I saw Wanderlei Silva win at Pride in Osaka, Japan a couple of years back. does that count?

I love K1 :) Jerome Le Banner and Remy Bonjasky.
Saw the New Years Eve K1/MMA Grand Prix live in Osaka a couple months back.

But I only know the Japanese contests, tho my Gym advisor is training hard for MMA here in London. He is so focussed!

Hope you can find some MMA pals on here...
as I am a girly..MMA is not a participant sport for me but I love martial arts, kick-boxing and boxing! :)

Couple of big fights coming up...Matt Serra v George St. Pierre I'm picking St. Pierre to win. That's on April 19th
Kimbo Slice v Ron "H2O" Waterman on May 31st...televised on network TV here in the States...I'm picking Kimbo on that one

If you like MMA, you should check out a Lei Tai tournament some time...

As a student of of Shaolin martial arts, I have a hard time getting into MMA... Nothing wrong with MMA, just can't really get into it... *shrug*

I AGREE CAN'T REALLY GET INTO IT. THERE IS NO MEDITATION IN THAT FORM, BUT "PILATES", NOW THERES A SPORT. TRYING NOT TO SPLIT OR CRUSH YOUR SCROTUM. THAT TAKES FORM AND FOCUS.

Alright, we need to revitalize this thread for sure, I have always kind of stood on the outside of being an MMA fan, I was raised on wrestling. But over the last year or so, I have started following more and more MMA.
I'd like to start off by throwing out a thought...
After last Saturday night, am I the only one thinking that sure he may be great in the streets and backyards, but in the ring with rules and actual atheletes, Kevin Ferguson(KiMbo Slice) is a joke. He barely pulled that fight against Thompson out of some left field, up somebodies butt...First off Thompson is a second rate fighter at best, and he had Kimbo down for 80% of the fight. Kimbo got a lucky shot and busted open his cauliflower ear that we all knew was gonna pop any minute anyway. Come on now...
Dana White is oh so correct when he says Kimbo would get murdered in the UFC, he has never fought anybody of stature. Rampage Jackson could annihilate Kimbo and he is like a middleweight or something like that...

Yeah I agree! Although Kimbo makes for a great character he's not a great MMA fighter but ya gotta start somewhere. Training with Bas Rutten, he can only get better. Thompson got him down but Kimbo didn't look that bad on the ground, he was on his back alot, but he was able to stand back up except for when Thompson had him stuffed up against the cage. But I question his stamina.

What did they call Thompson's cauliflower ear? An alien life-form growing from his head? That had to be one of the worst cauliflower ears I've seen in a long time.

Yeah, The alien life form, that was it.

You know I have seen the cauliflower ear on fighters before, but it was never swollen and full of fluid at any point I saw it. Always dried up and look like the ear was inside out or something.
I heard a thing on the radio the other day where it is rumored Thompson was going to have it drained the day before, but the promoters said it would drive up the ratings and such if it was busted open and he bled on TV. Since it is not life threatening, supposedly Thompson people were OK with this. I don't know, this is off the radio. He kind of looked like Sloth from the goonies movie. LOL.
So what do you think about CB on the Ultimate Fighter, think he has what it takes to win the show? I think it's either him or Jesse. I'll take CB.

The only MMA fighter I don't want to miss fight is
Gina Carano, aka "Crush" on American Gladiator.
Not only is she easy on the eyes, but she seems
sweet and down to earth..out of the ring.
In the ring she's a Tiger.

I want to see her fight Tara Larosa, considered
the best women MMA fighter today. That fight
would rock! Go Gina!

RE: Cauliflower ear, most fighters drain them before the fight so that they don't explode. That's the reason why you rarely see them that big. Not sure what Thompson was thinking.

RE: Kimbo, I think him getting a shot at MMA is just fine. Him getting a main event on the first MMA show on network tv was ludicrous. Against any half decent heavyweight, heck even light heavyweight, he'd get his ass handed to him. He's too loose on the ground (mainly due to inexperience but that's the point). Don't even get me started on cardio.

Things I'm looking forward to:

Matt Sera getting his face beaten AGAIN (not a huge hughes fan but I'll root for him against that asshat).

Urijah Faber moving up a weight class so he can fight in the UFC against Tyson Griffin. Gotta love the 145 and 155 divs haha.

Yeah, I saw her on that Elite XC thing on CBS, she is hot as all get up, and she can fight too. I had saw her on American Gladiators earlier in the year, but didn't put 1 and 1 together until I read a magazine article with her recently.

Yeah his cardio is horrible, but that is from all those 90 second street fights. Did you see the end of the fight, when the ref called it, Slice literally fell out, he was so exhausted....

Does anyone watch that Tapout show on Versus? I really dig the layout of the episodes, profiling an up and comer, it is pretty cool, and the Tapout gang are real characters.

I would have to agree on the Kimbo Slice fight. It was a joke, he's not all he's cracked up to be. If they were to throw him in with anyone who could actually fight he wouldn't last. And as far as the fights that elite xc put on network tv on the 31st, it was a horrible showing for the sport. High caliber shows like the UFC or WEC would never waste as much time as they did. What was with Phil baroni's entrance??? It was like watching Rocky IV when Apollo Creed came in to fight the russian. Way to much talking and not enough fighting. Fight of the night in my opinion was Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith.

Did you see that Lawler and Smith are main eventing the next TV showing...I think they said middle of July, I forget the exact date.

What do you think about the announcement last week from UFC? All their merchandising is about to blow up. They cut a deal with a bunch of stores to carry their clothing, including JCPenneys, Walmart, etc...Also, Jakks Pacific is going to begin making action figures of the fighters. Mostly big names, and legends, but still, that is pretty cool. Can't wait to see the Octagon playset, lol...

What about that finale? Jesse Taylor had it in his hands. Because I really don't think Amir could beat him.
I will admit though I was more shocked to see Amir beat CB, than I was with Jesse's behavior.

What about Forrest taking it to Rampage? I was happy, yet a little disappointed...I'm all for Forrest, but Jackson didn't look like himself in there.....I think Forrest was not only classy, but correct in stating that we would definitely have to do it again...
