lol...i wouldnt say ptsd is contagious at all...i have it and have for years my husband never got it....maybe can get family members a little irritated and depressed living with someone like me but LOL to the ptsd contagious

you were a combat medic in veitnam? how old were you? they just sent people young and classified them as medics? im trying to understand..because i would think you would have to go to school for a long time to be a medic of anysort.

I think it is entirely possible he had ptsd... He listened on a daily basis to people telling him what horrors they experienced. Then he finds out he himself is going to go experience it first hand. He probably freaked out realizing he was going to be right in the middle of all the things he heard these other soldiers talking about.. that would be enough to put most people over the edge.

Psychiatrists have a high rate of stress leave in mainstream simply because they deal with high stress situations and dealing with people who have gone through major trauma's .. if you are HUMAN you cannot HELP but be affected by hearing these horrible things over and over.

To say that there is no way he could have ptsd is ludacris. Everyone deals with stress differently and he obviously was affected greatly by the things he heard and if he was not very stable to begin with then you have a ticking time bomb.

I'm not saying it's contagious...it's not a virus that you can catch from breathing in somebody's germs or touching the same door knob. It's not something you are born with or contract unless you have been traumatized...hence the title.

However, there are many forms of trauma. There are many situations a person could be faced with that would lead to PTSD...it's most certainly not limited to combat veterans. I wouldn't say that PTSD is definately "why" this particular incident happened but it's not impossible either. As a psychiatrist treating combat veterans with PTSD how could that not affect him? How could somebody sit and listen to people so traumatized that they need psychiatric help for however many hours every day and never have it affect them? We're all human, none of us are superheros.

While I understand your anger towards the labelling of what he did, I find your post highly inappropriate and unnecessary. People are going to form their own opinions on matters and your tantrum won't change that.

For the record...I don't consider PTSD a valid reason for killing innocent people...it most certainly is not, but I don't agree that it's impossible for him to experience it just because he wasn't in combat.

I can't say i've ever endured combat, nor do I wish to...but i'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Nobody here, who hasn't been in combat, is claiming to know anything about it. Some of us however, have experienced traumatic events that i'm sure many of you know nothing about either. Just because somebody has not personally experienced that trauma doesn't make them less empathetic about it.

However, I lived my life on the front lines every day of my childhood expecting some form of terror to descend upon me...so to say that only members of the military who have seen combat can have PTSD is a fallacy.

This Islamic Extremeist, this Major dude, who shot and killed the 13 soldiers and wounded about 30 others, will hopefully be executed after he gets well enough to stand trial. What else can you do with a guy like this?
