This challenge is Honor Based.
Sometimes I enjoy having the *real* Karaoke experience on this site... I'll find a song I haven't heard in ages, think.. 'Can I do this'? Then I try it, determined that I'll succeed in one take, without listening to the song first for a reminder of what it sounds like.
-Ah... The moment of panic when you see words on the screen you don't remember, that don't fit the tune of the chorus that you remember... But you just have to take your cue from the sound of the background music, and dredged bits of memory and come up with either the correct tune, or something that doesn't sound half bad for the parts you remember... or... well... Maybe it doesn't sound so good after all.
This may be difficult for people who have been on this site, or others like it for a long time... But I hope you can find a song to do. :)
The challenge here is to do what I described above. Your song selection should be: -A song you've either never sung as a karaoke performance before, or it's been years ago. (If you've only sung it to yourself as you work around the house, *without* music... well, that still qualifies.) -A song you haven't heard in a long while.... (Excepting the 'I sang it to myself' disclaimer.)
After selecting your song, you prepare to record it by singing it to yourself if you must, BUT without looking up the lyrics or playing the song first. Then you record it. This challenge accepts the FIRST TAKE ONLY.
Save it, then post it. **Please post the name of your song before the link... that way if other snappers want to do that song, they know NOT to listen to your recording first! :)
I hope if you do a 'not-so-good' job, you'll pretend there's a room full of people watching you live, and soldier on... then post it here. I understand if you don't want to. :) If that's the case, find a NEW qualifying song to post... Don't post your second try.
You're welcome to post more than one song, but no more than 3 per week.
and I messed up almost at the beginning and had to fight to keep from laughing the whole way through! Which, I guess, fits in the spirit of the challenge...
Reply by DaedreemGOLD on October 20, 2007 at 11:40 PM
Thanks for posting your selections, RevRob! :)
Even on the one where you messed up, you did great!
And you had fun doing it, too.. didn't you ? :)
I thought about requiring 5 beers before getting up to sing, but decided to have mercy on everyone there... ;) Plus, I don't drink, so then I couldn't have entered!
Everyone--- Please listen to a few other recordings from this thread, and leave a comment and/or rating, if they're allowed. That way this will not only be fun, but an "Everybody wins" :)

I was talking to my husband while looking for another song to record, and we discussed how one of the perils of TRUE karaoke was choosing a song you thought you knew, and discovering you had a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT song with the SAME title.
I then began hitting the SingSnap RANDOM SONG GENERATOR ( http://www.singsnap.com/snap/singandrecord/randomizer ) and came up with one song I knew WAAY too well... Then another one that I thought I knew way too well, but wasn't sure I knew well enough to record. I decided to record it anyway, and just not post it if it was too perfect.
It wasn't. It wasn't the song I expected AT ALL.. although it had the same beginning. :)
Reply by DaedreemGOLD on October 21, 2007 at 12:04 AM
I wanted my third try to be a more standard example of 'I don't know this, so I'll just soldier on...'
I reached this song by way of the "RANDOM" button...
I saw this one... couldn't remember any more than the chorus... And decided to try it just for the fun of it, figuring I'd remember it as I went along. How could I NOT with that popular of a song?
I didn't. :)
I soldiered on, and made up this whole tune as I went along.
Just what I was looking for for my third example of "The True Karaoke Experience".

Hey, all of y'all made it all the way through the songs - way to go!
My wife and I were at karaoke night one time and this group of girls tried to do "Carwash" - only they didn't know anything but the chorus, so they were giggling and cutting up until it got to "...workin' at the carwash... carwash, yeah!" Many of us were suggesting they just read the words being helpfully shown on the monitor, but I think that flew out the window after their first couple of drinks.

I've listened to and commented all the songs to this point, and they were all 5s. :)
Thanks for taking the challenge! :)
I'm just curious... Have all of you done In-Person Karaoke before? Or have some of you only braved the websites?
My husband was baffled when I suggested anyone may post on these sites without at some point frequenting bars for Karaoke first.

WEEK # 2!!
Happy Second week of The TRUE Karaoke Experience!
I really enjoyed everyone's submissions! I hope you'll be joining me again this week, and bringing your friends along for a song or few!
----------------------------------------
I have so many songs sitting in my list of recordings waiting to be entered into this, I have to wonder if I shouldn't have allowed more than 3 per person per week.. LOL
Well, Despite my backlog of quality, and NOT so quality recordings... I decided to post one I recorded TODAY as my entry today... I had to argue with myself a bit as to if this one qualified... I've done "American Pie" fairly recently... But I decided that this was still different enough, I'd count it... with permission from you. :)

WELL I DID A RANDOM SELECTION AND CAME UP WITH AN AC/DC SONG I'VE NEVER HEARD OR SANG BEFORE...IT'S A LITTLE SHAKY AT THE START...BUT I KIND OF GOT THE FEEL OF IT LATER IN THE SONG... TITLE; STIFF UPPER LIP
Saw this song by Pearl Jam but never heard it by them. I remember it from many years ago and I can't even remember who did it. I think it came out nicely though.
Reply by DaedreemGOLD on November 11, 2007 at 11:14 PM
Hi guys! Sacto, they have the original one by J Frank Wilson, too! :) I also recorded the "Pearl Jam" version before I realized they had the original... I don't remember if I've done the original since then... I think it works really well singing the old version to the new background music.
Hi CozyTom! You did great! Let me try to clear up a misunderstanding several people have had...
You don't have to pick a song you really don't know though... just one you haven't heard in a while. For instance, if you have a Sinead O' Conner CD and listen to it daily, don't do a song off of it.... but if you used to sing along to her songs on the radio back in the 90's, maybe even have heard her every now and then since then, and haven't listened recently, or done a performance of her (whatever) song recently.. you can do that one. Even if you learned it so well in the 90s you -think- you still remember every word and nuance of it. :)
(Edited... to bold the part I want other people scrolling down the page to notice.)
My wife & I saw this guy Ridian perform "You raise me up" on the x-factor this week. It's a song i always found to be bland and uniteresting but the guy nailed it to the ground.
So, I thought, never done that, lets have a go (plus brownie points from the missus for singing a song she likes & dedicating it to her)
SS mesed up the 1st take, so this is take 2. I LOVE busking oke tracks i only kinda know - most of my tracks on SS are like that.

I've recorded WAAAY more to qualify than I could post even with THAT limit. :)
*THIS week, the limit is *4* due to my Snaffu. ;)

Hi all!
Thanks for your recordings, you two. :)
I've been busy OFF SingSnap this week, so I'm a bit late today, but It's officially WEEK 3! :)
Lets see your songs! :)
Here's one of my older recordings, since I still have no snapping time right now..

OK.
I decided I'd worked long enough today to have a singing break....
So ... enjoy a very rough rendition of:
The colors of the wind - from Pocahontas.

WELL I DID A RANDOM SELECTION AND CAME UP WITH AN AC/DC SONG I'VE NEVER HEARD OR SANG BEFORE...IT'S A LITTLE SHAKY AT THE START...BUT I KIND OF GOT THE FEEL OF IT LATER IN THE SONG...

Saw this song by Pearl Jam but never heard it by them. I remember it from many years ago and I can't even remember who did it. I think it came out nicely though.

Hi guys!
Sacto, they have the original one by J Frank Wilson, too! :)
I also recorded the "Pearl Jam" version before I realized they had the original...
