I have found that if I disagree with Ari but show her respect do not attack her and her beliefs personally and lace things with a bit of humour now and then well .... we seem to have no problems and I may venture to say Ari and I have actually learned to like each other.
Just because you do not agree with or like what Ari stands for is not a good reason that I can see to call her ignorant, mean-spirited and intolerant (which is, I believe, how your comment translates.)

It is not the fact that I disagree with her political beliefs ( I have many friends who I disagree with politically and religiously) what gets me is the degree in which some are able to treat people and have double standards. They expect the world to everything for them yet they won't move an inch for the world. The fact that some can't apologize when they know they are wrong and the fact that people who have done less have been hit a lot harder than she ever will be on here. Its just sad really.

I am a bartender/server, I only get paid $2.13 an hour. I donate half of my paycheck, which aint much to begin with to the Brinker( company I work for) fund but something is better than nothing. This fund is there for the worker in case of emergencies. Wether it be health care and has become bed ridden for a few months and needs money to pay for bills. Or perhaps their house or apartment complex burnt down and all their belongings parished in flames. This money goes to help them get back on their feet. To see the smiles on their faces, is so wonderful. To help my fellow neighbor, my fellow christian....
No it's sad to see Americans who think looking out for number one and ignoring other folks in need.
So much for looking out for your brothers and sisters here on earth. So much for being your brother's keeper. People are afraid in the States of something that many people in Canada would fight to preserve - socialized medicine.
People who live in socialistic countries do not understand what it is like living in a free country. They do not understand that certain Americans would fight to preserve their way of life... freedom.
Well your response was in reply to my statement that we have socialized medicine in Canada so the implication is that if we have socialized medicine then we do not understand what it's like living in a free country.
Since Canada is a free country and we love our freedom then how could we not understand what it's like living in a free country?
I understand what it is like living in a free country and for me socialized medicine gives me more freedom.
If I lived in the U.S. without socialized medicine with the health issues I have in my life I would be homeless by now having to pay the medical bills. Either that or I would be either very very ill or dead by now.
So socialized medicine gives me the freedom to live a healthy life and contribue to society in the work I do without being so financially stressed that I could not contribute as I do.
BTW we do pay a monthly premium for our medical care and we believe that everyone has a right to good medical care regardless of their financial situation.l This does not make us 'un-free'.
Yes I do understand what it is to live in a free country and in my free country I am better off than I would be in yours.
And my socialized medicine is one of the best things about my free country.
Deb, you said you pay a monthly fee for your medical care. Is this a payroll deduction or do you just have to pay it? Also is the amount you pay based on your income?
I wonder if Canada is similar to the UK in that it is a payroll deduction, and is a percentage of 'taxable earnings'. For example, in the UK you can earn up to a certain amount a week (I think £80) before you become eligable to pay National Insurance (our contributions to state welfare programs such as pensions, unemployment & sickness benefit as well as medical care).
Every UK resident has access to our social health care system. We also take care of European residents under a reciprocal agreement (we bill their government).
I pay about £140 a month. It's a trivial amount of money, especially when I consider how much security I have as a result, and how much money I would have had to pay out had there been no health care.
If I want to have private health care I can, and I would pay an additional premium to a health insurer. I would still have to pay national insurance though, which I think is perfectly reasonable seeing as it covers a lot more than merely my medical care.
A lot of complementary therapy is available on the NHS, and if I want to go to a herbalist, nobody stops me.
I cannot understand why you would want to see your neighbour suffer through your own selfish greed Ari. Are you seriously expecting us to believe that you would turn a blind eye to someone else's pain and illness?

I know that I would help in a heartbeat as I stated before, I do just that at work, comes straight out of my paycheck every 2 weeks.
One of my co-workers had a horrible accident last week. He is 21yo, a college student, bartender/server that barely makes ends meet cus work is slow at the moment. So, he could not afford to pay for insurance anymore. Actually, if your work hours become less than full time you lose work insurance. So, alot of have lost that insurance. Anyways, his accident was horrible. He may lose his sight from his right eye, lots of facial injuries, had to have his brain open to stop internal bleeding and swelling and he was in a coma up until a few days ago. He was hit head on by an older man with alzeihmers driving on the wrong side of the interstate, both going at 50mph( 100mph collision). So, now the money that most of us contribute from our paycheck is going towards his medical bills. I am so glad I can help him, it may not be alot but I am helping in some way. It makes me feel good. Got to see him a few days ago. He was cracking jokes but awaiting more surgeries.

This thread is in regard to health care in America. I understand, since you're not an American, that you don't understand what living in America is all about. Therefore, there is no debate in this regard.

As a non-citizen, you're not required to pay taxes, Cheeky. Do you understand that our taxes pay for the health care of the poor? According to Obama's plan, we must now pay for illegals' health care. That means less money in my pocket to choose the alternative health care I prefer, which I'm simply unwilling to sacrifice...enough is enough!
Arizonagal wrote:If you lived in a free country, you wouldn't have to ask that question.
Stop telling people who live in free countries that we don't live in free countries.
I live in a free country - Canada. Looking out for my fellow Canadians does not shackle me. I would feel less free if I could not have the medical care I need.
And the next time you talk about freedom in the U.S. go talk to folks who can't afford medical care for their families and who must go into horrific debt and lose their mortgages to pay for medical bills. I don't think they feel very free.

Ari, I'm asking YOU to explain what you meant, as I cannot see how you would sacrifice any health care options.
Where I live has naff all to do with it, if your country is 'free' why are people dying because of a third world healthcare system?

Cheekylilvixen feliz dia de dar gracias! ~ happy thanksgiving everyone! :)Because, wicca, it doesn't benefit her in anyway. She will not help her fellow christian, neighbor. Hmm, so ari, if you won't help pay for anyone but yourself, where does that leave your family, if they are ever in need? I am sure your kids are grown-up, married or on their own, so it is not your place to "support" them anymore, right?

This thread is in regard to health care in America. I understand, since you're not an American, that you don't understand what living in America is all about. Therefore, there is no debate in this regard.

What do you suppose paying taxes is all about, Cheeky? I mean, I understand that you're not a U.S. citizen and haven't read the U.S. Constitution since you were a girl...but...why you don't understand this very simple concept?

I have no clue why you are so anxious for Joe Biden to be your president but ok...

At least he's a U.S. citizen...and if he stopped consuming alcohol, perhaps he'd be able to communicate without putting his foot in his mouth.

Cheekylilvixen feliz dia de dar gracias! ~ happy thanksgiving everyone! :)I know what paying taxes is all about ... Just cus I have not read the const. in forever does not mean I am ignorant either. If you answer my question, it may help me understand, how about it, Ari?

As a non-citizen, you're not required to pay taxes, Cheeky. Do you understand that our taxes pay for the health care of the poor? According to Obama's plan, we must now pay for illegals' health care. That means less money in my pocket to choose the alternative health care I prefer, which I'm simply unwilling to sacrifice...enough is enough!

Stop telling people who live in free countries
that we don't live in free countries.
I live in a free country - Canada.
Looking out for my fellow Canadians
does not shackle me. I would feel less free
if I could not have the medical care I need.
And the next time you talk about freedom in the U.S.
go talk to folks who can't afford medical care for their families
and who must go into horrific debt
and lose their mortgages
to pay for medical bills. I don't think they feel very free.
