werewoof 's got a rock and roll... he's got a rock and roll heart.......
So today I was at work... I got out a tool that I've had for quite a while... I smiled upon looking at the mangled corner of the plastic case where my puppy had chewed on it... Then a thought struck me... That dog died of old age three years ago....
Funny how something that made us so mad at the time eventually becomes something we look upon with fondness just for the memories it conjures up...

I'm with you on those feelings, Mark. My best friend of 18 years died last year....of old age, and I miss her terribly every single day. I see things every day that remind me of her, and when I look at my other two dogs, I think about how I hope they'll both be with me just as long.

I still think of , and miss ,my two Yorkshire Terrier dogs, Mitzie and Lady,They were sisters .One had to be put to sleep in January 2002,and the other one in November 2003, both through Illnesses. It broke my heart on both occasions, and I still shed tears over them.I would love to have another dog , but I won't ,because I wouldn't be able to stand the heartache of going through losing another dog at some stage .
I HAVE A PICTURE...WHICH I HAVE JUST BEEN LOOKIN AT ON TOP OF THE TV of my old cat...Tabitha...she was put to sleep 2 years ago...after being with me for 20 years. My son and I often see things that remind us of her...and we cry....she was my lil girl.....and i will always miss her

:(
But just think.....if you adopted a pet who needs a home...and there are so many out there in this world who need us to help them......you'd be giving love to an animal who otherwise might not ever get it. If I could, I'd adopt about 20 more dogs. (we already have that many cats, that's plenty!).
I lost my first dog Benson, a lovely collie/ red setter cross, about 11 years ago. He had a rare cancer. He was an absolutely fantastic dog.
After about 6 months I got another dog, Monty, a greyhound lurcher. He was a rescue dog with a terrible past and he had a lot of problems, bless him. He was put to sleep last March, his estimated age was about 15, and hubby and we swore we wouldn't have another dog.
I am a volunteer dog walker at the local shelter and in April Harry, a saluki lurcher, was brought in in a pitiful state. I was the first to walk him after he came out of isolation (mange and other horrid things) and he adopted me.
Last July he came home with us and now the whole process starts again.

Don't apologize M&M....
This isn't exclusively a dog thread... Just a thread about warm memories of loving companions who have passed on.
We had to put our cat "Nick" to sleep last year. He was a big ol' hairy maine coon... Had more personality than any three cats I've ever known...
That was the first time A pet has put us in the position to have to "make the decision"... The others before have always had the decency to just up and die and take the decision out of our hands...
That day at the vets office was just about the toughest, most heart-wrenching day of my life!
Butr getting back to my buddy with the penchant for chewing plastic tool boxes...
His Name was Bannor, He was an Alaskan Malamute..
And to echo Micha.. Yeah, the house really is empty without a dog.....

Adopt one, woofie.
I asked my guy if we could get another dog, thereby making it a 3 dog household again....to a resounding NO. He didn't even take a second to think it through. *sigh*
So, I might do something like Micha is doing, and go volunteer my time at a shelter soon.
I was asked by my best friend this summer if I'd come dog/house sit for her this February while she goes on vacation to Mexico. Didn't take me but a nano-second to answer "absolutely, yes, yes yes yes!"
I love dogs. lol. And hers are so cool. I've known the eldest of those two boys all his life, so he's really special to me. Like a little nephew. lol
Well since we are talking about animals in general, my cat died while I was away on vacation in Canada. It is like she waited till I was gone to decide she could die. Almost as if she wanted to spend every moment with me before she left me. It was so upsetting to get that news over the phone.
But I was one of the very few ppl she would allow to hold her. I guess she really did love me even if she acted aloof at times.

:( (((((((((( Jubi ))))))))))))...I'm so sorry. That's just so sad!!! How old was she? What was her name???
I'm such an animal lover! I get sad when other people's animals die, too. :(
Here is a very special poem...unknown author. When our baby pug died of distemper, it helped me get past the pain I felt. Hope it helps you too. It doesn't just apply to dogs though...ALL animals are included.
The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called The Rainbow Bridge because of it's many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail are made young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The eyes staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group! You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
I hope this gives some comfort to those who have loved and lost a precious and loving friend, believing you will see that friend again someday.

god!!!!! If only that was possible... Sadly, we're stuck in this house for the foreseeable future . ( thanks to the real estate bubble and the current economy) Our yard backs up to a wooded wetlands area that is riddled with swamp creatures. we are constantly getting cottonmouths, rattlesnakes and pygmy rattlers in our yard.
I could never in good conscience put a dog into a perilous environment like that. So until things turn around economically, We shall have to remain dogless.
