Whiskey is just singin' my heart out today!!
I'm not much into it. I hate decorating just to take it down again, spending money on things and cards for people I don't see or talk to much during the year. If I want or need something I'll go buy it or save up for it. I don't need it gift wrapped either. I am happy for those of you who enjoy the holidays but I really don't. Have a great season!!

I love it. I love to decorate every single room in my house and as much of the outside of my house as I can without it looking tacky (okay, so the husband does most of the outside).
I love driving around looking at lights with my family. I love singing and hearing Christmas carols, I love seeing snow come down as I sit with friends by a fire and I love sitting in the darkened living room with just my tree lights on.
I love setting up the presents for my kids to find Christmas morning and their excitement when they see them. Even better, I LOVE the excitement on my kids faces when they present me with a present they picked out all by themselves. They are so proud and full of the spirit of giving.
I love going to church on Church on Christmas Eve and hearing the story of Christ and reconnecting to the REAL meaning of the season.
And I love when they turn off all the lights and we sing Silent Night accapela with just candlelight. It leaves me with an incredible sense of peace.

Deb, Christmas gives me a peace I cannot completely describe. I can listen to Christmas music year around. In fact I have a cd from Celtic Woman that I get out from time to time. It is the loving and giving spirit of Christmas that I adore.

Tho I have to say, I do not feel much spirit in the stores around Christmas time. I avoid them like the plague! I will not go anywhere near a retail store the day after Thanksgiving or any of the other big "sale" (that word is a joke) days. If I do have to shop retail (I buy online as much as possible), I make a huge effort to smile at everyone, to be as patient as is humanly possible and to always be nice to the clerks. Their job sucks that time of year. Not much spirit in parking lots either. The commercialism of it sickens me. That is not Christmas.
Working in retail did have that effect on me Cherie. I was so tired of the long work hours and the Christmas spirit just wasn't there for me. I had to step away from retail to regain that feeling again.
Which reminds me, I need to go online and find some Crimson Tide gifts for my Canadian relatives :)))
December holidays are one of the few times of the year I get to see my mother. For that reason alone, I do like the season but other than that, I would not be the least bit unhappy to see it erased from the calendar.
I used to be so sad at Christmas time when I was single and far ways from my family. My dad would always make sure I got home but it would be around New Years.
Now with two children, it is so much fun and even sweeter this year, I will get to spend it with my sister and nieces and nephew for the first time..she just moved here this summer.
The shopping, I could do with out...I find alot of people are really nasty always bumping into you, giving dirty looks, not holding doors, fighting over merchandise. Also the crazy winter drivers I could do without especially in the season of Christmas when everyone is in a hurry to get to the red light...oh no wait that happens everyday lol
shandakr today is definitely a better day... phew.
I don't really, to be honest. The idea of celebrating the birth of Christ has turned into a commercialized free for all and that saddens me to no end. I do, however, try to get into the spirit each year as best I can.... if for nothing else than for my young son's sake.
Yes, the people out there trying to take Christ out of Christmas is truly sad. So I believe it's up to all of us who believe to keep the Spirit of the "true" meaning of Christmas.

I quit watching t.v. Guess when that was? A year ago around this time. The Christmas selling commercials almost sent me around the bend. Call me an ostrich with my head in the sand but I absolutely REFUSE to watch/listen to all that crap. 'Gifts' should be given from the heart to those close to us all year 'round... that, to me, is the spirit Christ wishes for us to follow. I would think, were Christ alive and among us, HE would be appalled. Ha... guess I have strong views on this, eh? It doesn't help I'm in a poor mood atm. :/

I understand where you are coming from Shanda.
For me, it's things like that are "taking" away the true meaning of Christmas and I refuse to let that happen.
We who believe in Christ should celebrate his Birth and YES, be kind and giving year round.
That said, I still love the music, the movies, the trees, the lighted yards, the family gatherings and such.

I love Christmas, simply because of the joy that is seen on children's faces. If it snows thats a bonus.and homemade peanut brittle!!!!When I was a kid,Christmas seemed a lot different in stores and in people in general. The toy store was a fascinating place, new toys that were never available til the Christmas season would be displayed. Now we go to the same old walmart or kmart or other retail outlet to buy the same old toys that are on the shelf year round. But the joy in the children's eyes on Christmas morning hasn't changed. : )and that is why I love Christmas.

I lived in Illinois for many years. Loved the snow, cold, all the lights of Christmas in the Chicago suburbs. Most of all I liked being laid back in my recliner, staring at the Christmas tree in a chocolate stupor while listening to Bing Crosby croon "White Christmas".
Now, I'm in a warm Southern state. A little snow about once a year that melts in about 1 day. But, I still put up the tree, listen to Bing and a host of others, and get an overwelming feeling deep within that I'm just a heartbeat from my yesteryear childhood.

I am with peachygurl on this...I remember my last jolly Christmas being when I was maybe 7...when the whole family still gathered at my Grandmother's.
Now it brings loads of stress.
I guess it depends who you are with. That could make all the difference in the world.
'Time' could change everything and make it a happy season again.
