Cheekylilvixen feliz dia de dar gracias! ~ happy thanksgiving! :)

I haven't played in a few years myself but hope to return in the fall to school to finish what I started.

I play Bb/Eb/Bass Clarinets,Alto/Tenor/Bari Sax's,Oboe, english horn, basoon, A little trumpet and Baritone( euphonium), piano, keyboards, drums and still learning to play guitar.

I can't play flute for the life of me! But I will continue to try.

Yea, those that can play without reading music, I envy them! My dad being one of them. I used to play without music before I got into band and orchestra. I started playing keyboards when I was 4yo and played by ear. Then when I started reading music, I would go back and buy the piano music sheets to see if I had it right and I did. I would giggle like it was christmas morning. I can still do it but just not as into it as I was when I was younger. Guess life has taken it's toll on me and my interest have now shifted to singing. My college voice instructor had some to do with that. I knew I could sing but never thought about getting into it other than singing in the shower LOL. She changed my mind, so I am between becoming a band director or a choir director. Since, I can't sing cus of illness at the moment, am leaning to band/orchestra.

Ok, enough chit chat LOL. Good luck with your music endeavors. I am at the moment looking into buying me a Loree Oboe, which cost over $3000 but it is one of the best brands out there. Like I said, Good l uck!!! :)

Throw just about anything at me and sooner or later I usually figure out how to play it. Self taught on guitar, though I did take a class on it in highschool. Didn't do me much good though. I REALLY suck at reading music.
I CAN get through a piece usually, but it takes me forever, and when I put it away and look at it later, it may as well be in Chinese.
I guess I just developed an ear over my lifetime, and seems once I play something I automatically commit it to memory. Lucky for me I guess, but sometimes I'd really like to be able pick up a sheet of music and just start to play.

I took piano lessons for two and a half years, until my piano teacher moved away..:-( Not sure how young I was when I took lessons...9,10 ? And I USED to be able to read sheet music really good...

I do have a piano at my mom's house. Just never went to get it. (It's so HEAVY & HUGE and not sure where I'd put it?)

But now, I'm with you Brazen, with reading sheet music. You put too many sharps & flats in there....and I'm lost big time! That works out okay most of the time though...because I pretty much only play and write my own music on my keyboards...

I saved money babysitting, when I was 17 ...and bought my first 12 string acoustic guitar (have since bought 2 more guitars...6 & 12 string electrics...that pretty much...just sit and collect dust...*sigh*)

Unfortunately, I didn't teach myself properly and only use my thumb and second finger when I pick....:-/

When I was 10 years old, I took up playing the Alto Sax. Then when I was 16, my high school band teacher talked me into not only playing the Baritone Sax for jazz band, but the tenor sax for concert band. At that same time, I took up organ lessons since I had gotten a Casio keyboard for my 15th birthday and wanted to learn how to, more easily, read Bass Clef notes. Up until then, I had only read Treble Clef notes. So, the transition was rough. I gave up the organ lessons and just started to compose my own materials.

Well, here I am....way down the road and have not touched a sax nor a keyboard for sometime. But being that I had sung in front of friends, just for fun, and told that I have a good voice.....I am glad to be able to do the SingSnap karaoke.

CanadaBlonde ,

Piano / Keyboard, but haven't for quite some time. I still have a keyboard, need to get back at it again :) Usually play stuff by ear if I don't have the music.
My childhood piano teacher also moved away Mystik, and I didn't want a new one; wish I'd stayed with it then though :( Although I took lessons again for about a year as an adult.

Used to know a few chords (3, I think...lol) on the guitar; enough to play a surprising number of songs actually. And have dabbled in others.

UFO, my Son used to also play Baritone while in High School Band, I miss going to hear them now that he's gone to University :(
All the best and have fun with your new endeavors!! :)

thanks for the responses wow many multitalented people here =o gr8 to hear =)
My guitar teacher stiffed my family after one lesson ... think i learned a G chord hehe

Well I've been playing a few songs one is a slow song kind of a ballad where I do some melody and lead on my student grade trumpet lol and another is a rag time style with banjo, trumpet I'm really rusty and am having to look at a chart to follow the guitar amd in a few keys i'm figuring out how to jump tight in. when there is no guitar I can follow the mandolin sometimes because I know it is upside down and kind of the same as guitar string wise ;)

Thanks again for the responses

I'm learning to play along with guitar and follow a banjo decently... trumpet is in Bb so it takes some getting used to ... keys of C/G are getting easier but i've never really played lead before . Just got back from a folk music festival played with many people around the camp area ... was fun!
