and we are continuously adding to it.
System Requirements
- Can I use a USB microphone?
No, USB microphones are currently not supported for the following reason: They work independently from the computer sound card where the music is coming from. Because of this, the music and microphone cannot be recorded together. The only option you have would be to record from the USB microphone or the sound card. We are looking at alternate ways of supporting a USB microphone in the near future.
- Do I need to download anything to use SingSnap?
Yes, you must have the Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. The Flash Player is a free download and can be found on this page.
- What browsers are supported?
Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher), Firefox 1.0 (or higher) and Safari 3.0 (or higher).
Troubleshooting
- I am having problems recording, what can I do?
You need to readjust your sound card mixer settings. There's a great tutorial the message board that describes how this can be done. If you haven't already been there here is the direct link: http://www.singsnap.com/index.cfm?wheels=/community/topic/213
You will see that you need to set the Windows recording control to 'Stereo Mix' or something similar depending on the card you have.
Note: Some other online Karaoke sites change your sound card settings that's why when you return to record on SingSnap you only hear your voice.
- I can't record or listen to other recordings, what should I do?
You must have the Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. The Flash Player is a free download and can be found on this page.
- I ran the Wizard and now the sound is all messed up. What do I do?
If you're having problems with sound quality after running the Wizard, run it again and select a different microphone in the microphone selection box.
Please keep in mind that the Wizard only creates settings for the SingSnap website, your computer settings for your camera and microphone are not altered. You can clear the settings made by the Wizard and use your computer settings if you feel these settings worked better. To do this, click on the 'Sing and Record' tab then select 'Wizard' from the menu. When the Wizard opens, click on 'Clear Settings'.

Make sure you have JavaScript enabled on your computer, otherwise neither the comment box nor the rating box will work. To do this, click on the 'Tools' menu and select 'Internet Options'. Then click the 'Security' tab and set it to default.
- Why does the song start and stop?
Right click on the SingSnap player window and select 'Settings'. Now click on the File/Folder tab and move the slider all the way to the right.
- Why doesn't the preview work? It's being sent, but nothing is happening.
This can be caused by a slow Internet upload speed. Which also means that the more traffic on your local network the more problematic this will be. We are working on a solution and will update the player in the near future. Hope you can hang on till then.
