Thats the reaction I get from people who have never heard of online karaoke! When I 1st discovered online karaoke it was like the greatest thing,I no longer had to go spend 50 dollars for a night out to get some attention! LOL
Then,it turned into singing for myself,a stress releiver,I sing so many songs and never even save them, those songs are purely for me.
Im just wonder how many that laffed me off for singing online have gone home and tried it? lmao

Actually I think my neighbours may have been on to me some time ago.
A few years back, when my old computer couldn't even mix the mic and backing track simultaneously I had to run one of my hi-fi speakers up from downstairs and pump it up REALLY loud so the headset mic would pick it up enough to sing over and be heard at the receiving end. Of course this meant I was singing at the top of my lungs just to hear myself over it.
I had to tell the neighbours one night that I was particularly drunk and that Mustang Sally was my favourite song.
i would love to throw a ss poster in the front of my books to turn people on to ss here in nh new hampshire ive only talked two one person from nh on ss it would be nice

Several people know that I sing online! No one I have ever told, like the majority here, has said anything negative about it...to my face! ;)
There are two people that I can think of that would know it was me singing if they stumbled upon my page. Other than that, I am too shy to sing in front of people.
Im sure my people click on the site to poke fun at me too but, that means they are cowardish enough not to try it,or they are here singing anonymously! lol

Pat... you took the words right out of my mouth!!!!
As bad as I am I would be mortified if any of my family or "real live" friends ever found me here and listened to me. (Mrs. Woof still refers to my online friends as my "imaginary friends")
Although, Mrs. Woof,UncleDave and I were at a party the other day and we got to talking with someone who seemed genuinely interested in the prospect of online karaoke. I even wrote the singsnap url on the back of my business card for her...
For all I know she's been on here recording song after song ever since... LOL Or hopefully (for my sake) she was too drunk and forgot the whole shebang...
Michelle123 ideas for the newsletter? let us hear you!
I started singing online because I don't have much time to get out and sing in the bars... That, and I'm asthmatic so being around smoke wasn't helping.
There are a few that know, but I only sing when no one is home so I can be as loud as I want. It's my stress relief... Before finding SS, I had set up my karaoke equipment (I'm a retired DJ/KJ) in the basement to sing.
my family knows I sing online but they don't know where LOL. They've heard me sing plenty live, so don't think they would care either way LOL.
One summer, I got my brother hooked on Streamkaraoke.com. but that was about as far as it got.
A few of my friends know and one of them sings online with me but on another site. I told him about this one but he rather do the mixing himself than mess with the sites mixer.

Some people hear the word "karaoke" and have images of drunken people singing I Will Survive offkey. Try to explain to them that it's different online, you can take your time and record as many times as you want until you get it right, in your own comfortable surroundings, and that it's not a live performance but you can hear thousands (or is it millions now) of stored recordings by some fantastic singers from around the world. If they keep laughing at that point, they're just intolerant people who won't ever try anything new, and will never know what they're missing.

You're quite right, PL, karaoke does have that rep, particularly for bar shows. Esp. here in Iowa where it's almost unheard of for karaoke to be available in a classy restaurant or bar. So the image is usually that of very drunk college age types or rednecks of all ages at the bar shows because that's who's usually there. Very few middle-aged, middle-class folks there.
I've invited dozens of people to join! I am constantly giving out the singsnap.com cards and tell them to message me when they join so that I can listen to them also...I have twenty or so friends on here that joined when they were invited...and I LOVE IT!

Here's a cute, heart-warming story.
A few months after I started on my sing snap addiction ("My name is woof and I'm a karaoke-holic)
I made the blunder of mentioning that I sing online karaoke to my co-workers during a coffee break. They badgered me incessantly for weeks to "reveal' the url to them so that they could come and poke fun at me. I held out for a long time, but one day my best buddy ( a "real" musician) was over at my house, and he finally talked me into letting him see this online karaoke stuff.
Wanting to impress him, I didn't want to pull any punches, so I started out by throwing the big guns at him; <br> I let him listen to songs by "Scribbly', "Sunshine Princess", "Agamoto", ( one of his serious attempts) and "Ragandbone" Needless to say, my friend was intrigued. I let him sing a couple of songs on my account, and then he went home, created his own account and was immediately "hooked" just like the rest of us.
(Why does this make me feel like a vampire?)
Anyhoo... He soon developed a following of fans and favorites, Got involved with a community or two, and eventually, met a lovely woman (in fact, arguably one of the most gifted singers on all of singsnap).. they began "cyber dating" and she finally flew here from the UK to visit him a few weeks ago.(he's going over there in a month) They both feel that they have found their soul mate, and all I can say is I can't remember the last time I've seen two people who were so completely in love!
That, in my humble opinion, is how something as silly as an online karaoke site can play an important role in creating something beautiful.

Karaoke is a big thing right now. In fact this past weekend they had the 6th Karaoke World Championships here in Finland with countries from all over the world taking part. I was in the 2004 event and came 11th out of 80 singers. Here's a link below to read all about this years winners, France and Australia! Cheers, Peter

Love to listen to others who have the same love of singing as I. I tell everyone and my work mates say I need to get a life but I dont care. I feel sorry for my family as they have to listen to me all the time but they never ever complain about me singing even my children when they have their mates over and it must be embarassing to them as they are 18 and 20 lol but I dont care. I agree with Werewolf and Ghost Writer. Karaoke means "The Way of Life" and it truly is. Why confine yourself to boredom? Why not express yourself without fear? What worst condamnation can you get by doing the least legal thing and yet find satisfaction and pleasure than Karaoke. I have been in the music ministry myself and yet I can sing secular songs as an artist. I've met people from all over as far as down under who came all the way to see me. Friends are everywhere but not found if you're hiding in the closet. So I encourage people who are just plain hypocrite to admit that they too are curious and very much interested to try. May I suggest the film "DUETS" for those who'd like to understand what KARAOKE is all about?

I think Alma from Chicago, who goes by ChicagoKAddict, here (I think) said it well with a caption she used to have with her name on another site, "Most people die with all of their music inside them", which is a pity.
I get the same thing but not from friends or stranger from my own family. My big brother and Mother especially razz me about it.My mom said i am a bad singer and who would want to listen to me sing anywhere. Since i don't go to karaoke bars anymore(too smoky and noisy) I sing online and at home with the old karaoke machine that hooks to your TV.

Of course, our families can certainly be a source of honest feedback. ( something which is not always easy to get here on singsnap, most people are just too nice, Just ask Kappy... LOL)
Just the other day I was in the midst of deleting a couple of hundred of my more crappy recordings, I was listening to one and asked Mrs. woof what she thought... Her reply was priceless:
"I think you should keep it, it's not nearly as terrible as a lot of your other recordings"
Reply by GlorihaGOLD on November 4, 2008 at 8:51 AM
Gloriha says the 6 winning lotto numbers, guaranteed to win, are 70159
Great story, Woofie; thanks for sharing :>
I like Mrs. Woof.....'imaginary friends' LOLOLOL - 'not nearly as terrible' ROFLMAOOOO
My family knows and supports my habit by not interrupting me when I'm recording; my formerly best friend, who I have nothing in common with now 'cause all I do is sing, knows; I sent several links to my sister in Wyoming; never heard a word from her so I, in a very adult manner, delete all her emails without reading; my boss knows, makes fun of me, and used to bug me about knowing my screen name; he even perused the site one time. I sent him some songs that I converted into MP3s so he wouldn't know my s/n but he never said anything. I don't know that he even listened :(
I've mentioned it to several people when in the music store buying stuff; no one's said anything about it really.
I tried live karaoke a few times..... until I get more comfortable, I like the do-over feature and the pitch changer way too much to sing live, plus I have no one to go with.
I have many 'imaginary friends' online too. I actually have a cyber family: 5 cyber sisters (maybe more; I lost track) and a cyber brother.
Cathy, roarcat, my first cyber sister and virtual twin, was here in May and is coming to visit again NEXT WEEK!!! Woohoo! We will have a lot more time to sing than just the 5 hours we had in May....watch out!

My online life has always been kept separate. I like it that way. My kids don't know I do it, neither do my friends or other members of my family.
Much the same as Pat there it started off as stress relief; therapy if you will. It's MY thing. I guard it fiercely.

Since i don't go to karaoke bars anymore(too smoky and noisy) I sing online and at home with the old karaoke machine that hooks to your TV.

werewoof says: a penny for your thoughts, $20 to act them outOf course, our families can certainly be a source of honest feedback.
LMAO!!!!!

Gloriha says the 6 winning lotto numbers, guaranteed to win, are 70159Great story, Woofie; thanks for sharing :>
