Char I was wondering if you knew the band that originally performed you song. One tune by Dusty Springfield you might know is "Son Of A Preacher Man". I'd love to hear you sing it...only if you want to. If you do I will. I have never been able to do it right...I think you can. So, if you do, I will...try! LOL I'll post the outcome no matter what it sounds like.

I promised and I will do it. My problem was those words...I'd never really listened to...those between the chorus. The melody changes..and I too often sing from memory. I will follow your lead and listen to the music. LOL It surely does help! Great piece of work!

Hi there Rick! I sure have enjoyed reading updates from your holiday adventure.
Wow, how big will Kinley actually get. I imagine, being from Northern Alaska, (burrrrrrrrrrrrr) she will have a heavy coat of fur. Four lbs. in four days .... OMG is right. Keeping her nutritionally satisfied will be important to Kinley and your possessions LOL!
I am excited for you. I seriously love K-9s. It is probably a very good thing you got a female. They are so much easier to train, and tend not to go through that "I wanna be the boss stage". The only breed I know of that is an exception...would be the Poodle. Poodle females fight for that position. LOL...got off track didn't I?
I'm off to listen to "Learn To Be Still". The technique you described using...I'm intrigued. I'll be right back to give feedback.
Reply by DejaHereGOLD on November 30, 2009 at 3:27 AM
Rick! That was a masterpiece. It was absolutely beyond gorgeous and was totally yours. I don't care who wrote it or who sang it before, you just claimed this .... OMG I'm tongue tied!
I was overwhelmed listening and left a stuttering (I hope it made sense)comment on your page.
It's hard to explain how you really interpret or react or think about a work of art that powerful. Your technique simply let the theme..the meaning of the lyrics (to me they spoke of really hearing...really comprehending feelings that are so sweet and gentle...they can be drowned out by everyday and everywhere noise and distraction. That is just my interpretation, of course). The soft background music..your gorgeous..I mean seriously gentle, lovely delivery...was a dynamic enhancement to the theme. It was unique, poetic, moving, and memorable.
Technical delivery was absolutely yours...I only know it worked...it was too good to listen for that sort of thing.
I'm not palavering...I'm trying to express my reaction. LOL...it ain't easy. But, it is absolutely sincere. Now if it does not make sense...it's late and I'm light headed..lol, let me know...and I'll rephrase this feedback..OK?
I hope everyone will take time to listen to Rick's rendition:

I know I could not sing this. I believe there are two ... maybe three .... maybe just two members who have been active in the last week or so that could sing this song.

Jarhead_b4, ROBERT! What an awesome surprise! You've really been missed.
I imagine you're as busy as ever, but I am thrilled you dropped in. You picked a perfect song. Hatchet just jammed on this one, and you through in that natural flair for country genre.
Robert, thanks for creating a duet with our extremely gifted "little Hatchet..aka HarrietC. This will hopefully encourage others to enjoy singing this fun, fun song solo or in duet fashion. Like Rick was challenged to do LOLOLOLOL
Hi "Cool", just kidding...we know your schedule is a bit challenged just now..hugs.
Please take time to listen to Jarhead_b4 aka Robert's "kick your shoes off and dance 'til sunlight" duet with Hatchet!

Hatchet!!!!!!! I am so grateful to hear Rudy is on the mend. It really sounds like your love and care gave him the will to push through...what very well could have been a stroke.
But, mild stroke..mini strokes happen to us, the " self appointed humans", too. When things are settled, do take him to the vet and see if he needs a blood thinner or an aspirin a day or something like that.
I'm sooooo happy to be receiving happy news today. I really was depressed last night and today. Gotta open ears and hear the good stuff! Thank you for letting us know. I wanted to ask, but must admit...you did not say, and thought it might upset your holiday to keep bringing sorrow up. Love of a family can really mean the difference in life or death... Is there a song addressing that? LOL
Reply by DejaHereGOLD on December 1, 2009 at 12:18 PM
CHAR! OMG, I listened to "Son of a Preacher Man and it was so bad I got the giggles. You are so kind! But, this is a great example of .... you support regarding.."I'll get better"....I can't carry a tune in a bucket. But, it would be better than carrying that song in my throat! lol.
Seriously, I do believe you were sincere in you comment, but if you have time...listen to it closely. I know time crunches can allow us to hear a general overview...but this has key, pitch, and just plain wrong problems....I wish I could think of some lines I delivered that sounded as if I was either crying, trying not to laugh, or about to be sick! LOLOLOLOLOL
I'm not disappointed because I knew before hand I have a problem with this one for some reason. I am going to leave it so all can listen to a song that can slip by .... friends, yet if they tune in with a critical..not negative..just a critical ear...OH MY MY! Bye Bye Preacher's son.. LOL
I am totally enjoying my blunders as well as those closer to acceptable. I was thrilled with the reaction to Gimme One Reason to Stay Here!
Char, yes you were one of the recently active members I felt had the skill to deliver this tune well.
Jarhead_b4: if you read this...I had not included you in my mental picks because you have not been active for a time. But, I would definitely have thought of you. So if you have time, we'd love to hear your version!
benjiwolf, you could ace this tune four times over and capture two kings at the same time. I did not include you in my mental picks because it has been, as with Robert, some time since you've been active. I think everyone would be very enthused if you would consider singing this one.
Now, there is at least one other that has been active, and I know can sing this very well. If you are thinking you can...you are right and you are the one!
Hope to hear some of the great HWY singers today! Hugs, Deja

LOL
BIG HUGS TO RUDY & ALL HIS FAMILY!
Love, Deja

I have to try that Dusty old song again.

You all are so kind to listen. Your comments are too generous, but I love them all the same. It has been a long hard day. Please keep singing as you can...I'll be listening...and will get back. Hugs to all of you!
