Most of us visit this site everyday, and if you say you don't, well, you know... ;) My priority here has changed over time, but the site is becoming more and more fun as time passes, as it evolves and adds new stuff.
When i first joined singsnap January 2007, my priority was to sing. First thing i did was testing the overall sound quality and i was very happy with it. I didn't have any upload issues, and i hadn't any problems to record. My first online karaoke experience was a few days before i joined here, and Singsnap was the best i found. So i said to myself, 'i finally found the right online karaoke place!'
I sang and posted a song in public. I then started to navigate the site. Filled my profile page, checked comments, looked at my guestbook. The first two weeks, i spent like less than an hour a day. I started to visit the message boards about 2 weeks later, probably because it wasn't my priority, but to sing. I wasn't interested in the message boards, infact i remember browsing it for not more than 30 minutes, even less. My priority didn't change,i was here to sing.
As time has passed my priority changed, and what changed it was the community. One thing that makes this site special from any other karaoke or non-karaoke community site is that its hardly that one gets bored. Singsnap has different ways to have fun and interact with people, mainly (and what i feel most importantly today): message boards (any form of discussion and contests), posting on songs and sing (public or IC), and singing/chatting in the chatroom.
To make a long story short, my priority on singsnap was singing. Today my priority is the message boards. The time i spend today on the message boards is much more than it used to be. To be honest, i wouldn't spend much time on here if it wasn't for the message boards- chatting with friends and discussing on threads (whether they are entertaining threads or not). I love all singsnap's features and i believe, for me, the site wouldn't be interesting if it hadn't all these features. But if i have to choose, to be honest, what makes me come here day after day is the message boards, and from there i use the rest of the site's features.
How about you?

I started out here just singing. Then discovered the challenges on the message boards. Now I live on them..I currently host one on my own...and a couple days a week cohost another one. I had said I would never do contests, but now find myself singing in those too...I could care less if I win them..just like sharing the music with more people. I ran a few contests and hope to do more of that to. It gets boring if I'm not doing something here. I'll normally have one listening window open and another open to pop around the message boards while listening. I most likely would sleep on here too if trevor offered comfy beds.

I have sang since before I can even remember. I first "performed" in front of people, in church, at around 4 years old. When I found out there was such a thing as online karaoke, it was like it was custom made for me. I'd tried those other sites, and got my invitation from a friend to come here. (not using this name, but the joint account that hubby and I share)
I was immediately blown away by not only the sheer number of songs, but the quality. I mean, these were the same manufacturers that I bought my karaoke CD's from. Didn't think it could get any better. The message boards were introduced, and I lurked for the most part for over a year easily. Oh I'd post something insignificant once in a while, but I mostly just lived vicariously watching the boards and learning about you guys.
I've only recently become an "active" forum member. I've laughed, I've cried, I've laughed till I've cried. I've cussed, I've typed out full length novels in response to subjects that have hit too close to home (which I've usually ended up deleting before I ever posted them). My heart has soared over love, weddings and births in this community. My heart has broken over illness and death in this community. And now my heart is breaking over the discontent that is happening. When my friends hurt, I hurt. When I hurt, it's very detrimental to my well-being, physical, emotional, psychological, you name it.
I used to say I love SingSnap, but it isn't SingSnap that I love. It's the people, the friends, the community. Yes, I enjoy the music, the songs, the library. But I LOVE my friends. Even in "real" life, I have many many acquaintances, but few friends. More people on this site (granted, usually through PM's) know more about me, the REAL me, than the people who see me every day of my life.
My priority on SingSnap, you ask... You... YOU are my priority... (you includes Tezz the OP, but not ONLY Tezz)... WE are my priority... Maybe the entire site needs to sing "Let's Be Us Again"

I started singing on another site for the first time in my life, never opened my mouth to sing a note, a little over a year and a half ago...then I got invited here, and it was to learn how to sing.
Then it became a social place, a stress relieving place to meet people and be entertained.

Until the US elections are over, I won't have time to spend here doing much of anything. Listening, reading, or otherwise...
I do have "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company" stuck in my head now though... LOL

jacobcorn wrote:I come here to sing.
Shawn, I'm sure you do, but if that's all you came on here to do, you wouldn't be so active in the contest threads etc.
There really are some people that come on here just to sing *gasp*..they do nothing but come on, record, save their songs, and then go off until the next time they feel like singing..and more power to them if that's what they enjoy. ( I imagine some of them don't even save their songs, or save them to private, they just want to practise!)
If we join in with the message boards though, I think it's because we need the social interaction that the boards bring, whether we realise it or not!
I used to come here to sing, then all the good songs got taken away, and then some other shitty events happened in my life...so now I just read the boards and don't make a lot of noise...sing when a good new song comes out...that's about all.
When I first came here it was mostly just to sing, now it's mostly (50%) about the boards and singing/listening/commenting about forty percent of the time. That's probably about how it will stay, with 10% spent on PMs. The only board I post on very often is the Politics board, even tho it usually gets fairly nasty, but that probably just shows how twisted I am. I enjoy a good verbal scrap.
One thing I wanted to point out that probably affects how some people use their time on the site. I feel lucky that I've ended up with just about the right amount of "fans" who've flagged my songs and check them regularly. I try and usually am able reciprocate the listening that the ten or so folks who regularly listen and comment on my songs do. Alto there are technically more than ten folks who have flagged me, the rest haven't made any regular effort to listen and comment me nor have I for them. In most of those cases there probably isn't that much shared interest in the same types of music and/or our singing isn't that mutually very impressive.
I think it's pretty hard to keep up listening to more than a dozen people at a time, esp. if they record a lot. Otherwise, I'd have no time for the boards or other hobbies outside SS. So, if someone new or outside of my core fans gives me a comment on a song, I'll check them out and leave a comment on a song or two, but it's unlikely that I'll keep it up with them. I have a couple fans, also on my favs list, that are fantastic singers and probably two of the many "stars" on SS, both with probably close to a hundred fans AND favs each on their profiles. I don't see how they can even try to keep up with listens on even most of their fans and I for one don't expect them to.
Just thought I'd point that out to show there are always trade-offs and that everyone's priorities are different, sometimes out of necessity.

Seconded, or after Trevor's post should I say, thirded. My favorite story in the original newsletter was the story of Joseph and Lupi. I can't promise I'd read anything else in the next edition, but I'd definitely read this type of column in future issues of the newsletter.

True Nuff!
I've found some on the boards, some from other sites and some through commenting and such. The boards keep me 'visible' but I'd likely spend more time listening/singing/commenting if they weren't here! haha
When I first started here, i'd sing a song, then go listen to some random folks, hoping they might comment on my song. Yeah, that's pretty pathetic, but it's true. haha.
Over time, I collected some fans and favorites and started making friends.
Then i found the message boards and made some more friends.

Thanks for the input Betty and Tomac !
Novella- I either didn't notice or had no idea you wrote that story, but my opinion stands, good work is good work done and should be recognized as such. I just call them as I see them no matter who's involved. Nice to agree again with you, lol!
Came here to shock myself by singing publicly, which I would never do in a real karaoke place. Sang Beatles every day...or Queen...and a few others. Found the boards and played in the challenge threads for awhile, then discovered off-topic and LMAO at some of the folks there. Been there ever since. Lurked mostly for a year or so, then had a summer off and started a thread or two. Found folks with similar interests....cooking, art, genealogy, etc., and exhausted those topics for awhile. Found that listening to recordings of folks on the threads was more personal and sooooo very interesting/funny/amazing compared to listening to random recordings, and that's pretty much who I listen to now along with a few favorites from wayyyy back at a different karaoke site.
Now? I sing now and then, WAYYYY less since losing my favorite artists to lic, but mostly read the boards and interject my views and ideas now and then.
If i have to put them as a percentage it would be similar to yours. Although, i do sing more songs than i post, singing is a relief, i can't not sing! :o)
I was looking for a song that I like.......and I accidentally stumbled upon this site. First I tried to sing....then I stumbled upon a contest and met some really great folks. Then I ventured onto the message boards and met some more great people. It is definitely the people that have me hooked on this site. I spend the majority of SS time on the boards I listen more now than I record.....unless I just need to relieve stress.
I found SingSnap by accident actually... I was in another online contest, and one of the contestants posted a song from this site. After I checked it out, I was hooked.
I came to sing mostly... Being asthmatic, it was getting tough to continue doing shows in local clubs. And, since I stopped running my own shows, I'm kind of out of the circuit so I'm not sure where the good shows are these days.
I enjoy entering the contests - not because I believe I'll win one, but to meet people, interact, and hear a variety of songs. That is also what led me to assist in judging contests. I wanted to be a part of a fairly run, well organized contest and didn't have time to run one on my own.
It has really only been receently that I found the message boards. I do have to admit...Some interesting things go on in these threads!
If I were to break it down, I believe it would look something like:
50% - Singing 35% - Listening to others / Leaving Comments 10% - Lurking in threads 5% - Juding Contests

if funny i spend 7 dollars to post and comment on threads as you guys know kj 5 nights aweek so no singing for me here anyways at first it was to sing now its to chat the 7 dollar thing is funny cause i could do the same thing for free

I come here just to rattle everyone's chains... ahahaha! Just kidding. ;)
When I first joined, it was primarily to sing. Now it's primarily to rattle chains. Ok, just kidding...again! ;P
Of course, I really enjoy the message board, and it's the primary reason I come here. If the message board ceased to exist, I would probably become more involved in the singing aspect again...but for now, I'm having waaaay too much fun on the threads!
Since most of my friends here are from Pal, they wouldn't be missed anyway! However, I think that SS is a curse (LOL) In other words, once a member, always a member...whether or not you're a paying customer. ;)
P.S. This thread is a nice change of pace, Attezo. :)
I first came here on April 8th 2007. I came here to sing with my brother Viper that was on here then. I got into singing allot at first, and entering contests, and running around on the boards. Once in a while I like to sing live in the singing chat rooms... ;-) Is a fun place... ;-) I began meeting so many wonderful people, and friends. I love helping people out, and answering there questions for them... :-) So if I had to say what my priority is here at SingSnap I would say All of SingSnap... I love it all, and can't wait for future developments, meeting new friends, and helping everyone that is in need.... ;-)
I came to online karaoke to sing and met some wonderful friends in the process so yes now the attraction for me is two-fold:
The singing and listening and the community and friendships.
Most of the friends I have here however I have met through feedback on my songs and my return feedback to them and private messaging with people I resonate with. That and the EAW (Everyone's A Winner) weekly Challenges, where most of my Snap friends are now.
However, if the message boards disappeared except for the challenges etc. that I needed to find I would not die of a broken heart.
They are okay and I do visit them from time to time but for me there is also my hobbies at home, walks in the parks, photography birdwatching and the rest of the world of nature out there plus singing and recording online and keeping up with the closer friends I have here on Snap. Oh, and work and eating and sleeping too :))
I simply do not have the time for message boards that some folk have here
Like the message boards okay, but could live without them too. If it was a choice between message boards and singing the choice would be easy for me as I can still meet friends here through the music
i first came here to sing and to be honest didn't intend to do anything else here but i ended up making meaning full online friendships here and have kept in touch with people from other karaoke sites that i joined before this site. So know i listen and sing and comment and post on the message boards and do contest here so my priority's have changed.
Well, Initially when I first entered Singsnap my Priority was "to Sing", of course since Dec. 2007 many changes have transpired in my life.. I've since met and been in and out of 35 marriages to Singsnap females (well, mostly females) have 72 children (all members of this site), 16 grandchildren (13 are members of this site), and 38 great grandchildren (none are quite old enough to be here in all honesty)..
my mom says I've been singing since I was in the womb. SHe probably meant dancing really LOL. Anyways, I have been singing and dancing on stage since I could walk & talk. After I got married, I still sang with a band but once my daughter was born, I quit singing with bands. The first time I ever sang karaoke was to my ex-husband, on our first date. Then after we married, had my daughter I sang karaoke every friday at the recreation room on the military base. I started joining karaoke contest at every base we lived at. Anyways, in 2000, I discovered an online program called Mplayer and that is where I started singing karaoke online. Then it shut down and I moved on to Paltalk in 2002. First actual karaoke site I joined was DTS, then moved on to KSK and SS( not singsnap). First karaoke place that I used to sing my karaoke music from was Streamkaraoke.com. Coincidently, that is where I got MY INVITE to Singnsap. Hmm, wonder why? LOL . I didn't get my invite from a friend, like most did. Stream sent me an email and wanted to know if I wanted to join a beta karaoke site for testing. I said sure! Next thing I know I am a member here.
Anyways, I had never been to a karaoke site that carried their own karaoke music. So, thought I would check it out. The other karaoke sites, I am a member of, don't carry their own karaoke music, we supply it ourselves. Anyways, I mostly came here to sing. I didn't start using the forum till like 8 months after I joined the site. I had, had a bad experience with DTS Message board. If ya'll think this place has naughty people in it, ya'll would be in for a surprise at the one on DTS. THe members here are ANGELS compared to what I saw over there. After that incident, they removed the forum. SO, I was cautious about joining the one here. I left comments here and there. Took me another 3 months before I really joined head on LOL. Now, I am mostly here at the MB, than singing but that mostly has to do cus I can't really sing that much at the moment cus of my current vocal situation of the past 9months. I still sing just not as often as I used too. I would probably have 5000 recordings, like some do, if I could still sing like I used too.
So, its more like 80% message boards and 20% singing.
THe people I have met here is what keeps me coming back to the MB's. Course their are a couple who have made me wish that I never joined the site but the other 98% convince me otherwise. Ya'll are awesome! :)
I was playing Gin at yahoo, had a song running thru my head that had been there for a few days,i ask the person i was playing if he knew who sang that song. he told me than ask if i knew about singsnap,he sings here , i followed him here that day and spend 80% of my online time here now, bty i couldn't sing my way out of a paper bag but i sure enjoy listening.

I remember when you got married and the thread. Isn't Singsnap wonderful? :o) Glad Singsnap for you was more than singing a song and making friends.

angimac making bandages out of warning labels...Until the US elections are over, I won't have time to spend here doing much of anything. Listening, reading, or otherwise...
I do have "I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company" stuck in my head now though... LOL
and smile, Jacqui... it increases your face value - one of a gazillion quotes that I adore from the movie Steel Magnolias

Mandy come on then reaper..come get us...lolShawn, I'm sure you do, but if that's all you came on here to do, you wouldn't be so active in the contest threads etc.

Joseph's and Lupi's story was my fav also. :-)
When I first started here, i'd sing a song, then go listen to some random folks, hoping they might comment on my song. Yeah, that's pretty pathetic, but it's true. haha.
Over time, I collected some fans and favorites and started making friends.
Then i found the message boards and made some more friends.
Now it's probably more like this.
Message board chat - 60%
Listening to pals (mostly) - 35 %
Recording - 5 %
i still like singing, but friends making me smile is better. :)

I fully agree, Sum. Trading listens/comments, as well as PMs, with friends are by far the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of SS for me.

How did I miss this gem? Great thread Tez!
I was looking for a song that I like.......and I accidentally stumbled upon this site. First I tried to sing....then I stumbled upon a contest and met some really great folks.
Then I ventured onto the message boards and met some more great people.
It is definitely the people that have me hooked on this site.
I spend the majority of SS time on the boards
I listen more now than I record.....unless I just need to relieve stress.

50% - Singing
35% - Listening to others / Leaving Comments
10% - Lurking in threads
5% - Juding Contests

What a great thread... ;-)
I love it all, and can't wait for future developments, meeting new friends, and helping everyone that is in need.... ;-)

I came to online karaoke to sing
and met some wonderful friends in the process
so yes now the attraction for me is two-fold:
The singing and listening
and the community and friendships.
Most of the friends I have here however
I have met through feedback on my songs and
my return feedback to them
and private messaging with people I resonate with.
That and the EAW (Everyone's A Winner) weekly Challenges, where most of my Snap friends are now.
However, if the message boards disappeared except for the challenges etc. that I needed to find
I would not die of a broken heart.
They are okay
and I do visit them from time to time
but for me
there is also my hobbies at home,
walks in the parks,
photography
birdwatching
and the rest of the world of nature out there
plus singing and recording online
and keeping up with the closer friends I have here on Snap.
Oh, and work and eating and sleeping too :))
I simply do not have the time for message boards
that some folk have here
Like the message boards okay,
but could live without them too.
If it was a choice between message boards and singing
the choice would be easy for me
as I can still meet friends here through the music
Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Lordy, sorry so long! lol
