Sound quality

What equipment is everyone using especially the ones who have like an echo effect - like they are in a recording studio. I don't know if I am doing something wrong on my settings or if what I am using for a mic is the problem. I have a lot of trouble with this. I am consistently having to check my songs over and over again and making sound adjustments before saving. I don't like singing the same song over and over and over. It makes me lose interest.
Any suggestions would help me tremendously.
I have an emachine that is only a year old (not even) and it is pretty up to date.
How do I get better sound quality?

Cheekylilvixen oh man, i am tired ..need a drink and can;t have 1 lol

Do you know what sound card you have? If its an integrated sound card, it is probably just the basics. Unless you requested it have a good sound card. You may want to check out Creative Sound Blaster sound cards, they have good sound quality. They vary in prices but their cheapest with echo/reverb is the SB Live!24bit ( which is the one I have and they go for about $30 or so in price) and their best one is the EMU but that one cost well over $100( I think somewhere around $150, not sure).
You may also just get a mixer with effects, not sure for prices on those, cuz I don't use one but if you check out the next few pages on this forum or do a search for mixers, you may find some threads on such info.
BUT if you also want a better sound all around, upgrading your sound card to a better one, would probably be the best bet but if you just want effects, a mixer could work for you as well.

NOTE: if you get a emu card vwill require a mixer as emu cards do not have mic pre-amps but thay stand alone when it comes to sound and effects THE GEAR GUY.

Get a USB mixer and you won't even need to use your soundcard!!

BUT.. A USB MIXER USES THE BIT RATE TO RECORD WITH IF IT GLICHES SLOWS DOWN IN ANY WAY WILL EFECT YOUR PLAYBACK AND RECORD CAN MAKE IT SKIP STOP ... A PC SOUND CARD WILL STAY STABLE WHEN RECORDING. THE GEAR GUY.

not only that a mixer won't give you good sound all around. Buy a better brand sound card and you will have good sound quaity.
