I enjoyed my couple of years here but have decided to move on.
It's a great site, or at least the concept was in it's earlier stages but as with most commercial ventures it is getting colder and colder and the concept is wearing thin.
The 'message board', in my opinion, does far more damage than good and is nothing more than a venting point, though I do agree, this was not the original intention ........ or, I would hope at least.
I did enjoy singing and found some fantastic friends and accomplished vocalists.
Sadly, I measured the number of listens commensurate to the effort I put in to a song and it just doesn't seem worth it.
I leave behind a song for a lovely young lady who kept me here, because I felt obliged to honour her patronage. She knew full well I would never ever pay to sing, but knew also I would never leave when someone believed in me to the extent she did.
I hope to see the best of you somewhere around the net.
Sorry to see you go Mal although I can sense the reasons. You are a talented vocalist and I wish you the best for the future wherever your passion for singing takes you.
Save your most precious 100 recordings for when you turn blue...and then hopefully, when/if you decide to return, you may find comments on them that weren't expected.

No Fear of him turning Blue... :)
Mal.....I don't have to tell you how i feel about this... :(((((
Do what I try to do- More focus on the singing, and less reading and time in the general bboards and OT bboards, yep they CAN really be a "bummer".. and get to me too at times...I can fully understand how bboards can displace why some of us joined and run us down assuming our focus becomes some of the content I'd just assume stay far away from... There are a few music threads that are pretty decent, we can even form a musicians IC and stick to singing and recording tips.... Let's instead of letting some of the bboard stuff get to us, get more into the music stuff.... I'd love that, it's why I joined and I PROMISED myself to never ever let bboard stuff become a preoccupation because it DOES have it's issues... There's just too much talent in here to let the singing aspects of Singsnap take backstage to frustrations that transpire among the bboards... I'd love to have an IC for musicians, and those interested in recording problem is few seem to want the more serious music stuff.... when it gets down to trying to implement that.
This reply has been moderated due to violation of forums rules or Terms of Service.Well, you do have a way of putting things Steven ...... even if it takes most of an evening sometimes. :-) I'll put it bluntly then. Singing for me requires a response in order for me to sing more. I recently read Hayley Westenra's book and am much the same as regards outlook, though perhaps a little less in talent and ego. In all honesty, most people on here could have more in there living room listening live than the responses they get in true listeners. It is a valid point I make, hopefully and maybe Trevor will address it.

When I first joined SS, just over 2 yrs. ago, I recorded a duet with you, "Unforgettable". You were one of the first vocalists I listened to, and I've not forgotten how great your voice is. I don't usually listen/comment. (I'm much too involved on the message board. lol)

Well, I don't have much left in my living room.. Dead plants I suppose, a few roaches with earplugs that never got the chance to escape before dying a treacherous death, but part of what you mention is that Karaoke vs. Serious Musician/Singer divide.. Wish there was a means for the Musician Singers to have an accepted place within Karaoke sites because the seriousness and needs of those very into the artform are not the same as those that just want to Sing Karaoke.. Sort've like playing Charades vs those that are actors... Some musicians don't perceive areas such as this as a "game"... Whole mentality is different, and conflicts do ensue regarding the clash. Regarding the true listeners... I get a few, enough to help me learn... I know when folks aren't being genuine, but I'm learning, a different stage than somebody such as you that has loads of experience... It's the session training tool aspect of singing here most valuable to me... Sad thing is we'll never likely get Karaoke, and "Singers" to see anything eye to eye regarding purpose of the experience. I'd rather have my dead plants and no listeners that aren't true listeners... and it seems lately that's what's happening, so I have no complaints I suppose :) 0 listeners aren't uncommon for me...LOL, but It's not going to deter me from trying to learn how to kill fewer living things with my God awful voice. Audience or not, one of these days, just maybe... OK, enough of this pipe dream.
Well Mal. I'm sure all of us begging you to stay won't change your mind. So let me just wish you all the best in whatever you endeavor to accomplish. And be assured that you will indeed be missed.
Jubi has temporarily left the belief boards and moved towards peace
Mal,
You are one of the best singers on this site. I have always known your views to be far more than mine would ever be. Infact your recordings have inspired me to better my vocal abilities and expand my selection of songs. So I am truly baffled you are leaving. But you must have your reasons. So I wish you well wherever and whatever you choose after Singsnap. You will be missed.
Never heard Mal sing, but I have seen him around in here often enough to know that he is good natured, well balanced, educated and polite (even to the window lickers). People like that stick out like a sore thumb on public message boards! Rare indeed, and will be sadly missed I think. It's all about equilibrium; bothers me when the belligerant get even a minor victory.
With that in mind, I find Mal's reasons for leaving a little uncomfortable to fathom. Certainly, you have never come across as egocentric, but perhaps the former professional side of you does require that modicum of adulation in order to satisfy the effort you put in. Can't get my head around that, cos if I relied on views and comments keeping me here I wouldn't have lasted 2 months never mind 2 years. I mean, will you actually stop singing altogether? I doubt that, and since you have a talent for it (Katie's word is good enough for me) and obviously enjoy it why stop doing it in here? Then again, I'm a closet singer (NOBODY knows I do this) so perhaps our reasons for being here are quite different.
Still, each to their own. Good luck with whatever you do next.
I agree with ReallyMad on basing the number of views for a reason to leave, if that's the case I should pack it up now and leave. You can 'generate' people to stop by and listen by posting on some of the newly and old recording threads or by listening to others and leaving them comments. And the backside of this is that some may leave comments on peoples recordings and not necessarily mean it or listen to the whole recording or even at all (cut and paste comments). So I to couldn't grasp this as a reason to leave and really it's up to us to 'advertise' ourselves if we so choose to get a massive amount of comments. Take care Mal, whatever you decide.
Sorry to see you go Mal. Although my voice is shite compared to yours (I freely admit it, no one forced me to say it) lol ..... If I had to decide whether to stay or leave just because of the number of views to hard work ratio, then I would have left a long long time ago. I don't put enough effort into making my songs as polished and professional as Yours (and it shows) I very rarely do more than one takes. I sing for me (and my girl) And that in itself is reason enough for me to stay. I've had enough none listening spam on my songs to open up a spam factory and I admit that it pisses me off big time:-) Good Luck Mal.

Thank you Kerry ..... i'll try to respond to replies whilst online and I know you too are serious about singing for the most part.
I don't think anyone could reasonably expect to get anywhere other than a few listens here.
I don't expect a career now anyway ...... I was a professional and left the music business to teach.
Maybe Trevor could employ an industry talent scout.
