Posted by TracyBGOLD on May 20, 2008 at 6:01 PM

This challenge is open to all. It runs until Tuesday May 27 at 6PM EDT. Its purpose is to give people a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved. Everyone who participates is a winner.

PLEASE READ THESE GUIDELINES AND THE THEME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING

1. Post ONE OR TWO songs that fit the theme. You may post a THIRD one on or after Thursday. You may post a FOURTH song on or after Saturday.

Your song can be a new song or one that was already recorded.

**2. For EACH song you post, listen to at least SIX other people's songs and leave feedback. That means, if you post 2 songs you should listen to 12 others over the course of the 7 days of the challenge, a little less than 2 a day. If you post 3 songs, listen to 18 others and so on. You may, of course, listen to more if you choose.

Listening is the most important part of this challenge. Supporting and experiencing others is what it's about.

3. We prefer to listen to the whole song. Try not to listen to the same people every day. Give new people a chance as well.

4. Please do not post glitter or large graphics as feedback or in the thread.

5. You don't need to post a song to listen but you need to listen if you post a song. It's best to post earlier in the challenge. But you can post up until the end. Just be aware that the closing hours of the challenge are better suited to listening than trying to squeeze in a last minute post.

6. Try to avoid making multiple posts in a row by going back and editing your posts if you left something out. You have 30 minutes after you post to add to or correct your post by hitting the EDIT button.

Please visit our HOME PAGE for a great deal of useful information by clicking the link below. You will find answers to your many questions, including tips about how to post links and how to edit your posts, our FAQ, our chat room entrance, live recordings from our chat room and our birthday calendar.

Everyone's A Winner Challenge Home Page and Chat Room Entrance

New challenge themes are announced every Tuesday at 6PM EDT.

Thursday beginning at 7PM EDT (4PM PDT/11P GMT)
Friday at 6PM EDT (3PM PDT/10PM GMT) and at 11 or 12M EST (8 or 9PM PDT/4 or 4AM GMT)
Saturday around 8:30PM EDT (5:30PM PDT/12:30AM GMT)
Sunday afternoon starting at 1PM EDT (10AM PDT/5PM GMT)
EDT=Eastern Daylight Time PDT=Pacific Daylight Time GMT=Greenwich Mean Time

But you are welcome in there at any time as long as you follow the guidelines. If you want to organize a gathering at other times, you can invite others to meet you with PMs or by mentioning it in the challenge thread.

To get into the chat room, use the login at the bottom of the HOME PAGE (see link above). If you've not been to the chat room before or if you need to brush up on the guidelines and how it works, please read item # 11 before entering.

The theme of this challenge is Swingin' 60s!! Sing a song (preferably a pop/rock song from the mid to late 1960s) from the 1960s!

I've often thought I should have been born about 15 years earlier and in England. I love movies and music from the mid 60s--I love the fashions and pop culture from that era. Yes, it's sad that the Beatles and Rolling Stones songs are gone from here, but we'll make do!

Here are a couple of fun clips that evoke what I'm talking about:

60's Fashion
Smashing Time
And here's a Wikipedia entry about Swinging London
Have fun you little mods and rockers!

I'll be out for awhile--we have to use a restaurant gift certificate before it expires tomorrow, which is a good thing, because it's often like pulling teeth to get a certain someone to go anywhere with me. I'll catch up with you folks later!

Here's my first post--some of you have already heard it, so by all means, save your listening time for someone else! This is probably my favorite solo recording I've done here.

Don't Sleep in the Subway, a Petula Clark song from 1967.

:-) Tracy... what can I say, I was born 1960, and in England ... some girls have all the luck eh? Trouble is I was a bit too young to appreciate it! 1966 I started to see some of it, musically, but still, a bit too young, especially for the fashion LOL. To be honest with you I was more wistful of the long floaty dresses and flowers in ya hair days... which came a little later... I must get my Jackie magazines out with Blackfoot Sue, Peter, Paul and Mary, Alice Cooper, David Cassidy (LOL) Bay City Rollers (what?) earlier, earlier. I never pulled the posters out and they remain intact... all 500 of them from 1971 onwards. Yeah late.

Going to enjoy this one :-) Back later with a song!

Fashion if I remember rightly was Mary Quant plastic colourful macs, mini skirts and um, the invention of the disposable paper undies LOL!

Here you go: I Couldn't Live Without Your Love - Petula Clark

Chances are Petula's songs will be gone with the next lic raid... ;D Some of you have already heard so don't feel you have to listen again, but thank you for your time...

OK. This one's gonna be so much fun.

But, believe it or not I don't have a great many songs that fit this category. So I had to go dig this one out of mothballs. It was private but now it's public again. Revel in all those old comments and my old mic.

For my first selection, this is Come Back When You Grow Up by Bobby Vee. This song was #3 on Billboard in 1967. This is one of the songs that Cathy and I did on Sunday night; the only one we did 'right' the whole way through. Although I knew she would be okay with it, I actually asked permission :>

Wonderful theme, Tracy! I love the 60s!

Off the topic, I had a bad day today. It was the type of day where I wished I had stayed in bed. So much seemed to go wrong. Anyway, I was giving myself a pity party when I come home to find out that a Singsnapper friend of mine is going to lose her mother (she had a massive heart attack and won't make it).

Her name is RedSatinDoll
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/member/redsatindoll

It kind of put things in perspective for me. I should just be thankful I am alive and safe and at home.

Sorry to get off the topic, but my heart is aching for this woman.

I had to hjurry and grab this one before someone else got it. I laughed when I noticed that last summer in July in one of the challenges, Bruce submitted Mellow Yellow and I submitted Sunshine Superman. LOLOL

I wanted to re-record this one as I have better sound than I did then.

Getting the flavor of the Donovan sound is hard. I tried to get it by singing the melody with myself. Still haven't captured it to my satisfactlion, but that means I have a neat musical goal to reach eventually so it's all good.

Recorded 1966 at Abbey Road Studios
