Seems to me that voting is the issue here. It's not a competition...it's an exhibition. Why do we even have to vote?

Also, since blues can't nominate anymore, they also start spamming PM's even more frequently, cus they can still be nominated into the HOF LOL. If it's not one thing, it is another LOL. Oi, the blocks are gonna get worn out on this one LOL. I seen in the suggestion folder about being able to PM more than one person at a time. OMG, that will create chaos, if something like that is implemented. Some will use i like it should but others will take advantage of it and use it as spamming 20 people at once LOL. Ok, I am gonna scare myself if I keep thinking this way LOL ;)

Made me laugh.........maybe the site should have one of those spam buttons..........we click on spam and it reports it, just like in email accounts..........then if someone spams too much they get into trouble..........just a thought.

Now that's a thought! A spam button, I LIKE IT! lol

As for the HOF itself, I don't think their can be a true defenition of who should be there, on this site at least. Some think that only the talented should be there and I think anyone can be there. If you have a song in your heart, than you should be there. I just don't like being told to nominate someone just cus they spammed my PM box! The more someone persists me, it annoys me and that just leads me to not want to nominate them. I don't respond to spam in emails, what makes anyone think I am going to respond to spam on SS?LOL

If one is to get on the HOF, I think the recording should reflect just that. If people like your recording and find it worthy of getting on the HOF, then so be it. BUT spamming their PM's for the nominations is low to me. Let your recording do the talking or singing, in this case LOL.

That's where I stand on that subject.

I think tho that nominations should count per IP address and that would cut down on the cheating ... Anyway to implement that, guys?

Even better yet Cheeky - have the voting be tabulated using the user's MAC address - much more difficult to manipulate and very DOABLE technically as the MAC address is sent with each transmission of packets across the internet. IP addresses can change if a user has dynamic IP addresses compared to static IP addresses.

Would that be fair, tho? In my house, there are 3 of us SS members, and from time to time, we all use the same computer. Would my household be forced to accept a voting restriction? Just a thought.

Anyhow, I am more curious about the noms not expiring. There are some who have spammed their way to the top. Why reward them by keeping them there through perpetuity? All they have to do is get enough of their clique to nominate and they are set at the top, while newer fresher material will be subject to these new restrictions.
Sounds a bit tilted to me, Per, but what do I know? I just searched through 50 pages, 20 songs per page and I ain't there. No skin off my back for the HOF!

Can I sell my noms? Anyone wanting to make me an offer I cannot refuse? ;-)

Edited to add the smile/wink to the last part, coz it was meant to be funny. But if somebody wants to take me seriously, there is room for negotiation;-)

Rm1985 happy turkey day everyone!!! :d

Well I am not supposed to comment on the Boards but I am gonna give my suggestion anyway. :-)

All accounts now require your e-mail to be validated. Why not require all HOF nominations to be validated in the same way. You nominate a song and an e-mail is sent to the address to be validated. Then if anyone wanted to create multiple accounts they would have to validate each nomination. This would be much more tedious and time consuming. The song can only be nominated once. This means the users would have to create a fake e-mail, sign up for a blue account, validate the e-mail, nominate the song, and then validate the nomination. That's a lot of work to get one nomination. Plus, the basic structure of the validation system is already in use.

This system would allow the Blue users to keep keep their nominations.

About expiration:

One of the reasons we added the expiration in the first place was that we didn't want a ton of nominations being counted infinitely even though the member was not active for example. Now that we only allow Gold this is not really needed anymore since all Golds are active (otherwise their payment would stop and they'd turn Blue).

Anyway, I may add some sliding scale to the "points" so that newer nominations are given more value, we'll see...

One of these days hobo you are gonna have to name names on these so called pros.

ok i will sir . anyone who thinks there songs are top shelf over the folks who just love to sing and be on a karaoke site . anyone who is jealous that they would have to be alongside and share an off key stroke victim who just had his day made because a group of gold and blue members put him in the limelight and gave him some self worth for just a little while .

or the little elderly lady who just had come home from a cancer treatment who got a smile from someone putting her in the hall of fame and let her know someone cared and loved her enough to go to that trouble . this site is for everyday folks who love to sing no matter if there an embaressement to folks who think that only talented people should be in the hall of fame . take them away and see how long this site lasts . when this site starts to cater to just the talented singers then this site will lose more then it gains

.and if the shoe fits then that would be the names

I'm sorry but I take offense at your targeting talented or trained individuals. This site is for everyone who enjoys singing regardless of what level of talent they possess. Of course the HOF should reflect that and have performances we enjoy - whether due to talent and skill, or because they made us laugh or cry, or because we want to support a friend or loved one. All should be welcome, and not point the finger at the other saying that they don't belong.

works both ways i took offence at targeting the blue members and the folks who are constantly called hall of fakes and hall of shame because they sing off key . i didnt say anyone who is talented shouldnt be in there nor should anyone say that its for pros only . and for the record i didnt mention anyones names so i dont know why anyone who considers themselves talented would repspond in such a manner . did i say a talented singer shouldnt be in there ? no but what i did say is why all the fuss of sharing the hall with everyone . if a person thinks there more talented then the average singer here by all means give them a place and maybe they will then quit caling the great folks on the hof names like fakes and shame and embaressing that was my whole point . and the fact that now one more perk has been taken away from my blue friends

I thought about that, since we also have 3 computers but in this household,I am the only one addicted to SS lol. But yes, that would be unfair but I was only trying to find another way so that Blues would not lose their 10 nominations. Either way, Per already said they tried that idea and they could not get it to work. So my suggestion is moot anyways LOL :)

So we're saying gold get 50 nominations that do not expire..and once we reach the 50 mark we can no longer nominate people. If this is the case I do not like it at all. I'm a member here for going on two years now and in that time have come across many who I feel are worthy of HOF..Locking me at the 50 would later prevent me the opportunity to vote for someone who I felt was worthy and should be there. I'd end up wanting to campaign for that person to be there..which is something I've never done before.

The more I think about it..I really wish we would just do away with the HOF altogether. To me it kinda goes against that 'spirit of singsnap'. We're all here to enjoy the singing and music...and really shouldn't be singling out people.

Looks to me like this is the only way to go (gold only voting) . I support both changes. I really would rather a nomination I made stay until I decide to change it.

The few who have spent so much time cheating the HOF system are pretty smart and can change an IP address so the only way is to make it gold only so they would have to pay an extra $12 each for the extra votes..

It varies depending on the amount of nominations, we simply list the 1,000 recordings with the most nominations.

I haven't checked what it takes to get to page 50 right now but 3 sounds like a good guess.
