I joined here to sing, and REGARDLESS of what others believe, that's secondary to why I am here, I am here to try to learn to sing, and because I love music... This other chatter should NEVER upstage or keep us from keeping things in perspective.. We are here because we love music, and sharing singing.. That's what I believe, although some of us spend alot of time on the bboards, it's nice that administration has stuck their neck out allowing us potentially volitile topics that seldom work in less mature venues...

So praise_______ (fill in the blank with whomever you wish)

That we have all this here, but let's not allow beliefs to displace why we joined :)

great topic!

I believe that we all share a common bond through the love of music.
Our beliefs should not keep us from enjoying the company of one another.

Exactly- We ALL have music in common THAT is why we are here.. The other beliefs can never ALL be identical ! But they are of less importance than the artform we are here for that we love IN THIS setting. In a place of worship that's a different time and place of course... Yet here, we are discussing beliefs but that is NOT why we are a member of Singsnap, and I think it's important we NEVER lose sight of that..

We ALL share a commonality ! Music ! A language and belief that is the same for all of us ! We don't have to like the SAME music, but we aren't all identical either !!!

and some of the most AMAZING musicians I have EVER known, and that I am watching now are devoutly Christian, HOWEVER...WOW... Watching these musicians makes me wonder at times "Gift from God", In fact what has touched me more than any talk is what people do thru their artwork, and these guys,,,WOW !

If any are interested, I can share the work !

Similarly, I've played with some top-notch musicians that had to make a decision their path is now to play music for the Lord. We had to part ways because the whole life-style changes BUT, I miss these guys dearly, and I have to wonder what it is that they found, that I never did !

We can discuss Christian music, or music of any ethnicity or belief here.. Dino is an amazing Pianist, Keaggy an amazing guitarist, and I'm currently watching these musicians... In the progressive rock/funk albeit Christian venue.

Staill looking Amy, In fact I've been looking from the MOMENT I last was on this thread, I intended on adding it to my prior post, and I'm still trying to reference the band I was watching last night that I somehow found while following Christian Guitarist Phil Keaggy.. I'm so curious to find the band (forgot the name) that I will be back here ASAP to post them.. I recall the bassist was short, and he starts with a discussion on Christianity, and the band once they play are AMAZING.. Keyboardist has an amazing voice... It isn't the band Petra, I need to keep looking bbs !

and I'm still going nutty trying to find them. I can't believe (given the fact I was watching them last night) I am having such a terribly difficult time. They couldn't have been obscure, however they might've been a Christian all-star reunion band, the thing is, they were middle-aged, and were all renouned musicians alone, but even after trying to retrace my sites last night, and trying to recall the tangent I went on and found them, this has become quite a quest... What I'm saying is I haven't forgotten, but HAVE been looking...

btw.. I didn't know Victor Wooten (the bass player) was Christian, but it appears he is..

OK, back to perusing youtube.

This IS NOT the band I was referring to, but they are good, journeyesque, and Christian pop-rock

Here was what I did last night, that I had not done up til just now... I searched 70's Christian rock. This was the band that floored me.. Amazing musicians ! However they were only around as a band I believe for 7 years.

I have to say of musicians that I like, at the top of my list would be these:

Smokie Norful (Gospel)
Eric Benèt (R&B, Neo Soul)
Brian McKnight (R&B, Neo Soul)
Take 6 (Christian, Acapella)
Richard Smallwood (Christian)

I'll write more as and when I think of them...

guilty (raises hand). you know, it is so easy to get flamed and before you know it you are just pounding the desk with anger over the thick headedness of those imbeciles that just can't see your side of things and who stick doggedly to their obviously erroneous points and beliefs. so you spend ten hours trying to diamantle stick by brick their entire belief system and degrading everything they believe or hold dear. and in the end, even if you win, you lose. because everyone sees you as just an angry little bully. guilty (raises hand). so really, no matter what you believe, and no matter who goads you into a "discussion" that you somehow sense is not headed for profitable discourse, rethink your motives and your goals. is it worth winning your debate (which ultimately you won't anyway) at the expense of your reputation and the hurt feelings of a whole room full of readers? on balance? probably not.

Hi Michael, guilty also. I have been so angry in the last few days and it has stopped me from singing and that's why I signed up here.

Not everyone sees you as a bully. It took me a while to understand what you mean sometimes, wasn't sure if you were serious or sarcastic and you are very direct. In fact as direct as I want to be but chicken out because some of the responses can be so nasty and I am a delicate soul, me.

I looked at THE thread just before it was deleted and before I could get all wound up and hot under the collar with all the hot flashes I am having anyway and then I read your funny posts, they were spot on but outrageously direct :)

And you are right, it isn't worth it. It spoils the day and our enjoyment here and I have to admit sometimes I even think AT NIGHT about it. Earlier I was so involved in responding I ignored my dog and when I checked later he had chewed up a pen and the ink was on the nice cream carpet :(. That should learn me!

So, are we going to stop looking??? Hmmm, I can't help myself but I have to have a look...

For the record, I don't think you're a bully either..although, there are times when you CAN be. :) As I said on another thread...I come from the royal family of sarcasm so I "get" you and your jokes.

Now, the topic at hand...singing is really NOT my top priority for coming to these type sites. It's a definite plus and part of it. But, my main reason is to connect with other people that share the same interests/love of music as me. I've made plenty of nice acquaintances and a few friends. It works for me. :)

I have been to the beliefs boards too of lately. Consider me a newbie. I guess my style is stating my thoughts in a solid way that hopefully doesn't offend people. Or atleast I try, lol. But regardless of whether I agree or disagree with some views, I am always glad to get to know people better. I have found that kindness and understanding goes a long way.

And yes we should all share our music. That is the reason I joined this site. It is amazing what I have learned just by being on this site. I have sung songs I thought I would never sing.

I recommend giving johnnyo a listen. He is new to this site and puts on one heck of a show. Great thread. Happy singing one and all :)))

OK, regarding the topic.. Grand Funk, "Flight of the PHoenix", when Mark Farner became a Christian they really composed some decent music.. Prior to that they were LOUD and not the best band IMHO... I do enjoy and own their "Flight of the Phoenix" album... Want to see an amazing Christian musician... Go to You Tube, and look up my old buddy Phil Keaggy

Treat yourself to the mellow acoustic style of my Christian buddy Phil who I've done some work with WAY in the past (end of Glass Harp days when he opted out of rock to get into more Christian based originals).. Anyway, I like some of his mellow new-age type style...

Did you get offended tonight or yesterday? Because if it was yesterday then it was probably in the beliefs board and probably in the gay thread which has been deleted and shut down. If it was today I don't know, my operatives have not yet directed me as to where most fruitfully direct my trolling skills.

I'm not sure, I can't find where, when and how I was offended (must be old age) ... LOL

Last thing I know I asked if anybody had seen my wallet. That was last post. Decided to do some online shopping after that post but never had a chance to return to Singsnap until around now so I don't know whether or not I was offended within that thread or not.. But if folks tell me I was, I won't argue <shrug> :)

Anyway, It's kind of people to be considerate enough to be concerned about my feelings, however I do not offend easily at all, given my warped, and dry SOH, I always consider the "Strange Humor Abounds" axiom and don't readily think folks are saying anything offensive, so to those that expressed concern via PM that was quite kind of you... I'm just curious as to what I missed though..LOL...

Monique has caught me saying certain things too, and she has let me know her feelings regarding what I've stated, that's what I like about her.. She says it like she feels it. In actuality, regarding my own experiences, Monique has been accurate.. At times I get fed up with certain things and vent, I often resort to biting sarcasm (which isn't very nice but It's something I tend to use to make points)..Monique is down to Earth though, I like that, she says it just as she feels it.. I like it when people let me know how they feel about something, Not always pleasant to hear, but growing up, maturity, and etiquette is something I do need to eventually learn when dealing with 1000's of people I suppose.. Given the enormity of the PC stuff, and fluff that abounds, I'll take honesty ANY WAY it's delivered, whether I agree or not is a different story, however I prefer people say it when I've rubbed them the wrong way, than harbor resentment, and start saying things behind my back.. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is it's good when somebody says something directly to us, as opposed to saying it behind our backs, It's honest, clears the air, and grudges aren't held.

True nuff. But, when a person says something on a "public" message board innocently and someone else comes along and see's it then in turn pm's someone else and says.."Hey, that person was talking about you"..when in fact the person was NOT. That's what I was referring to.

Amazingly even a broken clock and Sir are right twice a day. People who do not want their views assailed should keep them and their thin skins out of the boards. Certainly away from the beliefs and politics boards where it is well known that hard heads, strong (and yes, sometimes abrasive) personalities and fervently held views prevail. Some people even have emotional reactions to their ideas being assaulted. I don't think that it is reasonable for people to jump into the middle of a maurauding mob and say "hit everybody but me" then proceed to strike everything that moves.
