trevor > it's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see...
I want to address the many questions and comments that we receive on a regular basis with respect to content. One of our primary objectives is to have the best library of legally licensed songs available for your use. By “best” we refer to quantity, quality and depth. There are multiple levels of copyright clearances that are required and licenses can vary depending on territory. In some cases the rights simply cannot be licensed appropriate to our use. A license that may be perfectly acceptable to one group is not acceptable to a different group for the same use. Certain copyright holders are more willing to embrace new media uses and work with us as we carve new territory and create incremental sources of revenue for them. Others are not. A tremendous amount of time and money goes into this effort. These factors change over time and what was not available to use today may be all right to use tomorrow. This is to a large part beyond our control and why we make no guarantee as to the availability of content or user recordings in our Terms of Service. Having said that, I want to remind you that we do everything in our power to have the best library of songs available for your use.
I see people request a specific song or artist and get very frustrated if the content is not added to our offering. It is not as simple as buying a CDG or otherwise acquiring the backing track. In some cases artists can refuse their content for this use and in other cases a rights holder may. Just because content is available on other sites does not mean it is available for use on SingSnap, even though we may desire it and be willing to pay for it. It really is not that simple. This is why some songs may not be available in every country as well.
We are building SingSnap as a long term, stand alone, sustainable business. We conduct ourselves in a professional and ethical fashion. As such we take the issue of copyright very seriously. Should a question arise as to the validity of any of our rights or their enforceability in a specific territory, we take immediate action. Unfortunately this may require the removal of songs and user recordings on a temporary or permanent basis with no notice, depending on the circumstance. This is something that we really strive to avoid but does happen on occasion. When it does happen it does not mean that we are unwilling to pay, that SingSnap is shutting down, that this is happening because we are selling memberships or that the site is otherwise in jeopardy. It simply means that we have a business situation that we are working to resolve. Of course, this may also mean that certain songs that have been removed are once again made available.
We try to provide as much detail as we can to keep you informed as to this matter and what is happening. For practical, legal and competitive reasons we do not post a list of songs removed or songs that have been re-added. I refuse to answer some of the more direct questions that I am asked on these threads and in private messages as I feel some are unreasonable and the level of detail requested could undermine our position.
Cheekylilvixen oi vey, forgot what a hangover felt like lol
So well put! Thank you, Trevor. I hope this does calm some of the members. I figured as much, as to what you have said. Thus why I don't get as upset as some do. Sure it can be upsetting to lose some of the songs but their is not much I can do about it but to sit, wait and hope for the best. This is a business and you must do what is best for it to remain in business.
WELL FOR ME IT CLEARED UP THE ISSUE OF POSTING A LIST OF LIC. SONGS AN RETIRNED LIC. SONGS .. TY TREVOR... BTW I AM LOOKING FOR A LONG TERM STAY IN THIS SITE ALSO . THAT IS WHY I SIGNED UP FOR A 1 YR GOLD PACKAGE YESTERDAY. IF I DIDNT BELIEVE OR HAD FAITH IN WHAT IS BEING TOLD TO US BY YOU AN THE STAFF I WOULDN'T OF PAID A YEAR UPFRONT ..
KEEP UP THE HARD WORK IN MAKING THIS AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE ..
I'm glad you made this statement. And it's not like you haven't expressed these points on the board before.
I too get discouraged when I constantly see complaining about this very topic over and over again. You should not be bombarded by PMs concerning more detail. This IS a business you are running! How many CEO's answer petty complaints from thier customers?? NONE!!! You explain enough on these threads.
If folks don't like your explainations, let them go elsewhere...and then ask the owner of THAT site why they don't have this or that or why is it like this. Then let me know how quickly and EFFICIENTLY they personally answer you questions!!
Sorry Trevor, just had to get that off my chest! I heart Singsnap!!
grammatea4u how do you spell relax...s i n g s n a p
You know what this just put into full force what I love about this site. BEING INFORMED... Even though I may not be in the board room when decisions are made, the decision makers let us know what's going on..Also they listen to our ideas..They might implement them all, but at least they listen. Also I must comment Trevor and staff for their thick stomachs...They're dealing with a very passionate user base here and sometimes we do get quite heated, but they haven't closed the door on us..YOU GUYS ARE WONDERFUL(even when we get upset from time to time)
Trevor, it is very courteous and informative of you to post replies for the members here at snap... You are not obligated in any way to do so, but it is great public relations and explains what is happening perfectly.....no if's, and's or buts.
You (we) have a great site here that provides ALL of us a way and means of enjoyment and many hours of fun and entertainment. I want to personally thank you, Trevor, and all the staff for your hard work and dedication in providing us this awesome site. It IS my home away from home. lol What a great way to bring thousands of people from around the world together.... :))))

but i did Not delete the video recordings that were lic'ed cause they are from my old house and could never be done the same(i look different now also)
Thanks trevor for taking the time to enlighten us on the situ..it`s always best to hear these things direct from source and not someone else`s whim or idea of what might be happeniing..i don`t believe in the strategy...of too many chiefs..again..ty for coming forward and speaking (as it were) directly to us.

Thanks Trevor, for opening up some more and letting us in! I have never felt it was your fault! Unfortunately, being we don't have the true culprits to go after, you wind up being the one getting beaten up! Not saying that to try to get more info, just stating fact!
I'm sure I will probably vent my frustrations on the message board from time to time still! But, it's my only venue, because the people that you are having to deal with on the LIC issue are too cowardly to take the lumps for their greed!
I'm sure I will also still have my criticisms of how things are conducted on here as a customer service site! I am a customer service professional! Unfortunately, there are several concepts of how customer service should be conducted and I like the people that subscribe to the other concepts think that mine is the only right way! LMBO!
I have no intention of going anywhere! There are a lot of people on SS that are my family and I would hate to lose them! Singsnap is also, despite our issues, still the best around!

My only question and one that im sure many would like answering if you could:
Will these songs come back as 'gold' songs? Seems to me that a cull of some of the most standard traditional and classic songs 'Over The Rainbow' for instance cannot be in 2008 restricted for licensing purposes, and whilst modern day songs we understand are under strict scrutiny and therefore forcing the issue for you guys to have to remove offending material, how can this apply to songs that are over 50 years old.
You can see the more sceptical amongst us would wonder if these songs suddenly come back and are gold what the intention is and whilst there is no doubting that there are legal issues to right, may an opportunity have been taken too for 'business' purposes?
Given that I see no new ‘blue’ songs in the arrivals for some time now (going back 18 pages of new songs) this seems to be a good question.
Thank you so much Trevor..I think you have said it all and hopefully will clear the air for all of the sing snappers...Sing snap is the best ever!!!!!!!!!!! Lets all just enjoy what we have today and make the best of the tomorrows, yet to come...

I feel for those who take pride and/or lost a meaningful recording, and Im sure Trevor does too.Its sad,Ill agree to that.
REMEMBER,do NOT delete your LIC songs because they MAY come back! just let them sit there quietly and hope they return eventually.
