GUIDELINES:

We understand everyone records all sorts of music for fun, but for the purposes of this competition stick with works that will prove themselves through you as memorable, believable performances.

It is understandable to disagree with a bad review, especially when a performance was considered competition-worthy.
It is the nature of the beast that in competition there must be winners AND losers. It is also the nature of professionally-scored competitions to be much more critical of performances.
Please do not take any scores/comments personally as we will not publish any results publicly. If the critique you receive, whether you feel it's representative or not, is or becomes a problem please simply withdraw knowing that we conduct ourselves professionally and expect likewise.

SCORING
In collegiate competition, scoring is referred to as "Divisions."
1st Division = Superior
2nd Division = Excellent
3rd Division = Good
4th Division = Fair
5th Division = Poor

It is pre-conceived in collegiate competition that performances will be well-executed and therefore Divisions 1 through 4 are considered different levels of good scores.
Note that only a 5th Division is considered a bad score.

JUDGING
Each judge will screen each performance only once (to simulate a live performance.)
Judges will score on the following (5) categories:
1.) Impression - Did performer convey the piece of work or merely sing the words to a song?
2.) Disposition - Attitude of performer versus work's intentions.
3.) VoiceSmart - Choosing works that coexist well with performer's voice.
4.) Song Choice - Includes applicability & choosing works that inherently hold an audience's attention.
5.) Technical Accuracy - Difficulty, pitch, dynamics, cues

REPORTING
Each judge will award each category a 1st to 5th Division, ending up with (5) scores for each performance.
These are then averaged from all the judges and kept on a consensus scorecard.
The decimal places for each are removed from the Division rating for each category.
It is then this integer score that is reported when reports are given.
For eliminations purposes, the (5) categories' real (including decimal) Division scores are averaged and performers sorted.

ELIMINATIONS
Eliminations will be made based on a real score and therefore will vary in quantity from everyone moving on to eliminating (theoretically) everyone but the "Top Five."
As in collegiate scoring, public knowledge of eliminations & scoring will stop at the "Top 5."

TOP 5 SHOW
One final round will be executed as "The Show" involving only the "Top 5."
In collegiate competition & here, all five of the participants in the "Top 5" show are considered the winner (equally) & "The Show" is presented as a final concert rather than another round.
After "The Show", the "Top 5" will be privately given the consensus scores for all five of the "Top 5" and therefore the ranking from 1 through 5.
It is then the sole discretion of the the individuals in the "Top 5" to reveal or not reveal their position in the "Top 5"

A key change isn't anything to do with changing the entire key of the piece (like you can with gold)

Some songs, especially after the bridge to make it more intense will put the chorus up until the end usually higher up than the rest of the song. That's a key change.

So I think they want us to find a song that does that.

No, they don't all state the key changes in them when you pull the song up. I looked at several, and the songs starts without even saying what (the main) key is.

Ya gotta research or ask around.

Most of them do though. You can tell just by thinking of a song if it has a key change in it.
If you remember the entire pitch of the song changing (usually at the end) it is most likely because of a key change.
Most examples of key change will be the final chorus going up one whole step.
The most common example is going from the key of "E" to "F#", due to the ease of playing music on stringed instruments in the key of "E".

The manufacturers Sound Choice and ChartBuster both specify the key in which the song begins, as well as any and all key changes encountered in the duration of the song. However, Legends and Sunfly do not specify either for their songs.
