I'm going to post this msg in a couple of different areas. PLEASE don't move it or consider it Spam.

YES! We are finally going to work on Round 2 of the genre sorting. This is a MASSIVE project and I have agreed to spearhead it.

If you have ever wagged your head at how a song is classified, now is your chance to fix it. PM me!!! Let me know how much work you are willing to do on this project.

Round One (what we have now) was based on artist classification for the most part and THAT has errors. This round will be based on INDIVIDUAL SONGS

PM me PLEASE with your offer of assistance.

WOOOT! This train is rolling with 8 peeps so far. We need about 5 times that many though!

Come on folks! HELP!!!! The more folks that are helping, the faster we can get this done.

We need a "love songs" expert. Also need a metal/heavy rock expert. How about classic rock? True alternative would be great. Holidays anybody??? What genre do YOU feel you can handle and know well?

Whoever does "holiday", please don't put "Hard Candy Christmas" there. Listen to the song...it ain't about Christmas.

bipolarbetty is happy.

How about a genre of adult (overly abundant that is) lyric songs? (I mean by lyrics only, not the songs message-curse words that are EXTREME and repeated many times in the same song). I know they fall in many categories here, but people could identify which ones have OBVIOUS explicit lyrics, and have subcategories within that genre.

Like: Adult-/ rock,blues,rap,love,etc....

I never understood this either. It has nothing to do with Christmas, but she made a holiday video and it's played at Christmas. Weird ppl

I think we definitely need someone to break up the Country genre into smaller ones if that's even possible?

Folks, the first volunteers are busy debugging the process and we are working out the kinks. Soon as I get them rolling along smoothly, will add the next batch of ya to the mix.

Donny, contact Connie to see about Country. She is heading up that part. Sadie and her are already working out the details. If they need help, then I will glad to send ya the form to fill out.

Betty, Love your idea about explicit/adult as a genre. Sad thing is most of my fav rap/hip-hop songs will go there. LOL

Thank you folks! So far there are 12 peeps volunteering. This rocks!

Lady,
If ya wanna tackle a genre, send me your email addy via PM. Soon as I get these other folks going smoothly, will add in the new folks that have offered.

Donny, dang, sounds like I was blowing ya off and that ain't the case! Is just that Country is already in the works and Connie has done this before. That is one more HUGE genre though and she may want/need help. Just let me know. And if she wants to leave it as is for now, if you have another area you wanna tackle, let me know. PM me your email addy if you have Excel. That's how I'm going to maintain this stuff.

I still have to work out details with Connie, but so far I have....

Classic Country
New Country
Western/Swing
Country/Pop
Bluegrass/Country
Outlaw Country?

I think that will break it up quite a bit

Rock definitely needs to be divided in sub genres! When I started reclassifying songs yesterday, I noticed that by now you can find about ANYTHING in "rock". However, ...

Elvis does not equal Nirvana does not equal Led Zeppelin does not equal Pink Floyd does not equal The Stones does not equal ozzy Osbourne does not equal AC/DC etc etc etc etc etc etc

I can't do it though!

Lol Binky, yes wise girlie wise!! Much easier to scan and find a new genre cos ya can easily miss and nobody knows the wiser.. whereas we got the list of the ones we need to re classify.

Yea anyway incase anybody is interested Sadie and I have compromised and what is easiest for both of us to classify.

Bluegrass
Classic Country
Country Pop
Contempory
Country&western/Swing

TADA!!

Mel, Rock is covered. No worries.

Donny, this is first pass. We will refine it again later. Maybe for Round 3. I do have a category in mind that you should be able to help out wonderfully.

Folks,
I'm updating the master file for this project. Hang tight and pause what you are doing until I'm done. Then I will send you a NEW file where you will only need to fill in the proposed genre.

Sorry for all the changes but as this goes along, I'm finding better ways to make it go more smoothly.

Folks please bare in mind that if you are using a blank excel sheet and not using the song catalogue available for the information, and depending on what Genre you are taking on, if you browse by the singsnap 'browse by' pages you may not realise that songs are not being made available to you on a search because they are not available in your region.

Also if you're using an Excel document you can only get 16,348 rows!!!!
I now have TWO Excel documents open with 11,788 & 9,851 rows respectively on them!!!

& I've tried to correct ALL the spelling mistakes & put "The"s & "A"s at the front where they belong!!! lol

Hang tight please. This is part of the formatting nightmare that drives me batty trying to merge all the stuff you send me back. I'm working on it. HONEST! :-)

Actually, I'm trying really hard to set it up so it will go very smoothly for the volunteers this time. Last time we had NO starting point and that made for heaps of challenges. At least this time, there is a sorta structure to start from.

Correct Dianne. I'm setting up files to make it a bit easier for all of us this time around. We have a starting place this time whereas before we had nada as far as a place to start.

I'm shocked so many peeps that helped last time with the headaches it was are back for more. Sure am glad to have ya though!

Cos we luv it! Peachy knows that last time It helped me cos I needed something to focus on at the time.

Yea the way we started out on this particular one here needed that stop cut wait! I immediatley felt the drawbacks of it.

At least the smaller files will keep it on track and at a steady pace for submittal and perhaps will allow more volunteers to take on a part.

I have about 900 more songs to "clean". Then I have to bust them into groups. Sometime tomorrow the files will be ready.

Sorry but this is taking a bit longer coz of artists that have more than 2 names. GRRRRRRRRRRR.... special formating for those.
