This challenge is open to all. It runs until Tuesday October 21 at 6PM EDT. Its purpose is to give people a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved. Everyone who participates is a winner.

This week my co-host is Janet!

PLEASE READ THESE GUIDELINES AND THE THEME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING

1. Post ONE OR TWO songs that fit the theme. You may post a THIRD one on or after Thursday. You may post a FOURTH song on or after Saturday. Your song can be a new song or one that was already recorded.

**2. For EACH song you post, listen to at least SIX other people’s songs and leave feedback. That means, if you post 2 songs you should listen to 12 others over the course of the 7 days of the challenge, a little less than 2 a day. If you post 3 songs, listen to 18 others and so on. You may, of course, listen to more if you choose.

Listening is the most important part of this challenge. Supporting and experiencing others is what it’s about.

3. We prefer to listen to the whole song. Try not to listen to the same people every day. Give new people a chance as well.

4. Please do not post glitter or large graphics as feedback or in the thread.

5. You don't need to post a song to listen but you need to listen if you post a song. It's best to post earlier in the challenge. But you can post up until the end.

6. Please avoid making multiple posts in a row by going back and editing your posts if you left something out. You have 30 minutes after you post to add to or correct your post by using the EDIT button.

New challenge themes are announced every Tuesday at 6PM EDT.

The music that replaced Disco on the pop charts was also music you could dance to. But it had a decidedly different flavor. Based in punk rock and also power pop, the music that emerged at the end of the 70s is the theme of this challenge.

It’s NEW WAVE

Also, referred to as the second British Invasion, New Wave music was popular at the end of the 70s and through the birth of MTV in the 80s.
Here's a link to the definition of New Wave Music:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_music

Here's a link to a list of New Wave Bands/Artists:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_New_Wave_bands_and_artists

Most notably, these artists come to mind:

ABC, Adam and the Ants, a-ha, B-52s, Bananarama, The Bangles, Toni Basil, Berlin, Blondie, Boomtown Rats, David Bowie, Bow Wow Wow, The Cars, The Cure, Elvis Costello, Culture Club, Dead or Alive, Depeche Mode, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Devo, Divinyls, Thomas Dolby, Duran Duran, The English Beat, Eurythmics, Falco, Fine Young Cannibals, The Fixx, A Flock of Seagulls, Peter Gabriel, Gary Numan, General Public, The Go-Go's, Haircut 100, Human League, Billy Idol, INXS, J. Geils Band, Joe Jackson, Howard Jones, Kajagoogoo, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, The Knack, Nick Lowe, Madness, Men at Work, Modern English, The Motels, Oingo Boingo, OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark), Pet Shop Boys, The Plimsouls, The Police, The Pretenders, The Psychedelic Furs, R.E.M., The Romantics, The Selecter, Pete Shelley, Simple Minds, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Soft Cell, Spandau Ballet, The Specials, Squeeze, The Stray Cats, Talking Heads, Talk Talk, Tears for Fears, Thompson Twins, U2, Ultravox, Wall of Voodoo, Kim Wilde, X and XTC.

Please try to avoid choosing songs by any of the above bands if that song was not recorded between the late 70s and mid 80s. We’re looking to recreate the sound of the era. Have fun!

Sandysongbird way to go gators!!!!

I want it back!! I admit the stereo wasn't easy to figure out, but I was having fun trying. Yesterday my good computer decided to go ca-put on me. Then today somehow I turned blue again, even though everything I can find says it's been paid. Have I mentioned how much I dislike paypal? Although, I'm not entirely sure it's paypal that's to blame. I'm not sure who is, but I'm soooooo blue.

I think I'll just go to sleep, and hope this was some kind of bad dream. Sorry for the whining and complaining. Sounds like a fun challenge. I'll try to find something.

Okay, here's one of my favorite songs...by Berlin...on the list up there.

I am still figuring it out and I will get back to it this week again. They say if you have what you hear the you take that off and put in mic only then record as always but then you have to mix the sound together becuase nine times out of ten either the voice is to fast or to slow or the music is. Very time consuming

Sandy check with paypal then with SS it may just be an SS gliche. Because you were gold earlier today in the disco challenge.

I have a bad cold this week and am not in top form so I found a prerecord.........CJ......I'm stealing your song again...please don't smack me with the bendy ruler.

This song was Tears for Fears first international release in 1982/1983. Snap doesn't have their version of the song but I have a lovely little duet of the Gary Jules version.

I think I've posted this one on a previous challenge so if you're sick of hearing it, just move on. But I couldn't resist posting it again. Thanks to the lovely Janet for joining me and making this song one of the most beloved of my collection ....

Hi all! This is going to be an interestingly exciting challenge!

I think I hate the new stereo mixer. It screws up timing. You have it just right in the preview then it's whacked after you save it!

I tried 3 different songs and they sag and surge. This is my better attempt.

Karen I notice that you sang this one also. I hope you don't mind me posting the same one. I'm too frustrated to try another one tonight.

TracyB really wants to change some things

I have a few songs that would fit, but a lot of the challenge folks have already heard them. I'd like to record something new for this and still hope to, but I haven't been able to get anything to save since the big stereo switchover last week(sob, sob). Things sound fine upon playback, the synch is nice, too, but I keep getting the "there was an error mixing this song" message. I've tried without stereo backing tracks too, but no go and I haven't gotten any help from support thus far. So anyway, nice theme Bruce and Janet, and I hope to be back...

I don't know if this helps anyone with the STEREO MIXER but, what worked for me twice yesterday was, record your song, enable music and timing, find the good spot on playback, then, PLAYBACK the whole track where you set it. It will click, sputter, spit, skip, but in the end when the song was thru with the playback, It saved and sounded fine. I am no expert only doing this twice, but it worked back to back for me! Later all!!!

Edit: Finding the G spot for the recording takes time and patience. Just move it around till you feel it's there. +15 was the spot on one of my songs and +24 was where I found it on the next song. **Giggle**

^^^ Now I really have to learn to drive :D GRRRRRRRR. Walking is just no fun anymore LOL. Puts on some bright pink clothes to see if it makes any difference heheh... no, I reckon you're an alien and 3 pairs of ears, that's what it is :p

Hello everyone... can't wait to get started on my listening... only my in-ear phones bust this morning, right ear only listening :( No way! ... Can't get at the wiring either, so, so, so, frustrating... found the ten times the price real headphones only they suck! So muffly bassie and I am not changing my settings for the world. Will scurry around... oooo hang on LOL I see some MORE! Forgot I had them, plus I have three other pairs for transcription LOL... I think I'll be having an ear fitting day...

Kate, wonderful, wonderful news for wee Em... :D

Tracy... I'm so sorry. That must be very, very frustrating - and soul destroying - especially when you put your heart into stuff. Won, has this stereo transfer over been an all round better experience for pc users? I'm getting that impression as so far, in all I have listened too, people who might have had a distorted, tinny sound, but wonderful voices are sounding excellent all round... I've been lucky - only tried 4 tracks so far, one didn't work, and didn't try again, since my time to sing is often limited, so, that's a good, good thing.

To anyone using the Alesis Mixer... and usb lead - probably work analog too, I found out a wee while ago you can make a near vocals only recording by depressing, that's having the button up on 2 tk to mix, that's the very first rectangular button near your main mix. I am also having to turn the gain up high, which means for me it sounds hugely loud and almost distorts, probably does LOL, but when I playback review is still not loud enough and have to slide the slider vocally... You must remember to press the button down again to review or you won't hear it properly... anyway, that's all I have done. I have music enabled as the vocal button makes the music low when you sing... so again you have to be brave and try to sing at your normal volume and not go shy and quieter as you would naturally. I'm also on XP so probably more stable than Vista haha. Anyway, thought I'd chuck that in, in the hope of helping somebody, anybody! Maybe for once in my life I've just been lucky (other than 24 hour mixing on one) ... and will GRRR on next recording ;-)

Anyway, happy morning everyone... very grey and dull here... listening to these songs will change all that though. ;-)

RE : Janet's tips for mixer ... i did it button thing last week .. i thought if the USB mixer was called 'mixer' is 'cause you should be able to choose what stream of sound you want to use. But < here it comes, it is not working for me to record voice only via alesis. My sound itself weather is voice only, music only or both it skips ... funny thing is, when i use a backing track which i not coming from SS everything turns up fine, go figure.

But then i haven't tryed again since i was recording for Dani's challenge so i must give it another go tonight and try to record a new wave song ? ;-)
