***Message from the Comish***

Announcing the formation of the Singsnap Baseball League! Hi I am the Wiz but you can call me The Comish. This contest, if successful will begin not just one contest but an ongoing set of seasons of Singing competetion. This is modeled after an American Baseball league and will be a team sport. There will not be individual winners but winning teams. We will start slow this first season with only 4 teams but if successful it may grow.

How to play…
The four teams will play one game a week for fifteen weeks. The teams will play against each other by matching one player at a time from one team against one player of the opposing team. Each individual matchup, or inning, will result in either a Homerun or a strikeout. As each player of the team sings against the players of the other team the homeruns will be points for the team. Players may enter a song at anytime during the week. At the end of the game (week) the team with the most points is the winner of that game.
Example:

Team A vs team B

Player 1 homerun player 1 Strikeout
Player 2 Strikeout player 2 Homerun
Player 3 strikeout player 3 Homerun

The end of game this would be team B wins by score of 2 to 1. (example shows only 3 innings but the first season we will have 5 innings per game)

Each week the players will enter songs to match a theme, and an Umpire will determine if it is a Homer or a Strikeout.

There will be much more to it than this so read on!

We are currently having tryouts and accepting applications for the following positions!

Players

The players will be the ones entering a song each game. The Players will compete one on one against a player from an opposing team. The better performances will score a homerun and the song with the lowest score will get a strikeout. If there is a tie both get a homerun. If a player fails to submit a song for the game by the deadline it will be a strikeout. The points from homers go to the team and the team with the most points wins the game and the team who wins the most games wins the season.
The batting average will be the homeruns divided by the number of games played. The RBIs will be the total number of homers during a season. Players may leave a team by declaring themselves a free agent. This player may then be picked up by another team if they have a slot open and the manager wants them. A high batting average and lots of RBIs may help a player get on a different team next season if they want to go the free agent route. Remember though, there is no guarantee a free agent will be picked up by another team!

Team managers

The team manager will run the team. The manager will pick out the players on the team and will set the lineup for home games. This will determine which player of the home team will sing against which player of the away team. This gives a bit of strategy to the games. A manager may wish to put his player with the highest batting average against the away teams best player or he may want to sacrifice a player to focus on beating the rest of the team.
Normally the team manager will not compete in games by singing but if a player does not enter a song it is up to the team manager to either act as a pinch hitter and submit a song by the deadline, or assign another team player to do so. If a player quits it is up to the team manager to find a replacement player and recruit them. Until the manager finds a replacement a pinch hitter may be used, all songs must be submitted by the end of game.
The team manager may cut a player and send them back to the minors if they repeatedly do not show up for a game, however a manager cannot cut a player for a low batting average until the end of the season. After the season is over we will have a short off season where the managers may look for new players. If they wish they may make a contest of their own to find new players! Scouting and recruiting is the responsibility of the managers.
The players may petetion the Comish to fire a manager. It would have to be for just cause and the petetion would have to be signed by all players on the team. If the Commish approves this it will be up to the players to find a replacement manager for the team. If a manager quits then the team will find a replacement!

***note – If this is successful, in the coming seasons I will add more managers and teams. My role will be to appoint Managers, hire umpires, set the schedule and themes, and settle disputes.

Umpires

The umpire will officiate the games by listening to the songs and declaring whether a homerun or an out. The Umpire answers only to the Comish and will be assigned to games by the Comish. Decisions of the Umpires is final and arguing with them could result in being sent to the clubhouse for a game! No whining because there is no crying in Baseball! An Umpire will listen to songs and make a call as soon as both players have submitted the songs. No need to wait until the end of the week. All scores must be in no later than 24 hours after the end of the game. (usually the games will run from noon Sunday to noon Sunday) The Umpire will not sing any songs but should be very active on the thread and check in everyday at least. Failure to post results in a timely manner may end up with the umpire being replaced. An umpire cannot be a player, a manager or a reporter.

Reporters

The reporters will keep track of all that goes on in the league and keeps us all up to date. The reporters will update lists of all songs entered and scores as they happen.
They can give a play by play, or bios of players. They will report on RBIs and batting averages too! All teams will need at least one reporter and the reporters should be in the threads at least everyday. Reporters will not sing in games. A player or a manager may be a reporter if they want to pull double duty. A reporter is hired by the managers and works for the team.

To tryout……..

To be a player ….submit a song - the managers will pick during the draft.

To be a manager pick a number between 1 and 500

To be an umpire …..send me a PM telling me why you would be a good ump.

To be a reporter……tell us here if you want to be a reporter. The more the better. After the managers are picked out they will pick a reporter or two for the team.

By the way the Managers, Players and Reporters will decide on a name and color for their team in the first round!

More to be announced later…for now ….let the tryouts begin! We will begin the draft as soon as we have a good list of potential players and potential managers!

Just so you know in this contest you may use prerecords, duets, widgets, anything you like as long as it fits the theme we will set for each game. You can even use a song you or someone else has used before!

I am also interested in listening to ideas on good themes for the rounds. I want the themes to be interesting but broad enough that no one will have a problem picking a song they can sing well!

so if you send me ideas on possible themes we will keep a list and use them as the seasons go!

absolutely...if this takes off like I hope it to, it will be run by all of you! After several seasons I will step down from being the Commish and let the Managers elect a Commish... It will be as good as you make it so do some scouting and bring in some talent!

As soon as we have enough players and managers we will begin the draft and then start playing ball, so keep checking in because there is not a set date for the draft...we will begin as soon as there are enough in the list!
